Illuminaria [LitRPG Fantasy Healer Adventure]
Community Rating
Description
What if you were given another chance? Another life? What would you do with it? Meet Joe. When Joe died, he did not expect a screen to appear inviting him to join the world of Illuminaria. By accepting, he joins a fantasy RPG-like world, with stats, skills, monsters, and quests. While this is a progression LitRPG tale, it focuses far more on plot than progression. It is written to read more like a cozy first person D&D game than a system-driven race to phenomenal cosmic power. I released a previous version of this story a while ago. This version has many of the same plot points but it has been reworked. Expected:•A slow-burn progression system. The MC takes a while to find his footing•A healer-focused MC who grows into a chimeric being•Injury and disease play a large part in this story•Lots of world-building•Chapter lengths: 1500 - 2000 words Release Schedule:Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays

- Djtiger901Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0With many other stories it feels like set events are happening and the progression is forced, or skills are given for that specific advancement (ie: getting a 'block pincer' skill and fighting a crab). In this, however, the advancement feels very natural. The pacing feels like it's a stream: fast paced at some points, but slow and meandering at others.Overall, really enjoyable!
- Blind LibrarianRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is one of my recommendations for light Litrpg fans who want a vivid and unique world building that has depth and history.
Most progression novels treat the world as a scene created from a template just for the MC to shine, vanquish enemies and impress allies and of course find that cheat that eventually will make them overpowered.
Well, not this one. The races, their gods, myths and customs are meticulously crafted by the author independently from the MC, with him being just an other interesting thread in a great tapestry that you have no clue how fast and wide will unravel at the beginning.
MC has a golden heart, cares genuinely for others and of course he starts hopelessly clueless about almost everything around him but he is intelligent, willing to listen and learns fast.
The characters are so alive. As you progress you find yourself caring about them, you realise they have their own gravity and role to play no less interesting than that of the MC’s. They don’t feel like stereotypes placed there just to support him especially in the second part of the story.
Sure there are other novels that try the same but either they end up creating an over complicated world and you find yourself lost in details, or too alien to relate.
I think the author nailed it. The action, progression, exploration and even community dynamics you’ll find in this one is balanced and will take you to a trippy but realistic at the same time journey you’re hardly going to forget soon.
All and all solid 5 stars material for me. - AzrielLifeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I cannot recommend Illuminaria enough for anyone looking for a truly unforgettable reading experience. From the very first page, the story grabs your attention and doesn’t let go. It’s a perfect blend of immersive storytelling, complex characters, and a plot that continuously surprises and delights. What makes this story so special is its ability to explore Healing in such a unique and thought-provoking way, providing new insights and perspectives that stay with you long after you've finished.
The author’s writing style is both elegant and accessible, allowing readers to easily connect with the characters while still delivering moments of depth and reflection. The pacing of the story is superb – it never feels rushed or too slow, and each chapter builds on the last in a way that keeps you wanting more. The character development is exceptional, making each individual in the story feel fully realized and impactful to the overall narrative.
Whether you enjoy fantasy, drama, or stories with profound emotional depth, Illuminaria has something for everyone. It’s one of those rare books that not only entertains but also challenges your thoughts on LitRPG's. If you're looking for a story that leaves a lasting impression, this is a must-read! - Catz SRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have to say, I was a little off put at the beginning of the book when he first entered the world. Maybe it could have been a bit more informative. I say stick with it if even just for the fight scenes. Those were well written and it drew me in again.
- Cultured CritiqueRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story stands out through both its well-balanced narrative and the unusually engaging perspective from which it is told. It follows the main character much like a classic tabletop RPG campaign follows a player character, giving the novel a distinctive pace that feels driven by possibility and chance. Much like a good campaign, you never quite know how events will unfold—but that uncertainty is part of the charm. Every mishap, friendship, and rivalry develops organically and feels believable, as if you were listening to a DM recounting a favorite adventure shared with a trusted group of players.
TL;DR: If you want to experience a genuine TTRPG-style adventure without rolling dice or reading a CYOA book—and you’re looking for a unique, wholesome story with a realistic and grounded level of action—this is absolutely worth your time.
The pacing is well judged, allowing sufficient space between major decisions, dangerous encounters, and meaningful character moments. This breathing room lets the reader fully immerse themselves in the world, its people, and its possibilities, fostering the sense that yes, I could make choices like this—without relying on divine intervention or an overly special advantage. The slice-of-life chapters provide natural pauses to process changes in scenery, direction, and character development. This makes the protagonist’s gradual loss of human likeness—beginning with race and later appearance—feel believable and even reassuring. Importantly, the character never loses their humanity, presenting transformation as something positive, or even desirable, rather than defaulting to the tired tropes of resistance and self-loathing. The story emphasizes who you are over what you are, which is both refreshing and meaningful.
The writing is clean and easy to read, with solid grammar and no noticeable typos or errors that detract from the experience.
While the story has its rough spots likely due to its roots in a TTRPG-style framework, it quickly find - DGPRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Really solid and enjoyable story. I love the system both in persona and in actual mechanics, story is well written and characters are likable and it’s a thoughtful read. I really hope the author keeps growing the world and the overall story. This is a good long haul read and I would love an ongoing read to come back to as it grows.
- BahhhbRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Apparently this is a rewrite of the authors previous work. If so, good job. World feels consistent and fleshed out, characters are believable. Plot makes sense. LitRPG elements appropriately integrated. Look forward to continuing to read more.
Apparently I need more words.
mc is a cancer patient given a second chance. It works pretty well, not like he suddenly has full medical knowledge, and seems to behave like a long term care patient would. - DatateqRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really enjoyed book 1. It was well written and fast paced. I particularly liked the skill/stat system and the way you balanced that. Most of the encounters were thoughtfully balanced and the MC’s progression made sense. I thought the final battle, while epic, gave an exceptionally powerful boost. Time will tell if that makes the MC too powerful. I am really looking forward to book 2. Thank you for sharing your time and creativity.
- Devaint-dreamerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The original was a great fun read, this is pretty much the same story, with a few minor tweaks and a bit of cleaning up in Grammer and writing style, all round well worth your time, if you like an adventure story and interesting characters this is one for you.
- EnkeydoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Nicely done slice of life with a wholesome feeling that really satisfies. The main character is believable and human he is smart but he has hangups like regular person. That can be frustrating in a good way for the reader. But what I really like is that he does a healer right. If your healing skills are up to snuff, and you got lots of mana, you can tank hits all day. A lot of authors don't or won't do that. It's refreshing to see it done here.
