Snake, Scarab, & Sons: Purveyors of Fine T

Description

Being the eldest child is difficult, even as a summoner with three spirits bound and a magically talented brother.  If anything, the magically talented brother makes it worse.

The finest chain of tea houses across two continents is about to expand to open adjacent inns, and one would think Henry Atractas, the eldest “son” of the owner, would focus all his energy into the family business’ expansion, but having a younger half-brother constantly embarking on random adventures instead of waiting at the tea house -like their aunt/mother said- means less tea and more making sure Ash doesn’t get himself killed.

Ash’s adventures dragging the unwilling Henry earn them a reputation not as purveyors of fine tea or heirs to an international trading company, but as the go-to pair to recover lost artifacts.

Snake, Scarab & Sons: Purveyors of Fine T...and apparently a bunch of other stuff no else can get.

It is always a joy reading this author's books, the consistent themes of family and adventure makes for great happy reading. The two brothers seem very interesting and the idea of random archaeological adventures is a great hook. The magic system with the use of magic items seems worth exploring too.
I'm really hoping that the antagonists will put up more of a fight in this serial compared than the ones in the previous book. I'm really hoping for enemies that are not flat and only possess negative traits. Villains that possess redeeming qualities and relatable motives would be great

I have generally high expectations for this story, given that I both enjoyed the other stories this author has made and I liked the first two chapters. I would be genuinely shocked if this story was bad. I particularly thought that the characters of previous books were fully fleshed out, and am looking forward to the same process being applied to the characters we have been introduced to.

By far one of the best novels I've read in RR. It's a fantasy and adventure story about the members of a family of merchants with an interesting background. But what really makes this story shine are its characters and their interactions. You really get caught up in that family dynamic and that love between the family, without forgetting about the adventure and world building. English is not my first language.

Family drama, pompous royalty, high stakes adventures at sea and magic! What more could you want?
This story is simply incredible, I love both the brothers, and all the characters are so well written. The world is incredibly interesting, and so are their backstories! I can't wait to read more :)

Caveat: I've been reading the story on Patreon and, at point of writing this review, have read all 13 chapters that are currently available on Patreon.
So far, the story is starting slowly with small adventures of the Second Young Master and his older brother. The starting setting is the Atractas merchant family situated at the world's foremost trading harbor and the tea house (called "Snake, Scarab, and Sons") which they run there amongst other businesses. The family is part of a diaspora and started building up their fortune with long distance trades in magical items but then branched out into other activities, including the tea house. With their background in long distance trades, all members of the family are well traveled, highly educated and equipped with a penchant for adventure but also rely on and care deeply for their family bonds. I should probably mention that they're quite overpowered as well. The first young master is a little more the responsible older child, the second young master is a little more of the quirky trouble maker but in the end both do their business duties and both run off on an adventure when possible.
Those first 13 chapters on Patreon cover the first 3 (or 4, depending on how you count) little adventures that get the two Young Masters and their world introduced. Right now it feels a bit like short episodes but there's already a hint of larger conflicts starting to brew and I assume the main story will take off soon. The major supporting characters from the family all have made an appearance, the world setting has been exposed. There's also a good likelihood that the main antagonist has already been introduced. Not sure whether any more characters for an adventuring party will be needed, characterful summons have filled the gaps so far.
The story telling does remind me a bit of mid-eastern story-telling. Sure, there's the whole "Young Masters" thing and spell slips but aside of that the story telling feels slow, unhurried. There's not

I started reading on Royal Road because my husband introduced me to Tori Transmigrated.  I loved it and couldn't wait for the next chapters to come out.  I even loved all the after stories. The entire thing was well plotted with lots of fun surprises as the story unfolded.
Next came The Wicked House of Caroline.  While I'll admit I didn't like it as much as Tori, it was still very enjoyable.  It just didn't seem quite as well plotted as Tori.  A few of the twists and turns seemed more off the cuff and didn't seem to flow as well with the rest of the story.  However, it was still one of the best things I have read on Royal Road.
When Snake, Sacrab, and Sons: Purveyors of fine T came out I wasn't sure about the blurb.  It seemed like it would be more of a family adventure story that what I liked.  I eventually decided to try it only because of the author.  I was so impressed!  It was an amazing example of world building, politics, and power.  I realized very shortly after starting that there was way more than I expected.
The story has been very enjoyable so far.  I love leaning more and more about the characters. I also love seeing characters added as we go who have long term relationships with the main character.  Every chapter is a new facet of the overall story.  I can tell that like Tori this has been intricately plotted.
I can't wait to see what happens next.

Really enjoying this one. It’s fun, well written, with interesting characters and world build. I liked this author’s Tori, but dropped Caroline early as was darker in style and tone than I prefer.
Author does a good job with most of the backstory, world and culture unfolding within the story rather than as info dumps.  A very few back flash backs seem a bit out of place or a bit like an info dump rather than good story flow. Story has good pacing, even the side quest adding to the overall all plot with new characters and situations contributing to the plot or revealing more about the main characters, rather than being this week’s episode in a series. Looses 1/2 a star as it took me several chapters to connect with characters and feel grounded in the plot.  Part of this might have been the description made me think this would be the older brother’s story and we start from the younger brother’s perspective.  It really is a multi lead character story.  With multiple points of view. It is tag for multiple leads. Don’t know if that changed or I missed it.  I did not pick that up from the description that it would not basically be Henry’s story, with a supporting ensemble.  I like both types.  Not sure if realizing this would have helped me connect to the story faster. But I am hooked now and look forward to each update. Highly recommend!
I can’t comment on grammar and typos as I don’t catch those easily.

The story drops you in with no build up. The main characters are over-powered, and the reveals are fast paced and not well hidden. I got several chapters in, and was introduced to the antagonists who don't have enough depth or build up to really feel antagonistic. They are also getting away with what comes across as an bold faced lie that only works in their own country where it is implied they suppress education and outside influence. Then, the main characters defy them when no one else does, while frequently citing maritime law which other countries and so forth should also have information about. It doesn't have the care that other novels by this writer display, which is disappointing.
