Description
British plumber, Aldrich Isengrund donates his body to science only to wake up in the far future as the last survivor of a Federation experiment. Stuffed with archeotech, Aldrich has been given a chance to live long and prosper, so long as he reaps the great tithe of xenos required to unlock his implanted machines. How much destruction will one man incite with a battered, plasteel pipe? Note: Herald of the Stars pacing is appropriate for the galactic scale setting: it is slow. Some knowledge of 40K is assumed, though not essential. Try my original medieval fantasy:The Rícewelig Crown

- Arch OrezRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Tl;dr: Great story, slow pace, slow story, slow update. Time to wait a year or 2 to hoard a bunch of chapters x'DEveryone knows that a British man cannot go without tea and the main character is all out of good tea, to this day, he still remains without good tea and I am in the full belief that until he have gotten good tea, he will remain unkillable. The main character is essentially the potential man of Warhammer. The story is told from his view, so you as a reader would have to read between lines or have him hear it directly from others on how they view him. I personally believe that the MC doesn't see the truth of what he truly is and can become, with the help of his trusty E-SIM. Even till the latest chapter, I fully believe that he hasn't realized his full potential and he doesn't even realize himself, how abnormal he truly is in the world of Warhammer 40k. Infinite Growth and potentially, Exponential Growth. Later in the story, at chapter 100+, there are some similarities between him & Big E.The characters are excellently written and due to the story's slow pace, we do see the main character interact with others of the main cast, which is something I wish was more done in other stories. The slow pace is both a good & a bad.Something that I like and is rarely seen done in stories like these, is that the main character gets kids and have kids. There is enough murderhobos to go around, its time for the family men to stand up!
- ArchonJRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The build up is fantastic without letting up on early action / suspense, an it manages incredibly well the change from "being by itself" to making a faction, everything from the way it fits with the rest of the universe and at the same time affects it subtly is amazing and even more so the way the characters develop quite naturally, one of the best 40k stories ive seen ever
- AressweRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Honestly im not one for writing reviews but I do try and give some thoughts to stories i really like.
I have to say im really impressed with this one, while im not the biggest 40k nerd i do really like the lore and love what the author has situated his story in the 40k universe. Its well written and I really like the characters.
Would really recommend this for both warhammer 40k fans as well as those who have no prior experience. - AsherPhoenixRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have read quite a few Warhammer fanfics some being translations a few not and I can honestly say that out of the probably 30 or more I have read (some were dropped by the author/translator halfway through and some are still ongoing) I have consider this one in my top 3 favourites it is very realistic and conforms to the Warhammer universe very well. The story is very good and it doesn’t just give the MC everything on a silver platter he has to work for it and the Plot armor for the MC is not a 100 meter thick adamantine shield like in some story’s and is reasonable. The grammar is good and the update speed is consistent, I look forward to the new chapter every week. Therefore 5 stars for me
- BigBallsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Ths story has it all, good storry progress, Characters you can see exsisting in reallife even the side Characters, a good flow of story and nice readable Gramma even if englisch is only my second language i would say the gramma is First class.
somutch for my review..... READ IT GODDAMMIT!!!!;) - Big_ReaderRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story of course has all the war & chaos of 40k & its grim darkness. It is well written & interesting, & only rarely errors. We follow someone from our time thrust into 40k. This isnt a male power war fantasy, though there is action and conflict and it is well done. Story follows someone who takes the tech side of things & the logistics, praise the omnisiah. Even if in 40k there is only war, most war happens in short busts then 80% of time is prep, training, travel & logistics. I have read all of it & read it as it comes. At the time of writing this, we are now in space battles & trying to support solar systems against chaos & the political issues (idiocies) that plague 40k. The protagonist has amassed enough personal power to now be at the level where power attracts power & that's a very dangerous thing in 40k, cause 40k always has a new more powerful way to be awful & suck & destroy all your hopes & dreams. Read the story you will enjoy it. If you are new to 40k, i would say this story would be good for you, as it does a good job of trying to explain why things are the way they are from a modern viewpoint. Also for the more experienced it is filled with plenty of easter eggs & tidbits, the author trys to stay truthful to cannon, & shares where he references his info, but also as any great author isn't afraid to change to tell a great story (plus in 40k with chaos & the dark night who says there is cannon,
- CravenGrayRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The ingenious premise of a 21st-century individual thrust into the grimdark and dystopian world of Warhammer 40k hooked me. The author's narrative skill shines through as they seamlessly portray the far-future hellscape of the 41st millennium. The protagonist's struggle to adapt to this nightmarish reality is both relatable and utterly compelling. The world-building in this fanfic is nothing short of exceptional. The author has painstakingly recreated the intricacies of the Warhammer 40k universe, from the war-torn battlefields to the enigmatic Xenos and the merciless forces of chaos. The attention to detail is astounding and feels like a genuine extension of the official lore. I like how the author grounded the details by consulting official lore, and of course, his discourse in the comments of fellow W40k fans. What truly sets this fanfic apart is the character development. The protagonist's journey from a bewildered 21st-century human to a gritty survivor in the Warhammer 40k universe is a rollercoaster of emotions. The internal struggles, ethical dilemmas, and evolving alliances make for a profoundly engaging read. The supporting cast of characters, both loyal and treacherous, add layers of complexity to the story, making you genuinely care about their fates. If you're a fan of Warhammer 40k or simply enjoy a gripping, character-driven sci-fi story, don't miss out on this exceptional fanfic. It's a testament to the author's talent and dedication to the lore, and it will leave you eagerly awaiting each new chapter. Bravo!
- Doxis_Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style takes a sight hit because sometimes attention is given to technical details that i skim over, and the author assumes familiarity with ship types, weapon models and other 40k minutiae.
That said Everything else is a 5, because it is a great experience.
The plot is constructed well, the author shows planning and reasonable consequence.
I need 200 words, so I will be honoring the british protagonist by having a cup of tea and describing it here." Hot brown water."~ Ted Lasso
kidding, i actually like tea. And reading this book with a cuppa is a nice enjoyable time, until orks show up and bugger everything up.
Really? not 200 words yet? I AM THE VERY MODEL OF A MODERN MAJOR general. information animal vegetable and xeno.
my cat is sleeping in a box.
a box? yes a box. Is there lox? no no bagels or lox. just a cat in a box. A fox?, no just a cat in a box.
I love the pratchett reference in the "library"
perhaps a giant space turtle with 4 elephants can be seen in the Warp once?
Why 200 words? I feel i can say everything in 14.
"Its a good book. Great if you like 40k, still great if you dont." - DressedUpToPartyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Really nice work of 40k fanfic. There's always a little bit of worry when I read a 40k fic because they can go the crack-fic route really quickly where everything stops mattering and there's just endless chain-sword las-gun action and no interesting characters.
This is not that. In fact, this is quite a considered and well paced approach with a main character that's fun to read about. Even though the cast is small so far, it feels like any new additions will be well established.
Nice! - ErikbongoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Now I have read up to chapter Thirty-Three, and I must say I'm having a good time. The main character of the story isn't very fleshed through anything like flashbacks, but who he was/is affects what he does and what he finds in ways that are relevant to him as a character. In the beginning of the story he holds a pipe, in universe because that's what he found, but it also works thematically because in his old life, he was a plumber. Now he discards this pipe early on, but my point is that the author is good at writing with subtlety. This for me is a sign of quality writing, and that in combination with a seemingly good understanding of such an interesting and intricate universe as 40K, I must say I'm intrigued. I have never played 40K, but I have watched some Youtube videos and I played the Rogue trader game, and I find this authors use of the universe satisfying. I would very much recommend giving it a read.
