- The Random CatRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Why hello Trace, my good friend,
You are like every teenager after a rend,
Quick to shoot things in the head,
But slow to decide on which road you shall head,
But worry not you have plenty of time left,
And have no fear that you shall be bereft,
Of a proper teller for your story,
For MelasD, writer extraordinaire,is writing your story.
The Style is just perfect to tell us about you,
Direct and simple just like you,
Making no allusions to what it is,
Even in the title it is clear in what it is,
And if one misses that still,
One merely has to read the titles to be chill,
And know that it is a Killshot Apocalypse.
The Story is as you know,
So Entertaining and funny that it makes me want to row,
Across the river of time to where the next chapter be towed,
The Grammar is as good I feel,
But it's not like there are real ‘rules’ in the English mill,
But it gives a smooth ride through this fic.
Your Character is perfect like you,
Rebellious and stubborn just like you,
Never backing down even before reason,
Its not like you are committing treason,
It is clear to me who you are,
And why you are,
And the rest is just the plot,
And the circumstances you brought,
Upon you with that gun of yours.
So be assured as you load your gun,
That this fic is full of fun! - D. FotheringhamRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0First of: thisis worth reading. Trace is fun, Im' enjoying it, I will keep reading it.
My issue remains: Civilisation falls apart when the system appears for no reason.
In most System apoc's, it's because monsters appear the moment the system goes live! Technology stops working!
None of that happened -
1. people just got classes and magic powers
2. ???
3. Civilisation collapses! The internet goes down! everyone quits their jobs! Anarchy in the streets!
I want to know what step 2 was! - HeatheniaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's a pretty simple story, so far. I like the main character a lot, just cause it's nice to have a protagonist that isn't so typical. I think the series of events make sense too. The world is falling apart cause there are monsters, and because people are constantly fighting each other. And yeah, that's pretty much it. It's only 24 chapters so far, but it's enjoyable.
- powered_by_coffeeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Melas does it again with an awesome, apocalyptic guns+girls combo!
Characters:
The main character Trace is a very spunky/rowd/stubborn girl, which I really enjoy since both my wife and daughter are the same attitude-wise. As soon as Trace meets an alien [who's trying shape-shifting 'diplomacy' on her] she pistol-whips him and pretty much murders her tutorial enemy with her gun without even bothering to choose a class. She also swears whenever she likes.
Story: five outta five, would roam in apocalyptic cities and fight monsters!
This is a super interesting backstory point some early reviewers have missed since it's in multiple languages in news broadcasts in chapter 3 ->
I've translated them with google language tools and basically:
dungeons appear everywhere
monsters appear
multiverse transit gates appear everywhere
hundreds die trying to investigate one dungeon
More than a billion people vanish
A billion people vanishing from jobs and not returning would almost instantly collapse the world's economy and cause mass starvation, shortages and chaos, since trade/nuclear power/planes/internet and almost 99% of high tech being run by a few specialists rely on highly trained professionals doing their jobs constantly. The most basic case of this is with New York subway which has to pump water out nonstop or many lines will get flooded and destroyed. Basically, our society is held together with ducktape and wires and is upkept by very smart, talented maintenance personell and if 1/7th of these specialists vanish, we'd be fucked due to the domino collapse effect Chernobyl style.
Even without considering the tech side, 1/7th of the population vanishing would be catastrophic in terms of global happiness/stability - countless people would likely commit suicide/spiral into depression due to being suddenly separated from their loved ones. I know people who lost their wife/husband/child and it's not pretty. Do you think depression doesn't affect people's job preformance? In 24 Ma - cdr_whiteRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Usually, I wait for the first main story arc to finish before I review a story. However, this one got so many bad reviews which, in my opinion, are a bit unfair. So I decided to start a bit early with this review.
The story is about a stubborn main character who gets thrown into a post-apocalyptic earth with a "system" forced down the throats of everyone and unlike most LitRPG main characters who go "It's sad that my world went to hell but - Yeah Levels, cool!", she doesn't play along. So, she is "a brat with an attitude" as someone said in an earlier review. I used to be similar, so maybe that is why I like her so much.
Other reviewers criticize the characters as cliché or stereotypical. But actually, they look more like the typical characters in most other LitRPGs, seen from the perspective of the stubborn main character. And they are not static but they are evolving as the story progresses.
Ican't really judge the language, as I am not a native speaker. But it is an easy read and I don't spot any grammatical errors or typos.
I would love to read more of Trace and I hope that all that negativity doesn't stop the author from continuing the story. - One-eyed MikeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm greatly enjoying this.
I like the main character, who has a couple of personal issues. Her class is offbeat for the LitRPG style, as is her vocation. She can get hurt, which is a sign of realism.
We see some of the usual confusion stemming from the apocalyptic situation, and it seems to be worked out more naturally than others are.
I like the system voice in her head, which has developed an interesting quirk. He's not just the voice in her head...
I also like the fact that the first Big Monster is not just a monster. But a mystery.
And villains are not always villains.
A good start by an experienced author. - TheOldLord10256Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Its pretty good...
Try it out for a few chapters as the beginning is kinda slow but it kicks into a decent gear pretty quickly.
It has a decent spin on the system trope so that should be also good for you to find out about.
Review needs more words so just read it as the writer is a decent writer all around so you will most likely like it if you have read anything else by them and wandered over to this book. - Nameless32Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Do you know what I think this site is sorely missing? You might have thought I was going to say guns, but really it's rebellious british teens who aren't afraid to use them.
Killshot Apocalypse is one of the first stories I've seen to use a gun-wielding protagonist, and it gets there in a way that's much more relevant to the protagonist's personality than most class choices. When you hit the end of chapter 2, you can truly feel the emotion building up towards the big release.
The author writes in a way thats reminiscent of YA novels, but also stories like Tower of Somnus and Iron Prince. If you've read either of those and enjoyed them, you'll probably like this one too.
The sheer spunk of the protagonist is also something I have to give them credit for. A lot of the time we're given either an uber-powerful confident MC or a weak unconfident one, but rarely do we see someone at the bottom with this amount of attitude. (And I mean that in the best of ways.)
The fights are punchy, the prose runs smooth. I also haven't seen any Typos Here hehehehe.
Overall, definitely an underrated story. If you're into system apocalypses or just the idea of gunslinging british teens with attitude, give it a try! - Natasha Velkirk (Zach or Zach)Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I was notably dissatisfied with my previous review, and thus have decided to rewrite it, I hope this is more useful.
The first big issue. Characters. The main character is a bit of a brat sometimes, though I personally wouldn't say it's all that unreasonable. She generally comes across as though she's grumpy at most everything, but still helps out when asked, or she feels it important for her to do so. The grumpiness seems... Understandable, if not likeable, given the pieces of her backstory we have. It's not a great picture, but it's clear enough to say that it was unpleasant, and again, that her grumpiness is understandable, though fair enough if you dislike it.
The side characters are fairly whatever. Her best friend acts like a stereotypical protagonist, and Adair is at least amusing, if a really weird character to turn around in attitude so quickly. Its weird, and kind of a disruptive feeling.
The story, or really the story concept is the thing that I get people being upset at the most. It's consistently ridiculous. Personally, I don't mind too much, and even find it mildly amusing, but it is weak in terms of realism. One of the greatest problems is that it fails to suspend disbelief very much at all. By setting it in our world, and the general way the reveal of the fact that a whole bunch of nutty LARPers have become the strongest people on Earth, it feels more silly than anything, which contrasts with the rest of the story.
I cannot remember any notable gramatic errors.
The style is fine, I always understood what the author wanted to get across.
In the end, while this story is definitely worth a shot, it unfortunately wouldn't surprise me if you drop it. It's good, but has glaring issues, which makes me sad that so many people dog piled hate on this as I think it had decent potential, and I'm pretty sure only a single chapter has been written in the past two months, and the story had good potential. Whether it returns or not, it deserves a little love. - Mental_ForgeRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Good story, plenty of potential. A lot of people are complaining about stupid shit in the reviews. Stating that the MC's a bitch to everyone, when she is only ever a bitch to people she has good reason to believe are assholes, or people that are asking her to risk her life. Both are perfectly understandable, and the latter case isn't even anything excessive. She makes sure her A.I. knows she doesn't really mean it or is just joking whenever she's mean to it. Other than that, I suppose I wish she'd be a little less hesitant, but I get that she's a normal, well adjusted person in a not-so-normal world that she has to readjust to. Also, characters are a little bland, but what I've read of MelasD leads me to believe that's just a matter of time. Story's still in its infancy, after all.
