- Teja SunkuRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This fic far exceeded the expectations I had for it when I set out to read it. From its description, it seems like a basic litrpg, but it's so much more than that. It might be too soon to tell, but I suspect that this story might end up becoming one of RR's greats. I would especially recommend this fic if you're a fan of Dungeon Crawler Carl.
Style and Grammar:
I'm not the best judge of style or grammar, so I'm not going to comment too much on it. What I can say is that the writing style never got in the way of the story. Everything was formatted well too, and this fic does not suffer the problem of having too many blue screens
Story:
This is where the story really shines. The world building so far has been impeccable, and I keep wanting to learn more about it. It's compelling enough that I've started to care about the world and the people inside it. There's always a sense of progression too, and the story never feels stuck
Characters:
The characters in this story are top notch as well. This fic does bear the sin of having it's main character, Nic, be like the standard LitRPG protagonist. However, he never fails to be interesting. He has a strong sense of self, and his sense of ethics is fascinating to look at as well.
In conclusion, I would recommend reading this story - invidiousRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Writing's on point, protag compelling, progression empowering. Updates like nothing else. Nic's plotting is interesting, and it's exciting to see his growth. What more could you want?
Need sum more words. Wake up every day looking forward to the next chapter. Wish i'd found this when it was 60 chapters, so I could gorge. Hope it doesn't go on hiatus. Yup
EDIT: holy mack don'tvwear yourself out with the pace yer putting out chapters - ChayimRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0There are a couple things that I hate about System/Cultivation novels. None of those elements are here.
Probably the first is the main character. Usually you get an inhuman monster or a chosen one. Nic won a literal lottery to get where he is. He works hard to get whatever edge he can.
Seond is the inherently messy narrative about one reality and world subsuming another. Instead of trying to downplay or simplify such a complicated moral issue BoH leans into the messiness. It makes it clear that, regardless of *why* this is happening, it's the little people trying to survive that have to pay the price. "Baby Boots" seems a little like a charicature but we haven't gotten to the meat of that conflict yet.
Thirdly is the powers. It's early going in the grand scheme of things but NoDragons-
(oh shit, I had to scroll up to see who wrote this and I have to say; good job dude. Liking this a lot more than the thieves dungeon.)
Anyways, NoDragons is showing a lot of restraint so far in sketching out the fights and magic shown. In other books there'd already be a lot of numbers going up just to go up. Fights end up feeling less like math equations and more like short, brutal, struggles to survive. It does a lot for the pacing and investment.
Finally is the breadth of ideas. We are shown places and ideas that could be books in their own rights. A forest of poison, a temple of warrior insects atop a massive tree, and a massive undead turtle with a forest on its back are just a few of the striking ideas that are shown off. Again I have to appluad the restraint that NoDragons shows. It'd be very easy to have these sections go on for hundreds of pages but they're each given their moment to shine and then we follow Nic onto the next one.
All in all this is a great book and can't wait to read more.
Have a good day! - DragonOfRochesterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is an interesting take on a combination of GameLit and Cultivation. But beyond that, it's the story of a frustrated young man who had been prevented from following his dreams due to the limitations of his original body. One who earned the chance to fulfill his dreams by being given a new body. A body alien to him (but still familiar enough that he can use it well). I rather enjoy reading about the things Nic was unable to do in his previous body that he's now able to do with his new one.
The author's style is good and flows well. I found no problems with it.
The story is fun, fast paced and exciting. I'm looking forward to seeing more of Nic's interactions with the locals. NoDragons also does an incredible job crafting a believable world. The details he uses to highlight every new creature we meet is both impressive and a delight.
I listened to this story with Text to Speech. I did not hear any spelling or grammar errors.
We spend most all our time with Nic. He's competent and kind to children of all races, but he isn't a perfect person as he's stubborn but that's what makes him likeable. The other characters we don't spent too much time with as of yet, but they are fairly well portrayed and I hope we see more of some of them in the future. - EasyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story is well done, captivating fight scenes, almost dropped it because i couldn't see the plot at the beginning but the author reached out to answer my concerns and i can say it was definitely worth reading on.
And of course it always helps when the author has a great upload speed, making it eaiser to build a backlog for those of us that love to binge read. - EndersGamerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great tale from a mixed perspective as a man inside a monster body. Deals with moral implications as well as bridging the gap between both sides. Good universe development with worlds inside of worlds and lots of room to build. Can't wait to see how the story plays out. I'm through book one and partway on book 2.
- score1987Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0A great story that keeps me waiting for more. Characters have depth and room to grow, and the MC is showing growth that is believable and gives me hope for where the story will end up. The magic/skill system is unique and the world has been well though out and feels like one that we could get a lot more from as we go along.

Breaker of Horizons is a wild, energetic ride to a dangerous new world, a deathworld called 'Earth'.
Well, it's new for our protagonist Nic anyway. Nic is 'lucky' enough to win a lottery slot to have his mind transferred into a monster's form during the early stages of the integration of Earth into the wider multiverse. His fate is to be fodder, one of a multitude serving as a stepping stone for the humans of Earth to adapt to the dangers of the multiverse.
Of course, Nic's never been very good at accepting his fate, which is precisely what makes him so interesting to the High Sept and the Low Tomb.
System Apocalypse webnovels are nothing new, but with Breaker of Horizons NoDragons has taken the road less traveled, and given us a narrative from the perspective not of some beleaguered human, but instead, one of the invaders. This decision informs everything that follows, and creates a unique story experience, particularly coupled with their signature prose and imagery.
Our protagonist, Nic, is characterized by a blend of reckless ambition and cautious guile; quick to throw himself into the dangers of his new world for every advantage that has previously been denied him, but also using his head to stay alive when everyone and everything around him would be happy to take it from his shoulders for the Essence in his soul and the change in his non-existent pockets.
The supporting cast that Nic interacts with are vibrant and bring a lot to the table, whether as antagonists or otherwise, despite (or maybe because of) language and societal barriers between them. The world is fantastic and even in the few chapters uploaded to date (and a few more in the beta pipeline) it feels alive; getting to see the wonder and peril through Nic's eyes is a delight.
The writing style is very much in the Muhammad Ali school of floating and stinging, taking us from beautifully realized vistas to mad scrambles for survival in turns. Mechanically it is well above - pjthumRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Well written, compelling and well rounded main character, interesting perspective and twist on the traditional set up. I appreciate that the author didn't do too much explanation of how stuff worked but let it slowly reveal itself as we went along - too many stories feel the need to go into the system in excruciating detail but this one lets us learn as we go. I've enjoyed reading this story very much. It's still very early but I'm interested to see where this goes. There's a lot of opportunity for an expansion of the story and the author has already hinted - through the dream sequence - that they have much bigger ambitions for this story in store.
- Leahcim ZanathaxRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a VERY good story. There is a plot, and it is interesting - something a lot of RR stories can't say. The grammar and spelling are well done, easily in the top 5% on RR. The MC has a personality and the author sticks to that personality consistently...
Even when there are times I wish he wouldn't.
The MC is kind of... brash. Well, its closer to breathtakingly foolhardy, nearly to the point of suicidal, but, as of Chapter 48 we're finally getting shown why he's not only so desperate for strength but also why his sense of self-preservation is... lacking?
Anyway, good story. Well-written. Absolutely worth anyone's time unless they just hate LitRPG and/or Cultivation stories, though this is what I'd have to refer to as Cultivation-lite.
