It's just a good time. The tone is very modern, the protagonist Sam's perspective is a lot of fun to read from with many scattered Thoughts and Emotions, and the character writing is great.
It has an interesting explanation for why a System is the way it is that I haven't seen before, and the litRPG side is engaging when it comes into play.
Action scenes are dynamic with a lot of variety, as Sam's capabilities evolve over time and the scenarios around her change. She isn't OP by any means, and not everything goes to plan - this is definitely a story of making the most of the resources at hand in dangerous situations, sometimes making mistakes but sometimes overcoming it with creativity, risk-taking or sacrifices. That's what makes it exciting!
PS the gnomes are the best!

Quite seriously it's magical gril with guns, more guns and even more guns and more hands to hold the more guns.
If you think that statement is nonsensical, then you haven't read the series yet. And you would realize that the only thing scarier than staring down the barrel of a spider girls toothpick is being on the business end of a tinookies kitchen knife.
9.5/10  Great start to an interesting world.

One of the best written stories on Royal Road at the moment. Jarex manages to combine excellent worldbuilding, dialogue, action and character driven plot into a satisfying package.
The story is combination of superhero comics, magical girl shows and urban fantasy in a very grounded manner. Each part of the world feels solidly real while still having a lot of fun with all kinds of magic powers.
The wide combination of magic powers keeps the action fresh and fun, leaving room for victories and losses that aren't simple power comparisons, but functions of the greater plot and world.
It is the character that really tie it all together though, each with a well defined inner world and motivations, they keep everything feeling grounded and real.

Don’t let any element of the tags scare you off. This is well-written, with great characters, dialogue, and world-building.
Genuinely funny and engaging. I want to read lots of books about this character and see an anime series. It’s snappy and intelligent without going clunk.
Almost no typos and will need very little editing.

Its not just a looter shooter litrpg, it has some great moments and the level ups dont feel like the main focus of the story, more like happy little coincidences. Im on chapter 29 right now and I have loved every chapter so far, there is so much potential for world building and character development. give it a try, you wont regret it.

This is a review as of Book 1’s completion.
Trigger Happy- Magical Girl knows how to be happy and how to be weird. There is a manic but loving energy to the story being told as we follow Sam’s first steps through the hidden world beneath the hidden world she already knew. And throughout this first book, I found that joy is the most pervading emotion felt when reading through Sam’s first adventure here.
One of the biggest strengths for Trigger Happy is in its style and characters, and I’ll be talking about both together as they’re tightly interwoven. Sam’s voice is the main one we’re following (though we take the occasional break from it here and there) and she has a strong one. As our titular Trigger Happy Magical Girl, Sam is an honest and kind soul to a fault with imposter syndrome to boot. She’s the type of person who thinks helping others because it makes you feel warm and happy inside makes you (her) a bad person. So her narration is a near endless stream of this love and care with many sprinkles of the self loathing and doubt that haunts her. Her constant striving to do and be good is what makes everything to follow so joy inducing.
Then we get into the cast supporting her. Trigger Happy being the strange world it is, gives us a good amount of strange people to follow and more normal ones as well. The biggest supporting cast member is that of Addy, Sam’s main love interest, who sadly is the only character with a magical girl transformation proper, but more than that ends up feeling a bit more grounded than our MC. She’s a lone wolf (tanuki)  type with all the baggage you expect with a character like that, and ends up being a well realized companion and foil to our MC because of it. After her, there’s a lot of good people and some bad or lame ones which help fill out the world and lets us know how big it is even outside of the relatively small scale Book 1 covers. My favorite example of this is a vampire who drops in, handles some business that Sam gets wrapped

How to start this Review on this most wondrous story? Truly a dilemma.
Ah, then let us go like this:
    *Deep Breath*
Sam is an absolutely normal girl who can hug ghosts into the afterlife and then one day her friend's car, which she's driving, gets hit by a were tanuki and then she finds out magic is a thing and all sorts of other madness inducing things and then the end of the world starts and then she becomes a defender of Earth and then you'll have to find out.
    *Huff Puff Huff Puff*
Ok, that about sums up... the first chapter, and the general concept. Goodness these chappies are long! Which is absolutely wonderful because my goodness have I become addicted to this tale!
I'm going to be honest: I started reading this only because it talked about spiders. I like spiders, many of my fav stories are about them or spider girls or spider people. Then I actually read this book, and dead gods is it well made.
The action is incredibly well written, the fights do not suffer from the typical 'Yeah, she be just dodging left and right and attacking and hoping things go her way while they don't but she always manages to get out of it'. They're actually written, with a protagonist that is not a strangely expert fighter but instead grows better as she goes - as she is forced to - and learns tricks and ways to win even when the odds are stacked against her. And she loses as well. Hoo boy. It just... it feels real and thought out.
Now, as for the characters themselves, we have:
    - Sam, our cinnamon bun who's too good for this world.
    - Tanuki, who needs a therapist and lots of love.
    - Everyone else: honestly, even the bad humans deserve some love. Evil is not just evil for evil's sake.
Grammar is flawless as well. No, really, I've yet to find a single grammatical mistake except for the occasional mistyped letter.
All in all: read this story. It deserves a lot more attention that it has gotten. A true diamond!

This series is absolutely delightful. The setting presents itself as a darker world. It's a grim reality. And our protagonist Sam refuses to accept that. Watching her bring her special brand of chaos and fun into a world that is grossly unprepared for her is great. There are serious moments and we do see character development from multiple places. But overall thus story is just a really fun read.

Who doesn't want a story with a magical spider girl learning that magic both exists, and is awesome. Joy mages are great, just keep smiling and shooting and all your problems will be solved eventually (probably). So excited for the end of book 1 and the beginning of book 2.

It's afun read that sets itself apart enough from similar titles to keep it interesting and as the title said there are some darker moments that keep the story suspenseful without getting to dark. The world building is really interesting with what has been shown without falling into info dumping and I'm exited to see what you do with what you have built up so far. Side characters feel interesting and get built up without leaving our main character to much, however my one complaint is the introduction of the 3 girls from highschool could have been a bit more front loaded because they are kinda hard to remember with everything else happening in the first few chapters and it lessens the impact when I got to try and remember who they are when they reappear. Other than that, everything about this story has been great. Grammar isn't something I really pay attention to but there have been no problems with odd structure or spelling that breaks me out of the story so no issues there. All in all a excellent story with a solid start and good setup for future story lines. I look forward to reading more soon
