- PotatoXRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've really been enjoying Draconic Transcendence so far. I binged it in 2 days, and I've loved every moment of it. My favourite part of the story is the characters!
Each character is fleshed out and has their own backstory, relationships, motivations, and power progression. From what I've read so far, the characters aren't in the story just to act as chess pieces, but they are their own people with their own goals.
In particular, my favorite character is Kallad. His comedic presence and deep character background really showcases how Vertrixx writes incredibly relatable characters. Kallad is an Aspect (one of the powerful beings in the world) and a father to Sin (the brilliant female protagonist). Despite his incredible power, he has moments where he is vulnerable, just like everyone else.
The friendships and relationships in Draconic Transcendence are hilarious, tear-jerking, and all around fun.
The standard of writing is amazing. Vertrixx writes in such a way that it's very easy to get immersed into the world.
The story itself is great, with clear goals set out by the main characters. The prospect of a deep and rich story with over 1000 chapters AND daily uploads is incredibly enticing.
I'm very excited to continue reading! - Gameknight2169Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Lots of tropes. MC is super talented and powerful, parents/mentors are super strong, etc. Who cares. The point is, you're mostly here to watch the kid get stronger, and watch the two friggin lovebirds get together. Very cute, very wholesome, melts my heart. I need more.
No seriously, y'all know some good wholesome romance stories please DM me. I genuinely need more of that. I'm sort of getting bored of all the novels that are just "fight fight fight", I need wholesome in my life. - JoeybackhouseRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.01000 chapters?!
The foundation is there. Normally I don't read books but Draconic Transcendence is a real page-turner. Every chapter has so much cool stuff happening. The male main character has really cool moments and I laughed a lot at the jokes or comedy bits too!
From the story so far, the main characters are teenagers in their later years and are working through their problems, reacting to new situations that they've never been in before, and maintaining relationships. They're developing new techniques and becoming more powerful, and it's really fun to read. Rai and Sin's dynamic is also really fun to see grow naturally throughout.
The story and depth of the story is explored through the characters and their decisions, which is a fun experience. The world itself has a lot of rich history that you want to know more about. It's awesome storytelling. I think it's very entertaining, with a lot of fun storylines that go deep into the world.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the story evolves throughout the 1000 chapters. Seeing the characters grow, learning more about the power systems, and about the histories of the side characters is something I didn't know that I'd be this excited about. Hopefully Vertrixx can hold strong with his daily uploads on this journey! - Tim3sharkRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Lets get this out of the way... its a power fantasy. The MCs are the strongest, most attractive, and smartest (well, one of them at least) people around and coast through most events with little in the way of real trouble.
On the plus side, neither are insuferable. Though one is sort of an idiot regarding some topics its played as more of a joke than anything and he's not some over-powered bumbling bland idiot. Basically, the 2 main characters, and the varied supporting cast, are enjoyable to follow. The relationship's cute as hell too. It had me smiling and I don't usually care all that much about relationship "drama".
The magic system is... sort of soft, but it works well enough. The fights using it tend to be well done.
The world is facinating. It feels like just another fantasy world.... but there are hints here and there... and thats as far into that as I'm going to go.
The... story... is... a... little.... slow.... Its clear that the focus is on the characters and their interactions rather than rushing into epic battles, and while the foundations for some epic and dramatic climax is being built, its mostly being drip fed while we get to follow a bunch of fun characters around their school lives. That's not to say that nothing happens, the mc's relationship grows, the side characters have their own little things going, people die... sometimes explosively... but there's not really any urgency to it all. It takes multiple chapters to get through a single day at school, for example.
Frankly, I've been thuroughly enjoying it so far (read everything on RR in 1 day) and am looking forward to see how the story being built playes out. - Youngish OldsterRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Really enjoying this story so far. It's a mix of progression adventure/cultivation story, world building mystery with lots of hidden hands, and a sprinkling of comedy/snarkiness/maybe romance. (?)
The story follows Rai, who is born under mysterious circumstances to an apparently unremarkable family on an out-of-the-way farm. Tropey? Sure. But it's well done, and the plot evolves based on good storytelling instead of info dumps.
Rai grows up being trained by his aunt & uncle, who turn out to be a powerful mage & swordsman, respectively. Of course, they're protecting him from various dangerous foes, while also dealing with political machinations that seem to be building toward world-changing war. Tropey? Sure again. But again, well done.
Rai grows & begins to unlock unexpected & powerful abilities that get him accepted to Aether Academy in the big city. He begins to build a circle of friends & allies while also stumbling into various antagonists. Mysterious people & beings pop up with gifts (?) and guidance (?.) Whom should he trust, and why? Tropey? Sure yet again. But yet again, well done.
Will Rai & co. unravel the politics & hidden hands around them before getting sucked into conflicts they don't understand? Will Rai just go full overpowered battle maniac & crush everyone in his way? (Why not both?). Regardless, Rai & co. are sure to change the world.
Give this a try- it's well-written, the characters & story are interesting, and it's all-around good fun. - NicebagdadRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Its honestly a great story I think, has potential to go rly far(it is a little cliche but I was honestly looking for that). However as also commented on in another review the dialogue can be jarring. A lot of the social interactions feel unnatural and forced. I will continue to follow this as I think it deserves attention and I believe it will likely get better as the author continues, but it does currently have its minor issues.
- afganitiaRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5The style is great. The pacing is very good. The setting is reasonably interesting. The grammar is fantastic.
But this novel suffers from the Gary Stu sindrome. The MC is perfect, has everything, the antagonists are caricatures, and the peanut gallery just go "woah, MC is strong".
Unfortunate, but the result is a mixed bag. - IstyaturRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5This is a fairly generic light novel power fantasy. Its not bad; the grammer is decent and the plot while slow has promise. Ther eare some awkward phrases but no jarring or confusing errors. What prevents it from being good is the characters are pretty flat, there is strong Gary Stu vibes, and and the writing style is fairly basic.
As is common in webnovels, there is a lot of slice of life amblineing, but I'm seeing some style imporvement as Vertrixx gains expiriance; so there is a meta-purpose. - EugenioRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Op mc. The thought that he has when he's only 8 years old look like the same of a teenager at minimum. The slow romance is slow only in the sense that are young and do not confess to each other beacuase they are shy. Adults acts like kids. Typical stereotiped nobles.
- CreatureDukeRoyal Road★★★ 3.0I should start with that I like this story, but over the many chapters I found the characters maturity, whether it be the 16 year oldschool kids, the almighty Aspects, Head of University or any character,
They all suffer from feeling extremely similar, so much so that I wouldn't even bother remembering information about said characters as it didn't matter who was technically talking as it felt like they were...well...the same.
Our Main character is the country Bumpkin who is very talented but not very wordly and also not booksmart. He does have this high level of perception that gives him good intuition though.
My problem is is that the difference from when we met him as a early child at the beginning of the story is the same person we have at 16. Emotionally they feel very similar.
We then move on to any of the teachers at the school. They are all the same characters, with eye's narrowing and generally being not good teachers to the Main character. THe headmaster has no feeling behind him, he's not Gandalf the Grey, he's not Albus Dumbeldore even though it feels like that's the loose charicture he is meant to fall into. He doesn't have any real presence, the only thing that makes him stand out is that he likes the MC which since no one seemingly does feels like a standout trait which really shouldn't.
I guess what I'm trying to get at is that the tone of characters and their personality all feel the same regardless of who they are. Even the Aspects we meet don't feel like people of vast power, experience and... adults. While I understand that Sin's father was meant to be the goofy one each one we have met since has felt the same absurdity in their characters.
The dragon mother or whatever is another prime example. A being of major power, presumably imprisoned. Acting the same as every other figure in this story, gigling, laughing, joining, not really taking things seriously. All fine to have in a character but it just further enforced how similar every character
