Book 12 starts with chapter 883.Current schedule is Mon-Wed-Fri, USA timezone.
Jason wakes up in a mysterious world of magic and monsters. He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters, and that’s just the first day. He’s going to need courage, he’s going to need wit and he’s going to need some magic powers of his own. But first, he’s going to need pants.
Follow Jason as he makes a place for himself in a world that is strange, yet sometimes strangely familiar. He’ll meet crime lords and aristocrats, gods and monsters on his path from would-be victim to heroic adventurer. At least, he tries to be heroic. It’s hard to be good when all your powers are evil.
Please note: I am Australian and this story is written in Australian English, so there will be less of the letter Z and more of the letter U.

- ArkarcRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0rather than be shaped by the world around him I feel like the world is beginning to change because of his existence.
even the gods of the other world are talking notice, what unique about him isn’t his power or even being an ”outerworlder”, but his ideas and how he interacts with the world around him, he is the type of character that affects the mentality of the people around him and forces people to question everything even religion.
This is just a short review after reading all the chapters released so far by the time I posted this review.
i add to it later on when I feel like it lol - Ayela ArcanaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Once I met Jason Asano in Book 1, I couldn’t walk away from him. No, the pontificating didn’t bother me; I loved it!
I want to tell Mr. Shirt how grateful I am for his books. Firstly for how poignant they are— NO! Scratch that! For how funny they are!
Life gives us so many reasons to feel glum, and every single Monsters book made me laugh out loud more than once. So, that is priceless. Thank you, Shirt.
And yes, I also really love the poignant story line of how Jason turns into a mystical creator being.
Rooting for you, Shirtaloon. - Kingfisher1776Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0What happened to 883 to 949 was on 900 and it's gone:(. Was really getting into the characters explanation on how Jason had improved. An then out of nowhere I'm lock out of reading. Just move to 950. I will say there is some points where the sentence didn't quite to seem Wright 🤔 like words or a word was missing nothing big a verb or adverb here an there.
- NikmusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I picked up reading this series in looking for something new to read and i have found He Who Fights with Monsters to be just a light and fun read.
I have read the first nine books, whcih led me to here so I could ready what is available for book 10.
(I would also mention that I like the narrator that Audible has for this title as well. He captures Travis Deverell's humor very well) - Sean QuinnRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The MC decides to find himself and then be himself when he is yoinked into a new world with magic and monsters. He grows over time in both strength and shows more of his personality as he grows stonger. Fighting scenes are well done, monsters are unique, setting is unique, story is excellent, characters are decently fleshed out and grow over time. All in all a good story that holds the attention and leaves you wanting more.
- SpiraldeathRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great story with an Aussie flair hard to complain about that. This really has brought my once dormant love of reading back, makes me wonder why I ever stopped.
Story might not be everyone's cup of tea but I highly recommend it.
Audio book is also top notch and the narrator fits the story perfectly. - The 1st progenitorRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Hi, I don’t usually do full reviews but this gem certainly deserves it. The protagonist is extremely likeable, and genuinely charismatic, making friends quick enough that people could almost assume foul play (magic) if he wasn’t “specced” in a different direction.
The magic system of this world is unique in that I haven’t read anything quite like it.
In terms of character, so far all those introduced are 3 dimensional characters with their own flaws and strengths, the main character is no exception. I Eagerly look forward to later chapters and cannot wait to see the way this story progresses - coarsesaltRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've been reading fantasy for a long time, and this LITrpg style stuff for the last few years. I've found a few issues in the style that frustrates me
1. The lack of long term vision/adaptability in the world. Basically they start their world building and eventually the character gets too powerful and the story starts to fall apart. - I'm over 700 chapters into this story and still feel like I'm going to need 700 more to understand the world that is being developed. This is on the top of my list of why I love this story.
2. The empty machismo of the male characters. Gratuitous sexual violence always only perpetrated on women. The weird 'dudes club' way that the character parties develop. Like the authors were living out some weird fantasy... fantasy. - Jason is not the most nuanced of characters, though he has nuanced up a bit as things have progressed... but he doesn't feel like a wannabe frat dude.
3. I enjoy the non-american centric-ness of it. I love my american friends, but it's nice to have the perspective come from elsewhere.
4. Can I add, again, just how nicely conceived the world is? I really enjoy it.
5. Weirdly, and this may seem like a contradiction, i like how vague things are. I have no idea HOW MANY COINS or HOW MANY PANTS Jason has. Thankfully.
Is it a perfect story? I don't know what would be. I could use a few less 'he said' and 'she said'. But that's mostly because I listen. It is, for me, the perfect kind of escapist fantasy. It doesn't wander off into 27 separate narrative threads, I like almost all of the recurring characters, and I don't have to overlook random bits of cruelty that seem to be inserted at random.
Plus I really enjoy the story. I have all the audiobooks and follow along here.
Thanks for writing it. - Chris RichardsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I started listening on Audible and now that I've gotten thru book 12 I realize how much a good voice actor adds to the experience. I'm enjoying the new chapters but without Jason's Aussie accent it just isn't the same. I'm going to try and wait until book 13 comes out and not read the chapters piecemeal. I doubt i will be able to... the story is that good.
