- FunamoriRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've been reading through the chapters so far and the story is a really fun one. Checking it out on and off during school, it's a really fun isekai that has engaged me in a way a lot of ones I've read before didn't.
I even made an account just to rate it! I'm a big fan of monster focused stories so this is a really fun setting, and the story is getting better as it goes on too! - Henrik SaetreRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Title: A Portal to Adventure with Heart
OVERALL SCORE: 5/5 Stars
This book is a pleasant surprise. It's not just another portal fantasy; it's a journey that dives deeper and has a much stronger motivation for the character than usual. The progression from the first chapter to the fifth is impressive, setting the stage for a rich and enveloping tale.
STYLE SCORE: 5/5
The author's style is a evolves rapidly over the initial chapters. It’s a style that’s growing, deepening, and promises an immersive experience as the author finds his feet.
GRAMMAR SCORE: 3/5
The grammar had a rocky start with several issues early on, but there’s a clear improvement as the chapters progress. The initial hiccups are noticeable but become less frequent, showing the author's growing command over the story’s language. I still want to give the story a 5 star rating, because this is something that can easily be fixed by doing a run-through of the earlier chapters. I perceive the author's skills has progressed substantially from there.
STORY SCORE: 5/5
The story is the crowning glory of this book. It's fun, filled with creative world-building, and there’s potential in every chapter. 'My Tao of Monsters' brings a fresh breath to the isekai genre, focusing on a protagonist whose motivation is not just personal growth or survival or omg lets have fun in this new world, but he has a desperate drive to reunite his family in an unfamiliar, monstrous world. With a lovely drop of pokemon feeling to it all :)
CHARACTER SCORE: 4.5/5
There’s a lot of room for character growth, which is exciting. The protagonist feels grounded, someone with realistic reactions thrown into an extraordinary situation. His deep connection to his past life and the emotional depth that comes with it adds layers to his personality. The characters are not just fun but have the potential to evolve into memorable figures within the genre.
In short, this story is a breath of fresh air for fans of portal fantasies, if you can get th - NocturneKoanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Full disclosure, I'm a friend of the author's, but don't let that stop you from taking this review seriously. I was actually hesitant to review to begin with, because the first couple of chapters were quite dense, but once I got through those, I was hooked.
I will encourage anyone who isn't quite certain whether this story is for them, to give it another chapter or two before making that decision.
My favourite thing about this story so far has to be the worldbuilding, especially the actual monster descriptions. They, and the world surrounding them both, are incredibly vivid and easy to imagine. I'm looking forward to seeing more of these as I continue to read. - Smiley_MischiefRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Been reading this since the first chapters and enjoying it a lot! The family dynamics are fun and add a nice layer of political intrigue to the story. A big fan of problems that can’t be solved with brute force and the creative approach taken to solving them.
Fun creature designs are my jam and there are so many great ones here~ From cute to monstrous, there’s awesome variety. No spoilers on my favorite one, buuut some lil critters are sweet like honey~
All in all, definitely a recommended read for fans of monster taming and another world fantasy stuff!
