Description

Kaiz will be king.

That tale is for the future, however. Today, Kaiz is not a king. He’s not a noble, not a lord, not even a liege. He’s atanlar.

It meant untitled, officially, but it also meant ungifted, unable, unworthy, unnecessary, unhuman. It was more a curse than a term. A badge only the damned and condemned wore.

Kaiz was thrown away as a babe because of it. He knew starvation because of it. He learnedperseverancebecause of it.

Those with titles could sneer all they wanted, but he wouldn’t suffer being stepped on. With his crew of other skilled untitleds who also refused to simply scrape by, he fought to make a place where none of them would have to.

He might do a bit more than that.

(My cover is in flux.)

Just finished reading A King in the Clouds up to chapter 8.5 , and I thought it was an interesting mix of action, tension, and deeper themes. The story revolves around the powerful Empire, facing an unstoppable enemy, and the protagonist, whose journey through this world is layered and thought-provoking. The setting and details around the empire’s struggle feel real and give a sense of the high stakes involved. One of the main themes, is about power and complacency, highlights how the powerful become soft by the better life's they lead and then finds itself vulnerable against threats, which is a thought-provoking element that lingers as you read. I enjoy these types stories that allow the reader to foreshadow a bit on their own from the plot.
The character interactions, particularly with allies and rivals, add depth, making the MCs journey feel engaging.
One thing that took a little getting used to was the amount of detail on the empire and the world itself. While the lore is interesting, it does slow the story down here and there, especially at the beginning. It was a bit challenging to keep track of some terminology and the hierarchy of the world, but once past that, the storyline picks up. But, i like quicker paced series so that may not be everyone's perspective.
All in all, if you enjoy high-stakes fantasy with gritty realism and complex characters, this book is worth a look. It’s definitely a story that stays with you after you’re done

Full disclosure! I am a big supporter of the authors other work!
Byrja has done it again! I can't say this is the same level as The Deathseeker but its very close! The prologue and introduction to Frysta is still one of my favorite beginnings on the site and this prologue gave me a similar excitement for the future. I am eager to see and learn more about Waldaun and Goldfrucht.
Style: Same style but Its more refined than before. The descriptions are good and clear The sentences have great flow. The world is so vivid!
Story/Character: This is very intriguing. The story is about a kid who cant use magic growing into a king but that is the long long term story. The real story is a orphan doing what he can do to better himself and his community. I like it. I like how he's written Kaiz. The side characters are very good too. The one place he has really really improved since before is side characters. I like so many this time. Lyn #1! More Lyn!
Grammar: A few mistakes here and there but nothing bad
Since I must complain I will say that I don't like that as soon as he gets the book for his experiments he goes off on a mission. I was looking forward to seeing more about the magic and how it works

This was the ONLY cover on the front page that wasnt the same old ai shlop. Kudos to you!
The story is pretty good. Your 'what to expect' seems accurate so far. I like the characters. Viz and Ruth especially. Waldaun is an interesting city. The whole untiled/titled thing is really well done. So Im expecting an amazing twist at some point author sir/madam.
    It better not be that
Kaiz is a lost son of the emperor or something
    That would be boring af

I'll be honest: This story starts off slowly, but that doesn't mean it's bad in any way. Im really excited for when it picks back up. The prologue gives me tons of anticipation for what will come next. The entire thing feels grandiose. The writing style is incredibly descriptive and gives me a very clear picture of the world and the settings people are in, and it's incredible. Once you sit down and start reading, you find yourself incredibly immersed. In fact, when reading the prologue, I was sad when I realized it was just the prologue, and the story wouldn't contiue from there lol. but it makes me incredibly excited for what will come of it. there are a few spelling mistakes here and there but they are really minor.  Also the chapter lengths are really long which I appriciate it gives me something substantial, to chew on. All in all it's a really whell written book and I hold lots of anticipation for whats to come.

A King in the Clouds shows the potential to be a really good story. So far, there hasn't been anything to truly set it apart, but it's written solidly and has the potential to grow into an excellent tale.
    Style: 4.5/5
Style is always something that's hard to comment on. The best novels just click. B for B for Byrja seems to have it down, but the writing lacks the final oomph to truly make it one of the best works. However, it's still far above most of the works on this site.
    Story: 4/5
The story is great. I tend to love mixing of political intrigue with characters whose main goals lie outside the realm of politics. However, the pacing feels a touch rushed, particularly in the latest few chapters, considering that this is a webnovel. If this were a book, the pacing would be perfect, but if you're reading this and a dozen other books at the same time, it can be hard to keep track of all the characters who are introduced into the background. The notes at the end of the chapter do help though.
    Grammer: 5/5
I noticed no mistakes. 'Nuff said.
    Character: 4.5/5
The main character and the side characters feel sufficiently fleshed out. They all feel distinct and have their own motivations and quirks. However, due to the aforementioned 'too many background characters too quickly' problem, the background characters, i.e. the ones who have only been mentioned but we have not seen, can be a bit hard to distinguish.
    Overall: 4.5/5
This story is really good and I strongly recommend any lovers of fantasy give it a shot. Competent main characters are always a delight to read, and B for Byrja does not disappoint.

A fairly new story, both the system and story are pretty interesting. Everything is fairly unique, and the character voices and dialect make the story stand out.
There are a few SPAG problems due to the speed of the writathon, mainly cut off words or sentences, but nothing too severe. The author also overuses bracketed techniques, that really don't need to be repeated so often.
