- AurathasRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Grammar: There were no grammar or spelling issues that I ran into.
Style: The writing style is very descriptive and straightforward, at no point are you going to feel confused or lost as to what is going on. The writer does not waste time with pointless prose that has nothing to do with the story or the characters, which allows the story to flow very well and makes you want to keep reading. It is not uncommon for writers in this genre to get bogged down in unnecessarily verbose descriptions of their systems to the point where you just end up skimming through the story or just dropping it entirely, but that isn’t an issue you are going to run into here.
Story: So far, the story has been very fast-paced with a nice twist to the standard Isekai and system tropes. There is little time wasted as the action kicks off very quickly and just keeps on going, keeping me engaged the entire time. Also, very curious where the dual-system and other isekai-ed individuals are going to go.
Character: As much as I enjoy the plot, my favorite aspect of this story is the MC. I absolutely love that she is willing to negotiate like it is a job interview rather than simply blindly taking the magical offer from someone she doesn’t know and has no way of trusting, doing everything she can in her position to make sure that she isn’t taken advantage of.
Highly recommended. - StarswornAdminRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0When I first read the title "Fighting Monsters in Another World" I thought I would be in for a stock-standard monster-fighting isekai. And in all the best ways, that's exactly what I found. What surprised me, however, was the thoughtfully implemented system, unique take on magic, and a character I'm excited to support.
Style - The author writes in a way that is generally direct and accessible. They build tension through the use of well-paced action sequences and well-designed chapter breaks. It's light, easy to read, and offers the classic litRPG crunch without going too over-the-top.
Story - Again, the plot is exactly what you'd expect it to be from the title. That's not a bad thing! We quickly get introduced to the action as our main character Kalysto is thrust into danger. We go alongside her as she fights enemies, gains a class, and does her best to navigate eldritch deals, dangerous enemies, and the potion cooldown! It's fun and fast-paced, which I've very much enjoyed.
Grammar - Overall grammar is good. A couple places where sentences (I'm assuming due to translation) get a bit clunky, but rarely enough of an issue to detract from enjoyment.
Character - Kalysto at this point can read a little flat at times, though the glimpses into her mind as she figures out the world around her are great! I think her circumstances have made her relatable and likeable, and it's been neat to see her develop. Slowly but surely, we're also being introduced to a cohort of new characters, some antagonistic while others are more mysterious. Plenty to like!
Overall, this is a well put together story that will scratch the monster-fighting itch. I'm glad I've gotten a chance to read it, and I hope you'll make the time too! - BCD051Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I’ve really enjoyed this, there is a lot of intrigue and moving parts which actually works pretty well, as each part is very distinct instead of tropey carbon copies. Also, the author makes a concerted effort to edit chapters in order to make them as good as they can be. I look forward to continuing to read this, because I’m quite enjoying it.
- Luci ReapsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Story has an intriguing beginning, the action starts quick and doesn't let up. However it doesn't feel fast paced, with time given to establishing the characters their motives and dynamics between each other.
Grammar: So first of all, I know I get nervous when I see a story that says english is not their native tongue, but their simply are no problems here beyond what you might expect of a native english speaker.
Style: There is a certain flair about the story and I appreciate the choice to use text instead of the actual floating blue boxes which I find garish and annoying and just hard to read at the best of times.
Character: The characters so far feel diverse and interesting, I hope the author takes time to expand the depths of their characters as it is just the beginning of the story its hard to really comment on how complex the characters are.
Story: The story is by far the best part, it has a very different from standard hero selection and summoning. Along with their class being different from the common trappings of litrpgs. Im very excited to see what twists and turns get presented going forward because every new detail is fascinating to examine.
Overall just a very enjoyable story that I have no serious complaints about. - Marco HeerdinkRoyal Road★★ 2.0I started reading this and thought it was a nice read. But along the way, it read like a girl power thing. That should not be that bad, but this was, in my opinion, your typical..... MC (girl) can do anything and all the male characters are rather useless. You might call it woke. Not that i like that word, but to me, this was a typical woke story. So, basically, dropped it after around 50 chapters. Might be better from then on, but i couldn't be bothered to read more.
- Ascended RaccoonRoyal Road★★ 2.0The author feels the need to vomit out world building all at once in the first 9 chapters, telling rather than showing. The author has also made an intensely unlikable female MC with “trauma”… who shoves her trauma in your face via internal monologue and random thoughts, again, telling rather than showing.
THERE ARE NO REAL SPOILERS BELOW OR ANYTHING THAT COULD RUIN THE PLOT OR STORY.
People with trauma also don’t act remotely in the way the MC is depicted to act. People don’t fixate on their trauma in crisis scenarios, especially calmly and collectedly. People don’t stop in the middle of fighting off a group of literal monsters that literally fell from the sky to reflect on their childhood trauma, they don’t stop, knife in hand, to reflect on how awful someone is acting while they’re fighting a literal monster to save that individual. People don’t, in the middle of being maimed and murdered by a literal monster, reflect on how their lifeline could potentially be a sex trafficker. People don’t, in the middle of being maimed and murdered by a monster reflect on their current life nor did they have time to wonder if a magic tattoo is permanent and somehow equate that to bruises left by a child abuser. People also don’t tend to pack up their sole weapon into a backpack in a crisis event; untrained people will hold onto weaponry with a death grip when they’re in mortal terror.
A character with trauma should make you feel sympathy and empathy with said character, should be an explanation for their personality and some actions. It should NOT be shoved down a readers throat at every opportunity in every other paragraph couple with quite frankly arrogant and narcissistic behavior on the part of said character. It makes them unlikable, and far worse than unlikable, unbelievable. Also, her name is ridiculous, and while people with ridiculous names do in fact exist, the MC’s name is particularly awful to read over and over again. - PxslRoyal Road★ 1.0Awkward pacing in the first 5 chapters where there’s bursts of events in between excessive dialogue, then a full chapter where nothing happens, then two extremely dragged out fights that are carbon copies of each other except that one has 2 enemies instead of 1. Then MC ignores tremors and a firefly telling her to run (from a portal that spawns monsters nonetheless) and ends up in a bad situation (foot broken by a big bad Orc) for no reason. Now I know she’ll get out of it because of plot armor but I don’t even want to read it because it feels like I’ve read it a hundred times before.
At least the story leads with its issues instead of becoming worse over time…? - Pro2aEMSRoyal Road★ 0.5This series needs to have a multiple lead characters tag… this series literally takes 9 chapters just to get started and even then it didn’t truly begin. The author is literally all over the place with the series. The beginning was like a bad acid trip talking to her friend Alice and then things just spiralled out of control down, down and down. The series kept introducing people and seeing things from their angle all the while the true MC is doing unrealistic battle sequences and making demands as they about to die. The whole series seems so convoluted and confusing and the “isekai” portion didn’t even begin! Emotions were stretched and so far out in left field that no one seemed real. The author wasn’t able to pull the reader into the world. It truly lacked world building and the characters even those that didn’t matter seemed extremely one dimensional and flat. The synopsis really got me excited too! It’s just a shame that the actual story didn’t deliver at all. I’m trying not to bash the story, because authors give it their all and out themselves out there for our entertainment and I truly appreciate the effort, but at the same time this just fell extremely short. Maybe it’s for YOU and just not for ME. Give it a chance. At least 10 chapters… I couldn’t read it anymore after ten… it was too painful for me. But I wasn’t the only one having lots of issues… but some did appreciate and enjoy it. Maybe you’ll be one of those people that love it! Check it out for yourself!
