- Brandon CarterRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5For something written by a teenager, this is really good!
Style - The author has a great voice. It reads well and progresses quite logically and fluidly. Words and sentence structure are varied and interesting. It's light-hearted where it needs to be, but the heavy portions need some polish. The drama reads a bit over the top, melodramatic, but not in a way that's bad. More like as a writer than just needs a bit more experience.
Grammar - No problems here. Well done.
Story - A nice, slow build. Even though the opening seemingly has little to do with the real plot, it didn't turn me off. We get to see the real-life problems of a teenage boy mixed in with the otherworldly problems of fantasy. A nice mixture. Again, the drama seems melodramatic at times, and certain points need to be drawn out a bit more, but its fine. There's little context for the rise of the antagonist, and that's the main reason for the deduction along with the melodrama.
Character - It's still early, but I like our MC. He's young, and naive, and burdened with typical teenager problems. We don't see much of anyone else, but I feel like the love interest is a bit odd and undefined early on. Be nice to see some interaction with her BEFORE the big twist hits.
A great beginnning! This has the potential to be a very interesting story, and I think others will really enjoy it.
