Description
You have been Reborn as a Tamer's Monster. Congratulations! You are in immediate danger. When our hero’s new life begins in a world of monsters and tamers, he finds he doesn’t start with strong skills or marvelous magic. Instead he’s just a helpless hatchling, alone in a terrifying forest and about to be eaten by a giant bird with wings of knives and needles for teeth! Surrounded by countless monsters hellbent on seriously ruining his day, there's nothing to do but run, hide, survive…and find out who he was in his past life, why his tamer isn’t there after creating him, and whether or not this world is even scarier beyond this forest of death. Lucky for him, monsters here can grow up to be just about anything. Once free of his weak hatchling body, he will grow into the most powerful monster ever: Nidhögg, the Withering Wyrm! If you like monster taming stories but with rpg elements comparable to Pokemon and Monster Rancher, you'll definitely enjoy this!
I'm very much looking forward more to Nid's journey. He's chemistry with his tamer is so cute and loving, that even I am also curious to know more about the tamer too! - LachoneusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is an awesome little story. This story is a pokemon type story but the main character is a pokemon, not a trainer. I don't think it revolves around collecting them all but around getting the strongest possibly Pokemon. It's got a fun main character who can't talk, which is always a plus.
- Mori FriedmanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I wasn't exactly sure were this was going to go from the start, but I have enjoyed the ride. It was fun see a story told from a mostly different perspective. To start with this story is cozy with just enough edge to keep things interesting and moving. The first part of just surviving a hostile wilderness is interesting in and of itself. And we get a lot of gentle giant humor as it progresses.
The origin arc of the first 15 or so chapters is a comforting read as something far to strong learns about a big world. The Text box plays a fun role as minor somewhat helpful, sometimes annoying character to the MC. It makes our gentle MC work for it.
The characters are fun, and development rolls along slowly aside from the MC. It feels a but too soon to put all of them through the developmental paces but I feel Astrid and Frey are about to be expanded on. Meebur is very likable guy, but he still shrouded in awful lot of mystery. The whole start of this novel is building mysteries to be answered later. It's slow burn so the answers will come in time I'm sure.
The story isn't straight up funny per se, but you will find yourself smiling at well spoken phrases and good lines.
I would be remiss if I did not mention this has a definite pokemon feel. Like a trainer grew up and loved his job in a world that would veery wisely not let kids wander around free in the wild because it is dangerous out there. The author hammers this point home again and again.
This story will definitely get darker eventually. There is a ton of foreshadowing and world with many problems awaiting the MC and his tamer, some of which are already having an effect. The author has littered Checkov's accessories all over the place like a four-year-old with and overflowing box of marbles.
I expect to see Meeber and the MC make some hard/painful choices in the future. Note cozy nature of the novel, I expect they'll be the right ones, but they'll cost. This will get much more interesting as it goes. - RilmaniRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story and setting is not identical to Pokemon. I think Meowth of Team Rocket and Mewtwo help illustrate that that setting can hold a respectably wide array of stories beyond the desire to "become the best."
I like this story. I think its setting will have enough depth to support very different tamers and monsters, akin to how Konosuba doesn't need to revolve around its core cast to tell worthwhile stories with the wider setting. I think the mood of the story can be described as "cozy" or "supportive," even when it is clear that dangerous threats lie ahead.
I like that this story isn't exactly about children; it isn't about the most ignorant peasant, from the lowest-rank city in the lowest-power country of some Xianxia world. The story intersperses information, character moments, and low-stakes action of to this point. It WOULD feel slow if the chapters dragged their feet- but they don't. Days and weeks are allowed to pass and core characters being up intelligent possibilities at a reasonable pace.
This stage of the story isn't going to make your heart pump or make you swear eternal hatred for anyone. It's cute, earnest, and cares about your time. I can't imagine the author betraying me with nonsense or frustration, if the future chapters have a FRACTION of the care that the beginning has. - The VilkasRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0(Written at Chapter 5)This story nails tension from the very first scene and never lets up. The egg-hatching opener is immediately gripping, and the decision to keep the system cold, incomplete, and borderline unhelpful works incredibly well for the tone. The survival stretch is relentless in a way that feels intentional—everything wants the MC dead, and the lack of early levels makes survival feel earned rather than gamified. The gradual memory recovery is handled with restraint, avoiding melodrama while still grounding the reincarnation angle emotionally. Highlights include the Harrowhawk encounter, the masked figure “bigger fish” moment, and the understated horror of realizing he has to go back to the hatching zone. Overall, this is a strong, atmospheric LitRPG with excellent pacing, a clear sense of threat, and a system that enhances tension instead of solving problems.
If I had to pick one thing that would need the most focus I'd say that in the extended “everything is trying to kill me” sequence, the number of dangers stacks faster than their narrative impact. Individually, they’re vivid. Collectively, they risk blurring together. - PrimaprimarinaRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Just like the fanfic about what would happen if James never got engaged, the story told so far is very interesting, with a dash of mystery and humor. Of course, at the time of publication of this review, there are only two chapters, but if it continues like this, I see potential with entertaining characters and an interesting universe to follow.
