Description

Some people simply aren't meant to live normal lives. Trigger, war hero and Osea's Ace of Aces, is one such person. After the strife and conspiracy of the Lighthouse War, he finds himself in a star-laden sky far more fantastical and infinite than the great blue where he reigned as king. None there were ready for the predator with three strikes on it's tail. An Ace Combat 7 x Star Fox crossover.(Knowledge of the settings helps, but is not required.)

  • For a fanfiction, this is paced wonderfully. Would love to see a rendition of this in a game. but considering starfox is a neglected franchise, this would be a close second. Probably could just cut the starfox out of it if you wanted to and make it your own…

I don't care for Ace Combat and haven't played Star Fox for twenty years, but it didn't matter.  The characters are well realized and the story worldbuilds quite well without simply assuming familiarity.
Despite the MC being more than a little OP,  the story manages stakes quite well and remains compelling.

Three strikes and black skies is a fantastic literary adventure following a ace pilot who Is far from everything he knows, but who feels most at home in a cockpit pulling nine Gs.
It explores what it means to go from being a hero to being a person, and how hard it is for someone who is used to seeing everyone else around them die learned to be able to be opened again.

Fantastic story. It is very enjoyable with well written characters and a great concept.
the main character starts Holding true to his military origins however throughout the story we see them loosening up
I also enjoy the conflict trigger has over allowing nidhog more control of the vessel and drones and his distrust of ai making him initially against it

Coming into this fic with my only experince being Star Fox 64 and nothing else did not harm my enjoyment at all.
Since the main character is finding everything out himself I'm not lost at all.
The action is enjoyable and feels just like how one of the games would play out.

Never played Starfox and only know about Ace Combat since its in my Steam library so I go into this story with fresh unfiltered eyes. Phenomenal story and the relationships are truly compelling in their complexity. Is the MC and his craft a bit overpowered? Yes but in such a way that makes truly believable that what he can do is achievable by anyone.

The Starfox universe is so open to growth, this is one of the storys I look forward to reading how the author interprets the lore and intigrates this world and set of characters. Especialy the artificial legs if at all. Starfox and his squad replaced there legs with augments for high preformance in the cockpit. But I think most of the crew of three strikes still have there real legs. Crew also seems quite well rounded m to f wise and skill set and personality.

This is an enjoyable, well written, serial in the vein of Firefly/Cowboy Bebop and many other space westerns.  While technically falling under the isekai concept, it remains fresh, with the primary protagonist treating the situation in a grounded way, starting with pragmatic survival to found family.
I have never played the ace combat series, but enough context is given that I never felt like I was missing anything important.  I am familiar with the star fox series, which is more prominent.  Having some familiarity helps with name drops (locations, major universe characters, technology), but I expect someone would pick up the context without too much issue.  Probably the biggest help is visualizing the world.  I think this story could stand on its own without either franchise as backdrops.  The franchise provide short hand for the reader, but the texture is there with or without it.  Fox McCloud doesn't randomly show up to save the day for example, more acts as a universe wide idol, aspiration for the team.
Suspension of disbelief is required about some things (shared language, atmosphere, etc) which aren't really explored.  I expect this is intentional to simply keep the story moving and interesting.
Primary protagonist is extremely competent, but in specific areas.  They rest of the team fills the gaps, each with their own strengths/weaknesses.
If you dig firefly/cowboy bebop, are tired of litrpg, enjoy well written characters driving the story, enjoy some more mature reading (violence and sex), I think this should be on your current list.
