Description

Once the most powerful ascendant in the world, Niramyn was celebrating his latest victory when his supposedly vanquished rival blindsided him with an impossible working of magic. Trapped in the form of a child and bereft of his magic and his memories, he finds himself without place or purpose. With only fragments of his forgotten past to guide him, he sets out to learn new magic and discover the truth about himself.

As Nym travels, he learns the differences between mortal magic and his own. He makes new allies and enemies, while old allies think he’s dead, and his old rival is intent on finishing the job. Will Nym be able to regain his power and take back his place as an immortal ascendant, or will his new life take a different path?

I think the author has done an excellent job with the main character, his faults seem genuine and not manufactured. The writing quality is also quite good, nothing to complain about honestly. I don't think that the story is similar to speedrunnung the multiverse at all, Lo knows he is the godking, nym has absolutely no idea what or who he is, so yeah different set up and motivation and all that.
Finally Just happy to find one more good fic on RR.

Some of the reviews have compared this fic to the Last Orellen, a great fic that ended prematurely like a year ago, and I honestly agree. They both do the process of a protagonist learning (or re-learning) magic well and they show that their protagonists are strong and talented without making light of their struggles. I also like how Ascendant shows that the protagonist is flawed without making him unlikeable. Ascendant is well-written, fun, and (currently) updating frequently. Try out a few chapters. If it's not your thing, then that's that. But if it is, you're not gonna regret taking the time to read it.

This book is excellent. It has the tone and style of The Last Orellen, but the structure of Speedrunning the Multiverse, with the protagonist not even aware that he's speedrunning.
    Style:
The style is consistent throughout, and like I mentioned previously reminds me of The Last Orellen. There are no quips, swears, and I don't think there were any jokes yet. The point is, the immersion is great. The worldbuilding is woven nicely into the story giving you an expanding picture of the world without infodumping.
    Grammar:
Grammar is nearly perfect. Not much to talk about here. Here and there I ran into a few sentences that were confusing yet grammatically correct but I didn't end up leaving any grammar corrections.
    Story:
Here I left 4 stars. This is not because I think any story elements presently are bad, just that at the time of this review the story is kind of straightforward and linear, without much nuance or complexity. I got the impression that the story is really going places, and that these first three arcs are really just a kind of involved worldbuilding, giving the character some agency and a chance to establish himself while giving the readers a picture of the world and setting their expectations for the rest of the book. I expect that the story will become more interesting later in the book.
    Characters:
The characters in the book are for the most part excellently done. The author left a comment on a recent chapter about this, but the one imperfection is the main character. The protagonist is actually ancient and powerful, but has lost his memories and has had his age decreased by an enemy. It's effectively reincarnation, but with memories that slowly come back instead of having them from the start. The main character is a child, but he comes off as an adult, so much so that it's surprising when other characters bring up his age. The characterization has gotten more consistent throughout the chapters that I've read though, so it's no big deal.
    Overall, if you

Style - The prose flows nearly perfect throughout the entirety of this story. The pacing is usually steady but it does change throughout chapters, however, it changes appropriately to match the action and chapter content.
Story - the story is immediately engaging and then begins to unravel slowly. Our main character learns something new or finds a new use for magic nearly every chapter and the magic system is super cool. I feel like I understand how it works and can see it's potential for lots of power later. This is a story of a boy who is unsure of who they truly are but possesses powers unique to themselves - they can actually see magic, something no one else can. It's a pretty cool way to make the MC unique.
Grammar - the grammar is perfect. Seriously.
Character - the main character, Nym, is fun to read and an engaging character. His power development is interesting. His attitude can be a bit all over the place but ultimately, Nym is kind, eager to help and learn, but also will stand up for himself and the people he cares about.
the side characters are good but only one feels fully fleshed out by chapter 10, however, more characters are being introduced at a good pace.
this story is a cozy progression with enough cool action to keep you on your toes. The magic is fun and the characters are well written. Highly recommended!

This is a very enjoyable story. A likeable mc with an interesting journey, great supporting characters and an existential threat looming in the background.  It's vaguely litrpg but disappointingly light on the numbers or character sheets, if that is your thing. Id be happy with a slightly slower pace and there is huge potential for a school arc and an adventurer type scenario. Hope this story runs and runs.

You need a better naming sense, my man. The title including both "ascendant" and "progression" makes me think this is going to be another power-hungry psychopath litrpg protagonist with nothing on his mind but killing things and asserting dominance. But it's nothing like that. Nym is a real person, with sympathetic motives and actual psychology. I hope he works things out with Ciana and Babkin eventually... or alternatively, no closure, because life isn't always neat.

I am enjoying the story so far. It offers a refreshing look at a regression fantasy with a plausible reason for the main character to make rookie mistakes. Often times these stories have MC's that know the perfect way to do everything and I feel like that leads to flat stories that tell instead of show. While I'm not happy with how every detail of the world and its knowledge is laid out, it is enjoyable enough that I am willing to give the author time to develop their story.

So far so good. Finished what was written in one chunk. Definitely worth taking a shot on this and see where it goes.  Good world building and interesting characters so far. Looking forward to more adventures of nym and see where this goes.              I can see this becoming one of my go to reads

This is a review after having completed the whole thing. The magic framework is interesting, but so is the world building. The MC of course has flaws mentioned by other early reviews, but there is a definite change in his lived experience, his confidence, his decision making as he grows older. Overall this is a story I'd highly recommend raking the time to read. What's better, you know you'll get a completed story without worrying about release schedules or whether it will be dropped.
