- Authors DreadRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0My favourite part of this story is the first chapter. The description was quite good, I felt immerse along the journey of the expedition as I was introduced to world building and main character. The subtle details that the author toss here and there, in my opinion really brings it off.
XCEL is a thrilling exploration into a world where the supernatural and reality intertwine. It also has a taste for mystery. The pacing of the story didn’t feel rush at all, it was steady and the transition from one sentence to the next flows perfectly, which allowed me to dive deeper in the ongoing narrative.
The characters are awesomely delivered on a platter to chew from. The Japanese names are a nice touch. I found myself relating to the protagonist and his reactions to the strange events around him that felt so genuine. The mysterious stranger, added an element of intrigue.
The action sequences were well written and exciting. I could easily visualize the battles, also the innovative use of psychic powers in combat gave the fight scenes some POP. The story also explored themes of friendship and loyalty. It touched on the moral implications of power and the potential for its misuse, which showcased extra layers of complexity.
The writing style was engaging, with a good balance of dialogue and description. The use of imagery effectively set the scene and conveyed the characters' emotions. The plot was well-structured and the intellectual implementations were neatly done. As for the grammar, I’d say it’s also well done, only minor typos.
Honestly, I enjoyed reading this story. It successfully combines elements of exploration, action, mystery, and the supernatural. If you like paranormal and psychological stories, then you’ve come to the right place. XCEL will deliver, trust me. - Fabu-JimRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Since the middle of May, I have been reading XCEL, slowly working my way through all of the available chapters so far. I've made it to 62 as of this review, and, I just have to say, wow.
This has been one of the best stories I've read from my more recent memory, from start to current chapter. I've completely fallen in love with the vast cast full of interesting characters and very amusing dynamics, and every chapter so far has been exciting and a blast to read.
Some of my favorite moments so far have been Chekov's Car in the climax of arc 1, the Kinuka+Juusei vs. Kemuri fight, and Meguru's power reveal, all of which put on display Lux's strengths as a writer. He's great at making compelling characters with unique and interesting powers (that, in my opinion, are all based on certain literary devices/tropes that I take much joy in discussing with Lux and fellow readers!) and has crafted a unique version of the world that I find very fun to learn about, chapter by chapter.
As a fan of the paranormal, action, and horror myself, I have greatly enjoyed how excellently Lux has melded these genres together into a fun, concise, and unique story. - ToririRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Outsanding story and a plot that mesmerises you right from the very start. I would highly recommend this novel to anyone that loves paranormal fiction, be it anime or novel fan alike. It's a refreshing take on almost every single classic anime trope, and Luxierre turns said tropes on their heads.
- jmunroeartRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I don't think I can find all the words to describe how much I love this story. It has a good plot and interesting characters, a unique and extraordinary concept. I haven't read anything like this before.
The episodes Orange Juice (17), The Father, the Son, and the ...(24) and DEAD GOD CANNOT DECIDE (36) are episodes that are wonderful to me.
In short, XCEL has a lot of potential and I feel really lucky to also illustrate the characters in this story. Please! Give this story a chance, I'm sure you'll love it as much as I do. - thebigfellaRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5“This world is corrupt, it's falling apart at the seams. Civilization is on the brink of collapse! And what's to blame? Inferior design.” — Rinkaku Harigane
XCEL is brimming with appreciation and love for many of the current hard hitters within the manga industry, Chainsaw Man, JJK, themes and tones such as those find themselves right at home within this story where this author takes their concepts and ideas and manifests them as their own as a unique take upon the gritty super-powered young adult stories of modern day. The story and words drip with passion and respect to their inspirations while standing on its own feet within those concepts.
Style Score: 5/5
Within the chapters, everything is dripping with style. The author's writing is well defined, and many scenes are weaved in a way that makes an amazing mental picture. A personal favorite example:
“It was as though someone had placed a vertical eye right in the middle of their face, only for that eye to take root in the skull like a parasite, growing so vast that it split the face itself clean open, exposing layers of raw, red muscle, and pushing all other parts of the face aside to make room for itself. The eye was the face’s sole feature. The rest were barely visible, crumpled up against the ears on either side along with layers of split skin and muscle. Each eye was wide, staring and bulbous, the pupil flexing with the to-and-fro movement of industrial-sized sinews. They bulged out of the skull as though threatened to pop off with a sickening sound and give birth to an entirely new creature altogether.”
Besides the author's splendid writing, is also their use of pictures. Putting funds into getting scenes drawn is going above and beyond, and how they help paint the picture between the words give it distinction and life, immaculate.
Grammar Score 5/5:
Minimal to no grammar/spelling errors I noticed, the author's proofreading is nigh impeccable.
