Description

How would a true immortal with average talent in magic fare within a world where magic is everything?

In the world of Aria, only a small fraction of the population are classified as magicians. These magicians are able to use magic through the manipulation of the mana they are born with and are the core of the military strength within every nation. However, one nation in particular uses magicians to an even higher extreme than the others. This nation is known as The Republic of Arcania. The largest power in Aria.

Our story follows Nathan Fox as he graduates from high school and is sent to the Arcane Academy for his required training as a magician before he eventually serves his ten year term in the military.Nathan has been a true immortal ever since he got a semi-magical disease that makes any damage done to his body instantly reverse itself, bringing him back to his top form on the day that he became an immortal.

Death is an impossibility for Nathan. But there are worse things in the world than death. And if the power-hungry magicians of the world were to learn of Nathan's true immortality? Then he might just experience those things for himself.

Nathan must navigate his way through the military academy without giving away his secret. But when the entire world falls into chaos due to a revolt by the most powerful beings on the planet, how will he keep his secret safe? That has yet to be foretold.

I can get how people might think it isn't perfect, with the style and pace being slightly more slow going and the tension being based on secrecy and potential past and future trauma rather than potential death, or the first arc being a school arc, but none of that justifies a rating bellow 4.5 stars. And that's all just the style of the story which is entirely subjective, while the grammar as far as I can tell is perfect and the characters are pretty darn realistic with a few tropes thrown in for added flavor.
The only real odd part you could deduct some score for would be the coincidences and luck with all the famous people that he just so happens to meet and become friends with, but honestly none of that is necessarily in his favor and we have no idea how many rich and powerful people are actually present in the world so that could be entirely normal considering how rare the talent to be a mage is in the first place. Not to mention a main character needs to have some of that luck to even be different in the first place without just basing power on the ability to scream louder than your opponent.
So anyways, I could see a 4.5 star rating for this being fair if I squint hard enough, but a 4 star rating? You're all off your rockers.
Edit: I've come to realize that saying "you're all off your rockers" is perhaps offensive to some, and I just wanna say that realization made me laugh my a*s off.

I like the book, I think its better written on amazon, which I think is why the reviews aren't higher on this site but I wanted to write a review here too. I think the concept is unique and the MC feels intelligent, sometimes a bit blasé but it fits the situation. I like the world building a lot, obviously there's a fair bit of plot armor but some of that is needed for stuff to make sense. Overall a fun read, looking forward to more chapters. Thanks.

Two important things to address first : Pacing and Premises
Thus far, pacing has been slow, as the main character is attending each of his classes, so the reader can get a feel for characters and activities before they start happening 'off-screen'. It ensures that whichever important things happen can be talked about in future chapters and be understood in context, without having to go through this story at a slow pace and listen to the same activites over and over again. Finding a balance of what is important enough to show during a chapter and what can just be summarized quickly is very important in any type of school setting, mainly because of the repetitious nature of classes.
The main character is effectively immortal and invulnerable, though he can still experiance pain. This hasn't been a particularly large plot point yet, as it is a secret he desperately wants to keep from everyone else at the school. However, it does mean he can train his mana arcs (basically muscles, but for magic instead of physical strength) much faster than his peers, as training them quickly is a dangerous and painful activity.
The setting is decently modern, though technology is mainly an interface with magic. Politically speaking, the countries in this world are in a constant state of war, and because of the insane advantages of having a mage on a battlefield, magic schools are first and foremost military training centers, albiet far more luxurious.
The main character has so far not shown much of a personality, he is mainly focused on hiding his secret and using the knowledge from school to make himself stronger as fast as possible.
The story is a slice of life, though there is some tension in terms of hiding his immortality. The characters are compelling and interesting, with understandable actions and goals.
Grammer and technical aspects are polished, with very few errors. Finally, the style can be gritty at times, with intense descriptions of pain.
    Overall, I have immensely enjoye

I've been a big fan of immortal endless progression MC stories and this one is amazing.
The dialogue isn't always perfect and the Mc is by no means a normal person anymore.
    But honestly, fair.
    Good old Nate.
If you're reading reviews to see if you should read it, just give it a try.
He mixes a bit of coding into magic circles with mana arcs and cultivating.

    OVERALL RATING - 5/5
Some things to establish first. Magic School Fantasy or School Fantasy is one of the more difficult fantasy genres to write in. There is a tenuous balance between maintaining the plausibility and consistency of the actual school setting, the rate at which the MC and supporting characters are learning new information in their classes, and the over-arching story beats that drive the drama and conflict. On top of that, it deals with characters that are effectively fresh out of high school and all the messy and compelling emotions that come from that time of our lives.
The Undying Magician has done a good job at maintaining the balance between its different aspects. We are given plenty of chances for the characters to show who they are, the school is established and just as mystifying in some ways to us readers as it is to Nathan, and there is a constant stream of bite-sized information about what is happening with this strange immortality 'disease' that our MC has been afflicted with as well as the general structure of the world. The classes serve as ways for us to learn about the systems of the world that we will be dealing with as well as establish the dynamics of the learning environment that our main cast of characters will be, presumably, interacting in for a significant portion of coming story.
While the story is still in its nascent stages, there is a clear direction forming in both the characters' personalities as well as the general themes of the world and mood of the conflict and story. The Undying Magician is a well-crafted work that's fighting to claim space on a site full of power fantasies and blue boxes.

The pacing is fine if a bit slow but nothing to complain about. Maybe I would feel differently if I didn't have 20-something chapters to binge.
Enjoyable story and an interesting magic system. Hopefully this is one of those stories that goes for a while. I love me some words.

I dont usually enjoy magic school stories. They tend to focus more on the high school part. Way to much attention on relationships,  and the magic system ends up being stupid.
While there is a lot of clics forming around our MC, its not taking away from the magic so far. The author clearly put a lot of thought into his magic system. Its detailed and original.
There is a lot of drama getting started. Lots of children of powerful leaders that have history with each other. Which for me is a negative.  But most wont have a problem with it. Still an interesting story just for its magic system.

I can't tell if this will end in spectacular failure or just keep giving comedic gags ;)
Poor MC is so desprate for anonymity and keeps getting a spotlight thrown on him. His poor heart.
Story is still in early stages, bascially still all beginning preamble, but its certainly laying the ground work for something curious.
The premise is an intersting one, as the MC isn't stupid OP in the usual way, but merely immortal, but given the prevelance they place on military might, if they find out, oh he ain't gonna live a quiet life at all!
Promises to be a ride. I'm game.

Seems like an interesting premise (at least from what I have read so far.). Plan to finish it up in the near future. Can't give it higher than a 4 star due to not having read all the chapters and not many chapters being out yet. However, this story definatly has promise , so I'm excited to see where the author takes us!

Overall, this story is fun to read. We follow Nathan Fox and his immortality as he navigates through a magical education. I like the way the story handles its simple premise. The storylines are exactly what you would expect out of this kind of story, and the characters are normal for the genre, and I love it. On a large scale, if you were to read a dozen chapters at a time as if they were one chapter, then you would find yourself reading a very nice story.
However, the pacing really is an issue. I stopped reading after chapter ten because nothing happened. As far as I know, within the first ten chapters, nobody does anything. The protagonist walks around, thinks to himself, learns more about the school, and sometimes talks to people. All of the exposition comes from Nathan telling the audience things that happened in the past, and all of the tension comes from decisions that were made before the story itself.
I have no doubt in my mind that future chapters of this story will have action and tension, but, as a result of the slow pacing, it takes a lot of patience to get there. Overall, I really do enjoy reading this story, but the pacing could be much faster.
