Description
Stabbing can fix everything. Even the past. With a one-way ticket to the past, Rey is determined to get his revenge by killing the second-most powerful demon in Hell, who just so happens to be his Patron. Easy. Except Fate is a vindictive dick with a PhD in cosmic gaslighting. No matter how many ‘good’ decisions Rey makes, the future seems determined to play out the same way, right down to the heartbreak. Armed with the knowledge of the future, gravitational skills, a sharp tongue, and a burning desire to kick destiny in the dangly bits, Rey wants his revenge even if it kills him. Again. What to expect in this Hellhole: Regressing through time to do it all over again Demons with bad hygiene Sarcasm as a survival skill Death glares. Some from demons. Mostly from his allies An unhealthy relationship with revenge Romance with one girl only. He's exclusive like that Enemies and Allies constantly questioning whyhe’sthe protagonist. The MC is absolutely fantastic and although he is amazing he lets the other characters shine next to him through because of him being so generous while also providing some good exposition

- LaqeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have been following this novel for a while now, and I can say for certain that this is one of the best uses of modern comedy that I've seen so far.
The characters feel like they are actually from Earth, making references and jokes about different things. They don't magically forget all about Earth and only refer to it when it's useful to mention. Their thought processes seem human enough, even with Rey being a psychopath. While I don't feel like the characters are that fleshed out, I think we'll get their backstories eventually.
The progression is fantastic; Rey progresses through his ranks like a crazy person, only ever using his regression info to help his fellow humans and to vaguely plan for the future. Other than that, he just goes with the flow, going from one goal to the next, making multitudes of mistakes as he progresses. He doesn't feel perfect; he feels human. - goldrootsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Full disclosure: I was one of the beta readers for this book.
I've read the book in its entirety and know what is going to happen so, I must say it's going to be one hell of a ride. (pun intended).
Style: The author has a certain style that brings out Rey's character in a way that makes you want to follow his story. Pacing is also done well in the sense that dialogue and exposition work well with each other. Exposition doesn't feel like its dragging on and the characters are not overly talking too much about random things.
Story: True to the blurb, the story is a slow-burn but it doesn't mean its boring. There isn't a chapter that goes by that made me want to put down the story. The grim humor works well for the setting and shows what the character has been through.
Character: Rey is an intriguing character. His past in Hell has certainly changed him and it shows especially with his Rey vs Demon Rey interactions, which is fun and is a fresh way of showing Rey's past.
Grammar: There are no glaring issues with grammar.
Overall, it's a really fun story that will no doubt will keep you entertained for long. - koalaidRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Helldiver is a story that I didn't know I was looking for. The story starts with a bang and continues delivering, whether it be the development of the plot, the MC's snark and sarcasm or the world itself that is slowly coming to light with each chapter.
Style: The author's style is light and easy to read. There are not many overly convoluted words that would break the flow or would make the reader stop and google them. The scenes and action flow easily and are easy to picture in your head.
Story: The story is about Rey gets sent back in time and has redo everything again. Rey's joking demeanor keeps things light despite the grim surroundings the characters find themselves in.
Character: The MC is the one carrying the story while the side characters are also slowly coming to light. Overall, the MC is well written and his motivation is rather clear. Revenge, changing the timeline to save people. He’s understandable and relatable.
Grammar: There are little things here and there that don't break immersion.
Overall, I feel like this is a nicely written story that I would recommend to people who enjoy action and adventure books. - Kyley175Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I thought this was going to be about the popular game made by Arrowhead Game Studio but instead of being about guys getting dropped into metaphorical hell it is about a guy getting dropped into literal hell. My disappointment is immesurable and my day is ruined. 0 out of 10 would recommend.
- FMFalloutRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The story is pretty interesting and the writing is good. But I've noticed two reoccurring issues. 1) it's babysitting NPCs. They mess up and he has to help them. That would make sense, except they all seem to keep dying. Given that they are supposed to live or he dies and they haven't even left the first area and already half the party is either dead, betrayers, or demons who ran off... it's just kinda meh. 2) There is a LOT of snarky exposition and repetitive narrative. It's slightly different each time but it's the same scenario over and over again worded slightly differently but with another dead NPC and a sparky comment at the end. It all makes sense in the fast paced, i just got thrown into hell, what do you do in hell? Kind of way. I'm sure it's quite enjoyable to a certain kind of readership. Which is why I still rated it as high as I did.
I'd have loved it if there was a sort of training montage or something that was sufficiently informative enough to keep people alive or hell not had so many people turn into demons and betrayers so quickly. Again good read for some. I wish the author a large viewership but I'm out. - GekyumeRoyal Road★★★ 2.5Relies on skyrim railroading logic of ops do bad thing, Mc let's them go because her der, until the story kills the bad guy. Then new enemy and rinse and repeat. Author here at least kind of tries to make it make sense with one of them,
Completely gives up on trying to make sense with Tia though.
It's just rage baiting as the main hook. - Don ObyRoyal Road★ 1.0For a story with so much potential, the MC is the truly the worst part, a disappointing try hard who thinks he's funnier than he is. Armed with inconsistent knowledge of the future, casual racism against Indians, and a thesaurus's worth of cheesy swears and verbose, lame quips he says at every opportunity, our protagonist hacks and slashes through the denizens of hell, one d*** joke at a time. The rest of the story literally is decent, with enough creativity to make it interesting and fun, and the author can write well; the MC is just genuinely mid to trash as a person and not even in an fun, evil way. I'm not sure what he even wants besides power and revenge, which is fine except he's too busy trying to be a "good guy" and protect his companions, while also being completely indifferent to their deaths which he remembers more about than functions of the system he's used for decades. The character's inconsistent and remains so throughout. I'm not sure if this is intentional and he experiences character growth but first impression matter and Rey gives a terrible one. Other characters are also superficial and accessories to Rey's grating antic, worst of all Kassi, the seeming romantic interest who just can't get enough of Rey's 5th grade jokes. Maybe they all get better with time. I really hope they do, both the characters and the jokes. If you can grit your teeth and bear it, the story has a lot of cool action and detailed descriptions, with a plot that promises dangerous adventure and bloody revenge.
Edited: tried reading more and I think the MC just gets worse actually. Would not recommend
