Disclaimer: This review is for a review/comment swap with the author. I have read over 10,000 words.
While writing this review I wavered between an overall score of 3.5 vs a 4. The main reason for this was due to my conflicting opinions on the style vs story.
The style(and grammar) is the lowest score because as one fellow commenter said, "it feels like a translation". I do not know if that is the case or if english is a second language. Quite frankly if it is, then the author writes better than most native speakers. However compared to the quality of other stories on RR (both native/non native speaking writers) I found it has a quality that I did not enjoy.
A non spoiler example: "After this mission, I'm going to request a substantial break. The crown prince should find the information I obtained quite satisfactory."
You can see that everything is written correctly, but the stylistic word choice is a bit off putting and not limited to the example.
Now that is out of the way, let's talk about what I loved.
I liked the premise introduced into the story. Multiple conflicts were set up for the MC to overcome and along with the clash of having to navigate a new world, there is a promising set up for adventure. The characters are decent too, given that they not only have established external conflicts, but internal conflicts that make for good development and growth.
At the end, I decided this story merits a 4, because though the style can be polished, the story provides a solid backbone.
