Description

She was once the greatest dragon to roam the world. Then shedied. Reborn in a human body eight years in the past and gifted with a System that promises to give her a second chance, Aria soon begins to learn just how weak she is in her new form. As she leans into her newfound life as a [Rogue], she learns that her people have not been happy under her leadership, not like she thought, and new threats, greater threats are looming. Threats that could very well spell the end of her second life and her entire world if she doesn't grow stronger. Stopping the [Hero] might not be enough anymore. And if she has any hope of reaching level 35 and unlocking her true form once more, she’ll need to learn how to bend the rules and use the System to her advantage. What to expect:•   Slow-burn weak to OP.•   Villainess story with heavy anti-villain and anti-hero vibes throughout (she's a complex person).•   A narrative that expands beyond one simple world and into the greater cosmos.•   Oh and dragons. They're always there, lurking, but they play a much larger role in later books. Volume two now posting.

    Overall Score:
The author uses a handful of common concepts to orchestrate a truly compelling narrative. Combining litRPG, regression, anti-villain, and an ever present System in a refreshing way. From the start the story grips with Aria's clash against a [Hero], how she handles the aftermath is the crux of the story.
    Style score:
Monster's is written from Aria's POV in the first person. The reader gets to enjoy a knowledgeable local protagonist whose internal musings are center focus. Aria has a distinctly dragon-like perspective, which comes to odds with her otherwise human persona. This personality bleeds into the prose, and makes for a rich read.
    Grammar score:
The author wields the digital-pen like a true professional. Few, if any, grammatical errors will threaten to pull you out of the story.
    Story Score:
Aria, and her kingdom, are flawed. Her experience as the [Empress of Dragons] could not have prepared her worse for life as lowly human thief. Worse of it, she retains that dragon ambition, so passionately emboldened by the events in CH1. The story pacing is also excellent; Aria marches forward towards her goals, but never in a straight line.
Challenges, and challengers stand in her way, which she cleverly uses her new System abilities, and progressed power to handle. The story introduces multiple colorful characters who only add, not detract, from the quality.
    Character Score:
Aria, among some others, who I'll leave unnamed for spoiler reasons, are well defined, engaging, richly inspired, cast of characters which bring the story, and its world to life.
The world is dark, and it shows in the descriptions of scenes, and people she meets along the way. Places feel lived in, and heavy moments are treated with the respect, and dignity they deserve.

The author took some of my feedback to heart and changed up some of the earlier chapters, vastly improving the flow and characterization.
Coming back in time after being unjustly killed by the misguided hero Aria(ndre) has to prevent the destruction of her empire and her people, the dragons. Only now as a puny human with her dragon abilities restricted by some system.
This story is dark with some heavy themes and while some of the characterization is not completely to my tastes, I overall think this is a decent story.
I am going to keep adding things here to this review while I read further, but wanted to correct my initial review first, since the edits made me go from "I dropped this story and here is why" to "Its good story and I want to read where it goes".
Original review: I don't think I will continue reading this story. I liked the premise of an empress being unjustly deposed by a misguided hero, but this is not what I have found so far.
Her trusted underlings assault a citizen (herself) after minimal verbal interaction and laugh about her fleeing. Obvious bad guy behavior. She immediately gets assaulted in a public setting with the threat of rape. This escalates until all her attackers are dead. Where are the guards? Why are people like this unimpeded in their very obvious malicious acting? Why are they so confident they will get away with it? Why isn't anyone investigating the screams and violence? And now we get another obvious evil guy who forces his employee to act against her will to spy and steal from his guests for his own perverse satisfaction.
All of this indicates that this society, which she herself created and led, is not just. That crime is running rampant, and citizens, especially women's rights, are nonexistent. This makes me wonder, wasn't the hero right to call her a tyrant? If this is the society she has created, with obscene amounts of wealth yet unable to take basic care of its members, doesn't that make her either incompetent or malicious
