Description

Voyager, and every space probe that followed it, encountered a barrier around the Sol system. For 500 years, humanity could not explain its destruction, except to say that it crashed into an invisible wall. Many theories abounded, with such a clear indication thatsomeonemust’ve locked us up—but who and why?

When a gap was discovered in the wall, humans did the only thing that could bring answers. We sent a ship through to the unknown: whatever was outside our apparent prison.

This is the story of how little we knew about our reality…and how we began to learn.

I binged all the available chapters in one go, and wow—it’s so good! I came here after reading SpacePaladin’s other masterpiece The Nature of Predators. I was a little sad when that one ended, but I’m so glad I picked up Prisoners of Sol.
The story, the character building, the humor—everything is top tier. I especially love the interactions between Preston and Mikri; their dynamic feels like brothers, and it adds so much depth and heart to the narrative.
Keep doing what you’re doing, SpacePaladin—you’re doing an amazing job, and I absolutely love your stories! I highly recommend this one to anyone who enjoys HFY.

I am not a great critic of literature, so take my takes with a grain of salt. Prisoners of Sol is an interesting premise which follows similar steps that SP's previous work followed, humanity being the moral actor of a galactic community. While on one hand it is a premise which is usually positive in nature and usualy brings hope to the reader, it doesn't really bring anything new to the table. That does not mean I do not enjoy the story, actually the opposite, I really like it, but it is mostly the same situation. It is too early to tell if this keeps on or turns into something more.

Why are humans in this story stupid enough to not have hermeticly sealed armoured helmets with filtered air?
And why haven't humans tested their gear hiting it with Vaskar weapons to know what is possible and what's not, before jumping into invasion of entire planet?
I also don't like the whole "inocent android" premise. Emotions support both "love" and "hate", but we do not see the hate part. And transfer of knowledge about emotions is non-existant in a society of androids all connected via high speed network?
