I Got Reincarnated As A Goat In A Dark Fantasy World!

Description

I'm tired of emotional, character driven stories.

This will be my escape from trying to write narrative nuances, peculiar plots and stellar storytelling.

This story is simple! It's about a guy, who dies, gets reincarnated as a goat and must survive on a planet that is suffering from the aftermath of a cataclysmic war.

... now that I think about it, this may not be as simple as it seems. Oh well.

I'll be uploading chapters whenever I feel like it!!!

What to expect:

÷A vast fantasy world full of deep lore and colorful characters which vary from small goats, powerful knights that can flatten mountains and dark, unknowable gods!

÷Our protagonist will go from eating grass (as goats do) to playing a metaphorical game of chess with beings that can destroy entire worlds with the snaps of their fingers!

÷Epic, gory battles which will determine the fates of thousands!

÷Layers, upon layers of lore to dig through all which connects to story threads that run all throughout the story!

÷ A F*CKING GOAT!!!

UPDATE- Here's a more serious synopsis since I'm actually quite invested in the story now:

The story is about Raily. A normal, although rather nihilistic guy who dies and gets accidentally reincarnated into the body of a goat. The world he finds himself in is called Edenton and its a world that's struggling to heal from the wounds of a Great War. Raily, or Katsíki as he's known in Edenton, must abandon his old nihilistic ways to help those he can. On his journey, he will meet a colorful cast of characters. One of which is Yna. A woman with a mysterious past. Perhaps a dark secret is hidden behind her golden gaze.

UPDATE FOR THE SECOND ARC: [SPOILERS AHEAD!]

With some hard work and a lot of determination, Katsíki and Yna have made some allies in the Dark Expanse. However, their allegiance will soon be tested. Whispers of a coming war travel with the wind. Is Katsíki ready to witness what might very well be a repeat of the Great War? One where the skies blacken and the rivers run with blood... find out more in the [Black Summer Arc]!!!!!!

UPDATE FOR THE THIRD ARC:

War has come for the Expanse and Katsíki must lead his allies against an army led by demigods and their lord, the Golden Prince.

Is history doomed to repeat itself? Is there a way for Katsíki and his allies to win against an army that brought down the very dragons themselves and does this war mark the beginning of a new age?

Find out in [Defending Hope Arc]!!!!!!!

UPDATE FOR THE FOURTH ARC:

The border between Lanceberg and the Expanse has turned into a war zone. Countless soldiers die every day. Katsíki and Caligo have bound themselves, by oath, not interfere meaning the victor of this war will not be decided by godly intervention, but by the blood and steel of ordinary mortals.

Expect this and more in [The Kindling War Arc]!!!!!!

Let me preface this by saying that this has enormous potential. I enjoyed every moment of the story.
With that being said, let us begin:
STYLE SCORE 5/5: The writing style is a unique set of one line interactions between characters and one another, their environment, and even what seems to be a rogue AI. While it took some time to get used to, this was definitely NOT a bad thing and I found myself liking it very much, different as it was. You will not find very many full paragraphs in this fiction.
STORY SCORE 4.5/5: The story is well drafted, and although I cant see a discernable goal for the MG (Main Goat) as of yet, I can definitely see it build towards that point. I am seriously enjoying every moment of it.
GRAMMAR SCORE 5/5: Flawless victory. I actually went back and actively looked for any. Couldnt find them so I gave up.
CHARACTER SCORE 4/5: The characters were great. The idea of them was fantastic. The implementation and development was a bit flat for me. Each character has this opportunity to be full of rich lore, deep background, or a comic sink (such as the MG). The writer doesn't take full advantage of this however, even if he does have some zippy one liners.
OVERALL SCORE 5/5: This is a GREAT fiction, unique writing style included. The only detracting factors were the under-developed characters. There is simply so much potential for them there. However I definitely think that this fiction is worth the 5 star rating overall. Keep up the awesome work!

Putting aside the first four chapters which are a glimpse into later, darker parts of the narrative, the story starts out like any other Isekai with a wide eyed protagonist with big goals, but he is forced to accept the rules of his new world as every attempt at anything he tries is met with resistance and even failure at times.
The story is a slow paced, deep dive into a new world and each new chapter zooms out, revealing more details about the world.
The characters are numerous and varied. Also, there is a complete lack of the typical Isekai tropes, so no Demon Lords or rebellious princesses or whatnot. Just people who inhabit a fractured world trying to further their own ambitions.
Also, to say that this world is vast would be an understatement and there are several factions all with their own histories and cultures. Their fates all intertwine as certain characters try to further their own goals.
The last thing I'd like to note is the writing style... it's meh. It gets the job done. The prose won't knock your socks off, but its definitely solid enough to carry the story along. Overall one of the best book ive read

I like this work, it is well written, the story flows.
The world seems vast and expansive with many differing cultures and viewpoints.
There are some spelling mistakes but not enough to make the story confusing and easily fixed.
I think the writing style has a good balance between comedy and the more serious aspects of the story.
The characters are interesting although I expect there will be more character development to change the protagonist into the beast he was in the first few chapters.
The story does not feel rushed and I find myself getting invested into knowing what will happen next. It is a great look at the concept of morality and applying earth logic and societal norms to a non-earth society.
If you like otherworldly reincarnation stories read this.
I do however wish there were some more plot twists but since I'm only early on into the story I'm probably just not far ahead to see them yet.
I look forward to continuing to read this work and hope it lasts until the end. It seems like there is far more to this novel that I am yet to discover.
I also hope the interraction between magic and the world gets explained further in bits and pieces so as not to overload the reader with a wall of information. So far this hasn't been the case.
Finally the first few chapters are certainly quite different from those proceeding it and it gives a taste of things to come, a smart move by the author to gain early interest in the story.

My initial reaction to this concept was that it would either a) not work at all, b) be incredibly affected and overwrought. Neither turned out to be true. Benjamin's prose is very good as his worldbuilding. This enables the reader to stay sincerely engaged as the story plays out. Too often, I think, writers try to do something highly experimental or eccentric without mastering basic storytelling and writing techniques. This work is an excellent example of how strong fundamentals provide a baseline to expirement succesfully.

I Got Reincarnated as a Goat in a Dark Fantasy World! is about exactly what it says on the tin. However, as it gets deeper into this strange and quirky situation our protagonist Katsíki finds himself in, it quickly reveals its hidden layers and builds much fascination, so much so that it almost feels like a disservice to review it so early for a swap. That said, let's dive in!
    Style
Solid first person narration. It isn't entirely to my taste for the story to be made mostly of singular sentences that get their own paragraph breaks, but it didn't detract from the reading experience very much. Overall, solid and works well with its POV.
    Story
This is just about my favorite part so far. While a little slow to start, the first ten chapters are more than enough to grab your attention. I am fascinated by the history of the world from what's been mentioned. The history of relations between humanity, rendaro, and the dragons is very attention-grabbing, as well as the state of the world as a whole. I especially love the questions brough up, as they're exactly the kinds that make you incredibly curious about the world going forward, and they make me want to read further, more than anything else for sure.
    Grammar
This is the story's weakest point, so far, but it's far from a dealbreaker. There's a few misspellings and certain sentences feel as though they're missing important words. Would benefit very much from an editor or a few once-overs before or after publishing (whatever is most convenient) but it works well enough to convey what is being said.
    Character
Katsíki is an entertaining main character and a fun POV to take. I enjoy his inner ramblings and his more cautious nature at the beginning, as well as his ability to stay cool while also showing many moments of vulnerability. I really do look forward to seeing him grow, and I'm sure I will enjoy the development of the people around him as the story progresses as well. His and Yna's dynamic is very fun to read, and I hope

Don't let the silly name and concept fool you. If you're a fan of dark fantasy works such as Berserk, The Ticher, Prince of Thorns, etc. you'll be right at home here.
The setting is incredibly brutal, and despite the silly surface level setup, it's played very seriously. It'd be more accurate to call this a 'goat demon in another world' dark isekai.
However, the execution is simply sublime, and the author weaves a very compelling dark fantasy world with excellent fundamentals and technical writing/storytelling.
Using Midjourney to create uncanny goatman photos greatly enhances the effect of the chapters, and I would do the same if I were writing dark fantasy myself.

Review done after reading the initial chapters and the four optional ones:
    Little preview :
The story is about a man who lives his life without living it. He spends his days in boredom and disinterest until something happens that will change his life forever.
Very light style that fits well with the type of story the author wants to tell. It flows quickly and does not bore.Points to improve: often the fast pacing does not give enough space in the text to create the right atmosphere, or rather, to give full expression to the emotions that the story should convey at the moment. Obviously this is not always the case and in several places the author conveyed the atmosphere of the story well.
The characters are well depicted with a huge spectrum of emotions. Personally i appreciated the will of the author to show us some of the characters one read about. A point that the fast pacing has to improve yet is the dialogue between characters. They are interesting but some time feels rushed and risk to not be fully appreciated.
For the grammar part some errors but are uncommon and the author fix them if pointed out.
All in all the story, as the mc, is a peculiar one, in a positive way. Without making spoiler i can say it's a fresh idea and it's worth a shot, so i suggest to give it a go and start to enjoy the adventure of this little dark goat.

A man with barely any ambition or the will to live finds himself in a broken world full of magic and mystery... as a goat.
STYLE: Effective first-person storytelling with many spots of humor and sarcasm. The pacing is steady and the story is easy to follow and enjoy. The many one-line paragraphs were a bit of an itch to get used to, but it reads much better on a phone.
STORY: The world and magic system seems interesting and solid, though I have much more to read before I can say much. Having a cost and danger to a magic system always gives it more depth. The world is also set with an interesting history and power struggle.
GRAMMAR: Spelling and grammar are looking good. No real errors that I came across. Sometimes the writer will have the same word repeated quite a bit in a short space, which is the only nitpick that I have right now. Nice work!
CHARACTER: As for the MC, it sometimes leaves me questioning 'why?' he does or decides things, especially when compared to his human self that did not care about anything. I'm hoping to get an answer to this as I continue to enjoy the story. Other than that, the MC is fun and quirky and gives you a good laugh, especially around any grass.
OVERALL: A fun ride through the eyes of a powerful goat! I have much ground to cover if I look at the long list of chapters, but I am very much looking forward to it. Give this a read!
