Description
What would YOU do if you had six months to prepare before you were Isekai'd?The Resonance Cycle is a fast-paced, LitRPG series (once you get through the portal). It features a protagonist who must face nearly-overwhelming odds and use his wits, creativity, and drive to succeed.
“You have been randomly selected to fight for your world. Prove yourself and your loved ones may survive the Resonance. In precisely six months a portal will open for three minutes. It will appear wherever you are located. No other sentient being may go through that portal with you. This offer will not come again.”The words appeared on Ty's computer, followed by a series of images - books he'd read, world's he explored. How would they shape his adventures to come?

- ActionHero415Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0So first thing about this story - I loved how it wasn't your typical 'I woke up on some world where I didn't have a clue where I was, got attacked by 'MONSTER NAME' and almost died. This one has a build up. There is something refreshing about a timer about to go off, and actually choosing to go into it. That's what made Ready Player One and Awaken Online so great, players actually chose to enter worlds. This one is a similar line as that, but with more at stake.
Style - I like the writing and dialog. The characters are deep and have a lot to offer, including good relationships and pros/cons.
Grammar - seemed like a lot of issues were taken care of from the comments I saw, but upon my reading, I didn't see anything that was a problem. The chapters can get a bit lengthy, however. Maybe they could be broken up a bit more.
Conculsion - I am only on chapter 6 but wanted to get a review in here. This book should be found if people like the a-typical version of the litrpg genre. I really like this style of book and it matches what I have wanted to find. His patreon says there is more, so I will hunt it down and find it! Very addicting read and hard to put down!
Edit - kept reading and this story rules. The above is still true. - DampfnudelRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've caught up with the current chapters (18 as of rn) and found this new story in a pretty much explored genre to be rather pleasant surprise.
The story has an interesting and not often used isekai-twist at first where the MC is not *suddenly* snatched but can actually make use of his preparations. He is a very strict planner which is a good trait for the setting. The best thing about him is that he does not display too many annoying character traits of other socially awkward MCs in a similar setting, where you can often tell from the start that the MC is a murder hobo in disguise even though the writer tries and fails to make them a hero and great person. This story plays with the countless tropes that have been developed over the years in LitRPG, and I'm looking forward to see how it will play out. I personally am tired of the way the majority of LitRPG protagonists act and progress which is why I find this one more appealing right know.
Grammar and style are good and engaging, imo. I didn't find any mistakes so far, though I'm a second language reader.
My hope for the rest of the story is that the author keeps the mentioned strengths and doesn't dive into hatred against various sorts of cliché antagonists, mainly the gods or the invading world. It's been done way too often with way too little skill, and it typically makes me drop most novels that do it. Furthermore, once he starts to meet other people, it would be great if they didn't just become one-dimensional footnotes. - Dingo_shablinkoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story will pull you along effortlessly! The MC is a likeable protagonist with a love of order and lists and is intimidated by interactions with other people. He and a few others are selected to have an opportunity to save the world.
This is a slow burn isekai story that is long on character development and build up to action. The dialogue is well written and the character interactions really make it fun to read. - Eric VanderlipRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Resonance Cycle is the story of a young man randomly selected to prove himself in a fantasy world in six month's time. What follows is wonderful adventure through his preparation and journey beyond the portal.
Style: The perspective is consistent and smooth. The pace is solid and exciting. No complains.
Story: Conversation and events flow naturally at a satisfying pace. Great care has been placed in the worldbuilding, whether on the Earth-side or the fantasy-side. As for the narrative, the tension is built up in a wonderful way in the early chapters: as the loner Ty goes through his preparations, he makes more and more "friends to protect", slowly raising the stakes of this impending journey. It's always refreshing to see an isekai character who wants to go home.
Grammar: Near perfect. My need to edit (for grammar reason) went unfulfilled.
Character: Stellar cast. Ty makes for gripping, sympathetic protagonist, with his need for list serving as both strength and weakness. Ty's grandmother is wonderful character, and the relationship between the two is heartwarming. Even cast members we only get brief glimpses of, like Jim and Jessica, feel fleshed out and alive.
Conclusion: I highly recommend Resonance Cycle. In terms of writing, worldbuilding, characters, it doesn't get much better than this. You'll soon find yourself relentlessly click "next chapter" to discover what happens next. It's an addicting read. - LightningShadow7Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Randomly found this ficiton in the newly updated and its truly a hidden gem. I like the far more interesting take on a litrpg and I also appreciate how it avoids many of the number increasing pitfalls I normally dislike in other stories. The author's premise is also far more unique and interesting which I won't spoil here. The grammar is impeccable and the main character is definitely interesting. However, something I feel this fiction is missing is an actual side character (not counting the Arbiter) who can add more nuance to the story. From the premise though, I understand why this may just be more of a solo adventure and even with only a main character and extremely small supporting cast the author has made it near-perfect. I also appreciate how the MC actually thinks and plans ahead instead of constantly beind saved by Deus Ex Machinas (although some situations and how they are written kind of come off as such). I highly recommend this story for reading and to the author I would suggest as you already clearly have to further reduce levels and numbers and instead try to stick to just abilities with text.
- MagicmammothRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Our MC really does bounce all over the place, it is a nonstop thrill ride with high stakes and great world building!
In a lot of ways the story embodies the Wild, never what you expect, always pushing forward!
Had great fun reading it! The MC remains true to his charecter while breaking and growing in painfully intrieging ways! - PureChanceRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I stumbled across this fiction in the most recent updates section, which is always a bit hit and miss - this is certainly a hit. If nothing else take the fact I was motivated enough to write my first ever advanced review! It's a not entirely standard portal fantasy, whose differences I'm enjoying for all the right reasons. MC is selected to travel to another world (with magic, gods and all the good stuff) and 'save it'. There's enough justification for why he goes, why he stays, and why he was called in the first place. It has an appropriate amount of progression so far with an interesting levelling system that appears more descriptive than simply numbers go up (and so avoids the numbers quickly getting pointlessly large), as well as a good way of dealing with power creep it seems (in terms of single use items). Also manages to neatly provide a rational reason to not pursue the life of a murder hobo as soon as he arrives, beyond basic morality (which seems to irritate a subset of readers as if they and the rest of the world are sociopaths). Really excited to explore the world (much like MC), and hanging on each chapter so far which is always a good look!
Style
Third person single point of view with knowledge based on characters knowledge. Serious tone with appropriate levity; strikes a good balance of beauty and horror in the new world. Author is involved in the discussion and comments, and is clearly interested in engagement.
Story
Fairly standard portal fantasy fare in terms of what to expect so far - obviously MC is somewhat special and important because otherwise there wouldn't be a story. However the author spends a few chapters giving a bit of build up which is both unusual and very much appreciated, supplying a reason for MC to actually obtain a degree of mental, physical and emotional preparation beyond the razor thin justifications supplies to explain every one of your call of cthulu characters starts with a sword-cane.
So far there's not really a clear ant - TheMadProfessorRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I love the concept of this massive multidimensional arc going on as the main imputeous for the adventure. I also greatly appreciate how the main character isn't someone who goes "gosh golly, gee willikers, what am I gonna do?" when the problem hits them. They take initiative, they spend the time given to prepare for the challenge to PREPARE FOR THE CHALLENGE. It isn't something they take lightly, they give it the seriousness it demands and that's a real breath of fresh air. I also liked how they’re not some ‘lone wolf alpha male’ who just happens to master everything they need to have to succeed.
They connect with people (yes, they don’t like to interact with many people, but this is more of an introvert thing than anything else,) they work for what they’re getting. And I cannot thank the author enough for the present a challenge and then have the hero turn to the camera and go “this would’ve been a hard challenge, but I master this exact same task months ago, so this will be a breeze.” I swear that just irks me when that happens.
I will say, particularly with the MC’s grandma, I would’ve like to have seen certain interactions before the big crossing of the threshold. A lot of it felt more told than shown to me and that took away some of the bigger emotional punches I wanted to have when they came down the pipeline. This doesn’t mean those emotions were missing, just not as fleshed out as I would’ve liked. Either way, this is an excellent story and I’m looking forward to reading more of it. - OnicRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0According to the author's words, this story is based on chance rather than actual plot, so prepare to be on the edge of your seat to see what unexpected— no matter how illogical it may be. It'll be Deus ex machina with extra steps, but it'll be fun because D&D would never be a success if it wasn't.
If it sounds interesting to you, go read it. It would be a pity if you missed out on reading an intriguing story before it was removed from this website and placed on KU.
It has a lot of potential, an interesting twist, and if you like D&D, LitRPG, or both, this is the book for you. - TheMakerGuyRoyal Road★ 0.5I don't know what to say other than this is god awful. Here is a list of things below including some spoilers for why I think so
everything that happens happens because the author wanted it to regardless of plot
he invents new plot on the spot to overwrite old plot to explain a current thing
the mc is revived with literally no explanation it just happens is never mentioned again and he has no powers or godly intervention to save him
a god had to pay for killing him but is totally cool with him being alive again to gain more strength
he makes mc decide to work with a demon queen and then instead of the demons just being another race like celestials decided later on in the story to make them just evil, like if you see demonic something it is just evil
the mc draws way too much attention to himself from the gods and all of the interventions they had to do to him. and yet he just wanders around with none of the other gods looking at him unless the author decides to foreshadow something (the gods are always reactionary unless the author decides otherwise)
they are in the middle of a scion war in the later books, mc 'forbidden' spell that he just forgot about and the reason it was forbidden was because it could start another scion war if used WHICH DOESN'T MATTER WHEN THE WAR HAS ALREADY STARTED
the mc is genuinely on the spectrum as a plot point, IT DOESN'T EVER COME UP OTHER THAN TO SAY *stutters* w-w-w-w-oma-n, eye contact makes mc uncomfortable but i forgot to show that so lets mention yet again, and Oh No I am panicking because I am autistic and not because this is a scenario anyone else would also panic in
the one above especially gets on my nerves it is not acknowledged by the author that the mc is autistic unless the author wants to avoid romance or wants to make the stakes seen higher because mc is panicking when in a very similar fight a few chapters ago he was fine.
finally, when the mc plots some he doesn't tell the audience, when the mc discovers something cr
