Description
When the day of the apocalypse comes, Ashtoreth betrays Hell to fight for humanity. After all, she never fit in with the other archfiends. She was always too optimistic, too energetic, too...nice. She was supposed to study humanity to help her learn to destroy it. Instead, she fell in love with it. She knows that Earth is where she really belongs. But as she tears her way through the tutorial, recruiting allies to her cause, she quickly realizes something strange: the humans don’t trust her. Sure, her main ability is[Consume Heart]. But that doesn’t make her evil—it just means that every enemy drops an extra health potion! Yes, her[Vampiric Archfiend]race and[Bloodfire Annihilator]classsounda little intimidating, but surely even the purehearted can agree thatsomethings should be purged by fire! And[Demonic Summoning]can’t be all that evil if the ancient demonic entity that you summon takes the form of a cute, sassy cat! It may take her a little work, but Ashtoreth is optimistic: eventually, the humans will see that she’s here to help. After all, she has an important secret to tell them: Hell is afraid of humanity.

They're not one dimensional, and even when they’re annoying, you know it’s going somewhere. It doesn’t disappoint on the development, though, there are going to be obvious picks for favorites and most despised.
Ashtoreth is obviously #1, But Frost is a wonderful character as well, probably my favorite supporting character.
Even if some characters were obviously made with specific intentions in mind, like Hunter’s introduction basically being an elaborate chapter long joke, the characters that stay evolve and grow on you quickly.
There’s a lot of stories that don’t give their supporting characters arcs or personalities, they’ll just write them in like they’re filling roles in an RPG party, and that’s what the character is for the whole story.
None of that here. No skipping through chapters trying to get to the main character, no skipping past pointless copy paste fights to get to character moments and level ups.
It’s engaging and interesting the whole way through. At no point did I feel like I was being dragged along by the sunk cost fallacy, just wanting it to get to the point.
Side note, I don’t think the pits of sorrow were an adequately terrible place for Dazel. If I had a choice, I might put him in the pits of.. I don’t know, testicular torsion, maybe? Point is, he deserves worse. That’s a wonderful place to leave this one! - DecibelleMomRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Funny and creative. The character is unique, the story draws you in. Successfully shows a character who has been studying humanity but just does not quite get it. Like the video game aspects. The pacing is good so far with the action coming fast and furious. Clearly a lot of thought went into the character motivations. I cannot wait to see what is coming next.
- ElvenkindRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Really enjoyable so far (chapter 23) peppy, happy, optimistic, earth-loving Archfiend with her huge sword and cute bag of hearts out to save humanity.
I like the banter and writing style so far. The protagonists character is interesting and witty along with her sidekick.
She's competent, smart and enjoys ripping the hearts out her enemies and eating them. What's not to like. - BoptodatopRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Hear ye hear ye, I come on important business, otherwise known as singing the good praises of this absolute BANGER.
Few stories can strike a chord with me as this one has within the short span of like, uh, give or take a hundred pages idk I wasn't really paying attention time was flying by pretty quickly while reading it give me a break okay it's difficult to gauge how long it is when you're having fun with it SHEESH!
But to trim down the fat of that yap, Humanity's #1 Fan is straight fire, that might just be from hell, cause it burns hotter than most anything else. The comedy value of this story mustn't be underestimated. I will now illustrate my point through words, starting with the
Style.
It is usually difficult to properly describe the style of a story, and whilst you may believe that this is me leading this into saying that it's easy to say this time around, haha, no, it's so much more difficult than usual! And that's not because I have anything bad to say about it, no. This is like, my IDEAL, romanticized portrayal of a comedy third person story. And that's mostly just because the dialogue that I am reading feels, so very real.
There are never any glaring issues brought on by how the story is written, everything flows into each other, dialogue springs forth as if from a font, and the proverbial water is always pure, as if drawn from a heavenly fount. Which is ironic, given the circumstances. Let's take a look at those now, shall we?
Story.
Starting right off at chapter one so as to not drop any spoilers, I just have a few things to say. First off, having a system descent wherein the villains throw their own minions into the tutorial as players IN the tutorial is incredibly unique and I've never seen that premise before, but I LOVE IT either way holy moly I need more.
Secondly, PUTTING ANOTHER TWIST on that formula being that the MC is a PART of that evil invasion EXCEPT THEY'RE ACTUALLY NOT EVIL and that they want to SIDE WITH THE HUMANS is just, crazy? I don - Horatio Von BeckerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I started this expecting it to be popcorn fiction, but while it islargelythat, it's also got some pretty solid character work lurking in there! The character-focus chapters might only be a twentieth of the story by wordcount, but some of them are really top-notch. And while the action may be a little cheesy if you zoom out, I found it engaging and fun on its own terms. There's also clearly been a fair bit of thought put into the worldbuilding, both in system design and geopolitics. Probably nothingrevolutionaryif you're more familiar with system apocalypse stories* than I am, but it feels fairly cohesive, and it goes some places I haven't seen before.*It lacks the "all technology is destroyed or paywalled, causing instant societal breakdown" aspect, which I appreciate, but Iampretty sure it's in the System Apocalypsegenre-as-in-cultural-dialogue.Grammar note: There are usually one to five typos per chapter in the later chapters, but I was enjoying it enough by that point that it wasn't a problem.Overall: This may be mostly popcorn, but it's one of the best popcorn fics I've ever read. If you're in the mood for that, give it a shot!
- LackyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'd seen the story advertised a few times and always thought it looked like it wasn't for me. I decided to give the story a shot anyway and my first impressions couldn't have been more wrong. If you're considering reading but aren't sure about it I'd highly recommend trying it.One of the only stories I've read on here to make me laugh, genuinely funny characters that have the depth and complexity to empathise with. The story can be both light hearted and dark at times with characters that try to hide that pain with comedy, as the chapters go on you get more hints about what is hidden.I can't wait to see how the main character and their familiar stories develop.
- LazyEldritchHorror'sRizzRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's a really funny and interesting story, with lots of world building and we can understand how Ashtoreth thinks. It's also cool seeing things that I view as irrelevant being so important to her.word count word count word count word count word count word count word count word count
- MordicantRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Love the story! While the strength progression arc has been done before, the relentless bubbliness and positivity of our archfiend MC is a joy in a world full of hellscapes and demons with fantastic combat and banter. Oh, and all the chapter titles are 🔥🔥🔥
STORY
We mostly bounce between high octane, well thought out action scenes and excellent jokes from the party, occasionally interspersed with deeper segments involving the mental states of the characters experiencing an apocalypse, with a splash of political analysis on the side.
STYLE
This is my favorite aspect of the story, and saw me read the (currently available) 128 chapters in the space of about a day. Dialogue is snappy, landscapes are vivid, and while there's insert a whole lot of truly new ground being tread, most aspects of the fiction have fresh enough takes that you will either forget about it or not care.
GRAMMAR
My weakest rating and really only complaint. The author is releasing chapters at a truly prodigious and seemingly unsustainable rate, and occasionally the grammar suffers. Most of the time everything is well written, but occasionally there is a word or bit of punctuation just missing, and at one point a paragraph is repeated with slightly different wording where one of the paragraphs was clearly meant to be deleted. While it takes away from the story a little bit, it's not bothersome enough for me to knock down from 5 stars overall.
CHARACTERS
Our MC is well fleshed out, with motivations, history, personality, secrets, and growth. Her main foil is much the same. Secondary characters somewhat less so, but we still have introspective growth moments with them, they stay true to their natures, and there are even distinct dialogue patterns and word choices for each major character. - NafamericRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I’ve left a lot of reviews before, but this one really stood out to me because I love the concept behind it. The female MC (which is always one of my favorite kinds of protagonists) breaks the archetype of her species in such a compelling way. What I especially appreciate is that, even though she stands on the side of humanity, she never stops being true to her origins. Her thoughts, instincts, and methods are still shaped by the hell that birthed her — and I love that contrast. It makes her more relatable in a dark, almost uncomfortable way that really works.
One thing I admire is how consistent her character arc feels. There are no sudden, jarring personality flips; her development is organic from start to finish.
That said, I think some of the supporting cast could use more depth. Hunter has been given solid history and character, and I enjoy him a lot, but I’d love to see more of the other party members’ backstories explored in the same way.
As for the LitRPG progression — yes, it uses familiar mechanics, but here the leveling feels earned. The pacing of her growth works, even if I do feel the MC leans on the OP side. Nothing has truly forced her into a corner or cost her dearly yet — even the “invincible” dragon fight got solved quickly by her support cast. It would be exciting to see her face something that pushes her to the edge.
On the technical side: the writing is smooth and easy to follow. I use Speechify and had no hiccups listening through it, which says a lot. Grammar isn’t something I’m picky about, and here it never got in the way of the story.
Overall, I’d rate this a solid 5/5. I’ve read/listened through chapters 1–150 and felt the pacing was excellent, aside from the fast-forward “tutorial montage” where the levels jump from 100 to 300 in only three chapters. Still, once the narrative lands back on Earth, the payoff is worth it.
My only lingering question is about the scenarios — there’s been no “heaven” scenario despite how cosmic the system feel - NaltharialRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's hard to write a review of a story that's propped up almost exclusively by characters and relationship dynamics, but Ashtoreth manages to grab our attention with an audacious proposition - what if internet brainrot did something good for a change? Truly inspiring and, for us, unimaginable.
What holds us here and reading this story is the excellent dynamic between her and her sidekick(s) and the slow reveal of the story and mechanics through their interactions. The comedy is remniscent of a buddy cop movie with the enthusiastic youngster and the cynical detective, both of which are well established and intriguing characters. They both have complex backgrounds that we slowly uncover as we follow their journey through Hell's invasion of Earth.
The grammar and style flow out of the comedic format, which somewhat restricts the breadth of expressions used, since a comedy is necessarily snippy in execution, so don't expect long prosaic narratives. But as a vehicle for this story, it works.
The one downside is that the plot is fairly straightforward and we only get glimpses at the wider framing, which is fine and proper for a character piece story, but it might turn off some people who are into LitRPGs for worldbuilding.
