Description

Everybody knows about the Cataclysm, the Gifted, whatever. Rifts in the world opened. Monsters poured out. Humanity was brought to the brink, but some people developed strange powers to fight back with and now the world is on its way back to being almost normal. Unless you were quite literally born yesterday, everyone has experienced the same events. Kayden's got more important issues - case in point, getting a place to stay the night.

He doesn't have anyone to crash with, doesn't trust living in the tent cities of refugees waiting for their homes to be rebuilt. That's why he got a sleeping bag and a hunting license, and he's going to be sleeping in a monster-infested cave for a while.

So few chapters yet I'm already invested. The main character is lovable and funny, yet isn't shallow by any stretch and has plenty of great flaws that enhance him. the style of writing is detailed and immersive but doesn't bog it down with endless exposition or lore dumps.
in terms of the genre, I think it's very well executed and already stands out from other 'dungeons in modern earth' type stories (the bar is in hell, but regardless). it feels realistic, there is no over-reliance on systems or such to hand-waive the weirdness away, and down to earth problems that'd come from dungeons and monsters have been thought out and integrated, such as meat prices rising significantly due to monsters.
a story with lots of promise, I'll update my review later.
