The Academy's Immortal Professor [OP MC, LitRPG]
Community Rating
Description
After a lifetime as humanity’s strongest, Lucian never expected to become a professor. Once he defeated the Demon Lord, Lucian disappeared to relax for a few centuries and only came back when an old friend called in a favor. Said friend also happened to be able to see the future, and apparently a whole string of disasters was on the way, all somehow tied to a certain academy. Naturally, Lucian was suspicious when the “solution” turned out to be him taking a teaching job there, but he was willing to give it a shot. All he had to deal with were scheming nobles, mysterious threats lurking beneath the surface, and a few old enemies who really should’ve stayed dead. Oh, and there was also a new, enigmatic System to worry about. Still, Lucian knew he could handle anything that came his way. Especially right after a good sandwich. New chapters are posted every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

- LauralanaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The main character is a very powerful Archmage who is asked to come to an academy as a professor, because of visions threatening the end of the world.
I was recently reminded that writing a good story with an OP main character is proably harder than doing it with a weakling, but Evil Lemon seems to have it down.
There are all these mysteries that the MC has to figure out, which neatly removes any chances of the story becoming boring, while it doesn't dilute the charme of an OP story.
So far I am very pleased, but the story has just started, so I am reserving final judgement. - asdflkjhRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I am a recent convert to this genre. The plot, the characters so far are intriguing. The author hints at what conflicts and challenges that sound intriguing. The protagonist is enigmatic and clearly has a very interesting back story that I hope we get a glimpse into rather than lengthy expositions. I can't wait to read more about the secondary characters like Belle or even the antagonistic student, Lucas, his apprentices, etc., also. I hope this author publishes the book as I would like to re-read the book and add it to my library.
- Climber13Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great book with good characters. Enjoyed reading this and look forward to future chapters.i enjoy the different character perspectives and appreciate having other people to relate to and root for. I like how the op mc isn’t mean and condescending towards others. I wonder if he will find a new favorite sandwich.
- A Random TurtleRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0As the title implies, I’m a sucker for Magical Academy stories, Magic in general, tropes, and op mages. This story has all that and more.Grammar is impeccable. Nothing stood out that pulled me out of the story, and that’s a welcome experience in novel writing these days; as authors are racing to release daily chapters slip ups do happen once in a while, but as to where I’ve read in the story, nothing jarring.I don’t have much to say about the style as well since it works for the story very well. The pacing is fast, and because of that the plot moves smoothly and is not bogged down by unnecessary scenes. Some readers prefer slower pacing, and sometimes I do too, but for this story, its speed works best; we don’t stay too long in one scene stretching on for chapters, and that makes for a good experience. On that note, however, one thing I would like to see more are the classes; they have basically been skipped for now, trading places for personal mentoring that Lucian carries out for his apprentices. I’m not caught up yet, so that might have changed; this review is based on where I’ve read up to at this moment.Characters. I love everyone that has been shown so far, and Belle is the best of the lot. My preference. Each one is three dimensional, distinct, and all have their own goals, backstories, and motivations. And they all move the plot forward in enticing ways.As for the story. Like I said, I’m a sucker for these kind, and I’m enjoying it very much.5/5. Thanks for the story!
- CrazyfunjdoggRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I like the premise a lot. And the MC is not an ass, or pompous, or angsty. Chill, curious, and a little bumbling. No info dumps, information dolled along the way. I do love arrogant punks getting schooled by those they perceive as inferior, looking forward to him shocking people out of their minds.
- The_frozen_instantRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Unlike some other stories I have read here on this platform, this is one of the few stories where I wake up in the morning and immediately can’t for the chapter. The plot twist make the next chapter completely unpredictable every single time. One of the best books and this platform and would recommend that you give it a read.
- luvtechnoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0competent author. writing is clean and it reads well. characters are fleshed out with some kind of foreshadowing that make things interesting. pacing is great. story is ur typical op undercover academy instructor trope that is light on litrpg elements.
my only critque are the dialogues. it feels like the dialogues are said by the same person, almost robotic. sprinkle some personality into those dialogues and make the characters have their own unique voice plz. - BlueGuardianRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The story is based around a mystery. What is The System? How did it start and who / what is behind it? Is it a tool to aid or a weapon to cripple? This story feels like a JJ Abrams plot. He introduces the audience to an intriguing question or situation and then teases out the mystery. Yet so many of his stories fall apart at the end because the initial premise is far more interesting than the eventual answer. Will this story continue to be good? Hard to say. But this is a strong start and an interesting premise. We'll have to read on to see if the author can stick the eventual landing.
- lil_literalistRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Overall
This is an overpowered MC story, but it's by no means boring. He’s clearly stronger than most people we’ve seen so far, but he still has limits, and more importantly, not every problem can be solved by brute force.
I also think the story is well worth reading overall, especially for its world-building and the direction of the plot.
Story
The twist on the system is one of the most interesting parts. There are plenty of stories where a system suddenly appears and everyone has to adapt, but this asks a different question: what is it like for a person who has already reached the pinnacle of magic before a system is ever introduced?
That alone makes the setting feel fresh.
There is also plenty of mystery and intrigue to go around, but not so much that we're drowning in it. I think that the author has done a very good job of balancing the MC and the world.
Characters
The MC is the kind of character that’s easy to root for. He’s humble, but not in a forced or fake way. Combined with his intelligence and power, it makes him feel grounded rather than over-the-top.
Other characters seem to also be 3-dimensional, rather than caricatures. None of them are incredibly deep yet, but they feel like real people.
Style
There’s nothing that particularly stands out about the writing style, either good or bad. And honestly, that’s a good thing. The author’s technical writing doesn’t get in the way of the story.
Grammar
There might be an occasional grammar mistake in a chapter, but nothing frequent or distracting enough to pull you out of the experience. - SildRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This story is different.
The MC is truly OP. The author has not jumped through hoops to make his power "balanced", do not excpect thrilling fights and epic Long battles. Though sometimes his apprentices do have some good fights and progression.
The MC is laidback and unafraid and lets his curiosity decide what to do. Most characters have a seperate personality, but their motivations and drive is hard to figure out. This is a two-edged sword, some might think they lack depth. I hope it is a quality sign and that the author will slowly reveal more depth through how characters react and act in the MC's eyes.
The plot seems promising, in the way a mystery novel progresses. Since the MC is so powerful, the plot needs to be secretive and complicated. If it was a simple enemy, he would have chrushed it during the first two chapters.
A small plothole is the abcense of divination/surveilance type spells for the MC. This should be a part of an archmages spellbook. He is also quite bad at using others for information gathering. Maybe it will be adressed later in the book.
So far a good start, the continuation will reveal whether it is a bust or a gem.
