Description

FIRST THREE BOOKS WRITTEN Welcome to the Aetherios System, where the quests are mandatory and failure results in deletion! Alex Pierce thought the worst part of military life was eating stale MREs and getting screamed at by people who loved pushups more than oxygen. He was wrong. Caught in a nuclear blast and dumped into a world of magic, Alex and eleven other soldiers find themselves in a reality where stats rule, The System gives no mercy, and Alex discovers bigger problems than simple rations and the childhood trauma of living in his twin brother’s shadow. Problems like: - Forest badgers with bodybuilding addictions and very personal grudges. - A kobold village too dumb for diplomacy. - One cantankerous apothecary witch. - Smug elves. - And an undead dungeon that didn’t get the memo about staying dead. His fellow Isekai’d soldiers are a disaster, his power build is ruined thanks to one little magical oopsie, and his closest “ally” might be an evil talking river pebble. (It swears it isn’t evil. He’s not convinced.) The System doesn’t care if Alex is confused, terrified, or quietly crumbling under self-doubt. It only cares if he proves himself worthy to exist. Prove yourself or be erased. No pressure. Chapters released every M/W/F! Shoutout toLitRPG Books FB Groupfor being awesome.

As I said in the title. I think this is a fantastic read so far. I have been having a lot of fun following this story each day.
Loving Alex’s adventure so far. He feels complicated and grounded and I find myself rooting for him the more I read.
The stats and system look are unique enough that I find it interesting, but familiar enough to other LitRPG stories that I’m not lost in how it works. Which is a hard line to straddle, and yet this story is pulling it off.
There are various humorous moments peppered throughout, and the jokes land relatively well. Garret does a lot of heavy lifting in this department, but even Alex’s inner thoughts sometimes stick the landing in this regard.
The side characters are distinct so far and stand out when contrasted to Alex. They don’t have any super depth to them, but with such a large number of people, I’m gonna give it more time to see how they are handled and developed.
Only a tiny few typos so far. This story reads well. And as other have said before, the prose quality is top tier.
If you enjoy Progression LitRPG or Cultivation, it looks like this might be a story to keep your eye on. I certainly will be.

An absolute blast of a series. With an interesting world, funny characters, and almost zero contrived plot points, it's a worthy read. With all its highs and lows, but all in all, if you have a reading comprehension above the 9th grade, you will be able to understand the story... After book 2, I realized that might be a bit too high a bar for people.😭 Give it a go and enjoy the adventures of Tom Tom and the rest... The author claims the M.C. is some guy named Alex... I disagree.

I am picky in regards to the system novels I enjoy reading. I've torn through this one relatively quickly though because I feel it is carried by the quality of the prose. Though there may be at times some weird grammar or flow, that's to be expected for royal road often. More importantly, I enjoy the words and language used: Often simple but with good descriptors here and there that bring places to life. One improvement I would note is environmental descriptors, environments sometimes feel like they fade into the background easily.
I am enjoying the narrative so far, and I'm very curious to see how it unfolds in the long term. I believe the characters could do with some refinement as the way they're written makes them feel like they come more from the current day than the 'far future' as setup in the story. The bigger concern for me with the other non-MC characters is the feeling that some of them could do with a bit more bones? Hopefully this is just another thing that gets more depth over time.
I do believe no matter what that this is a rather promising story! If you enjoy characters who need to push for their success and rise against the odds it's definitely set up to do that well, it's not power fantasy but the MC is resilient and quick to action. The narration gives a good idea of how the MC views the world and I enjoy the characterization there. I do not have much to say on the system elements as I do not read system novels often, though I do feel this one is adding decently to the characterization and questions about the world, especially wondering why the system itself seems so oppressive.
I intend on keeping up with chapters as they release over time, and I will refine this review as I do so.

The main character has main character syndrome, Alex is constantly making decisions despite not being charge of his unit, nothing in the narrative explains this. It's a shame as the story of two opposing squads dropped into this wilderness had potential I just can no longer stay immersed. It's a cool world being built for anyone who doesn't have this trouble.

This is novel was great, in terms of setting, and decent in terms of plot. I was interested by the magic system, which seemed the focus, as it seemed the only unique thing about the standard System progression power system. The initial premise of two squads of soldiers from two warring countries isekai’d into the ‘beginner’ area, set to progress up the tiers hooked me. But what eventually caused me to drop this was the illogical…plot choices? character choices? that the author made. It doesn’t make sense that a soldier freezes up and doesn’t know what to do whenever confronted attacked. It doesn’t make sense that he feels guilt for killing a ‘sentient’ kobold, but none for killing humans. Sure, you can blame that on his fire affinity, but then when he comes back to find his comrades hostage, why doesn’t he murder Kate and her goons? For that matter, why did Kate keep her prisoners alive for days, when she was determined that passing the quest and proving ‘worthy’ required offing her opps? It can’t have taken days to get some new info about stats, right?
It’s little things like that, which broke my immersion and lead me to drop this. There’s a remarkable lack of killing, for a novel based on soldier killing to advance up tiers. I wasn’t a fan of the ever present trope of using ‘wanting to go home’ as a motivator for cultivating up. I also didn’t see the need for chapters to show the kobolds as innocent and simplistic creatures. It all just feels contrived, rather than natural.
