Description
Book one complete!!! 200k words to binge! CelestOS: Thank you for choosing Celestitech, where your survival is our third highest priority! Ethan Cross wasn't supposed to be on this mission. He snuck aboard the doomed vessel, desperate to find his fiancée, Maria, only to crash-land on an uncharted alien world. Now he's got nothing but a basic omni-tool, a shredded suit, and the sarcastic company AI, CelestOS 4.2, whispering performance evaluations in his ear. The official mission was simple: find the Veslayan research team, the one Maria was on, and recover valuable data. But the environment is hostile, the wildlife is worse, and the remnants of something ancient, and dangerous, ripple beneath the surface. To survive, Ethan must rebuild from scrap, fight evolving alien threats, and uncover the truth behind the mission that was never meant to succeed. With every base he constructs and every battle he wins, he inches closer to finding Maria— the only reason he risked everything, and the only thing that still matters now. Time is running out. Resources are scarce. And something is watching. Build. Fight. - MisterViiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The author has had experience writing other stories and it shows. This isn't the kind of project you would see right off the bat and it is clear a lot of thought has gone into both the world building and the characters.
This action-packed sci-fi LitRPG breaks molds, delivering a thrilling, breakneck adventure. Ethan Cross, a desperate stowaway searching for his fiancée Maria, crash-lands on a hostile alien planet with a basic omni-tool, a tattered suit, and the sarcastic CelestOS 4.2 AI, whose snarky, ad-pushing commentary steals the show, blending humor and seriousness. The mission: recover data from Maria’s lost Veslayan research team. The reality: fight evolving alien threats, build bases from scrap, and uncover a dangerous ancient mystery.
The story is bold in breaking new ground as a construction LITRPG, but I have high hopes for it, based on what I have read so far. The grammar is well done and keeps you glued without feeling simplistic. CelestOS is a riot is defintely the best part. A fresh, hilarious ride with a standout AI. CelestOS could almost be the MC, but Ethan’s quest holds strong. A must-read for sci-fi and LitRPG fans eager for something bold. - AmacitaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0My favourite thing about this story is the tense, focused action in the survival crafting scenes. That's been most of the story so far; the main character needs to craft his way out of one life-or-death problem after another. At the same time, we're learning more about the planet, the main character, and the mystery of his missing wife. The MC is reacting to environmental threats, but the story is laying the foundation for a proactive shift, and I like that.
I enjoy the interactions between the main character and CelestAI. I think the bot is supposed to be annoying in a carefully balanced way, breaking the tension in dark moments and adding tension where it makes the story better. The bot doesn't try to be funny or snarky, but it does help the story with a bit of humour. Mostly, I think I like it because it is competent, focused, and helpful most of the time. When it isn't, it's funny, or it teaches us about the setting and the restrictions that the company placed on it. The balance between funny and annoying is delicate, but the story does a good job of pulling it off.
Overall, I am enjoying the story, and I interested in seeing where it goes from here. - GreyOfLightRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm thoroughly loving BFS, especially as a Factorio player. This could easily be the plot of the game itself. I especially love the dynamic between CelesteOS and the mc, the popups in the middle of combat had me rolling! It also sometimes feels like CelesteOS might be actually trying to help, but other times it seems like it's actively trying to kill him. I look forward to seeing where this dynamic goes.
I can't wait to see just how big this factory gets! - J.D. Mullenary Sr.Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a piece of outstanding writing, as always, from one of the best people on here. There's lots of stories to find on Royal Road. But for sheer consistency, dedication to fans, and love of writing, Fidd is among the best. Love your stories man. Keep it up please.
- incblobRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Solid factorio/satisfactory inspired sci-fi story. The feeling of omnipresent danger is well done, and the protagonist seems as normal as a sci-fi protagonist gets. Of course he has superhuman will and all that, but otherwise the story wouldn't be what is is. There is clear progression laid out, and limitations in place. All in all very promising.
- UnholyBadgerRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Very interesting story with neat concepts.
I like the characters and the progression is well paced and earned. Action scenes are also well written.
The only criticisms is some slight inconsistency but the author usually quickly remedies it and the fact the ai snark gets a little repetitive.
Overall great. - PartysanRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5The story is well written, but the humour doesn't work for me. It's doing survival crafting with a satire of corporate dystopia not unlike Subnautica, but the corporate part is omnipresent rather than background.Usually the humour comes from parody, from exaggerating elements to absurd degrees until they become funny. Thing is, the corporate evil portrayed here is only absurd in its honesty and its constant harmful presence therefore isn't funny but incessantly infuriating. The only way this story could be satisfying was if it ended with all the shareholders being tortured to death. I don't want to read a story that only makes me angry.
- AzeltorezRoyal Road★★★ 3.0The skills. What do they do? What does the skill module do? That hasn't been explained, and maybe it will be later on or further in than I am, but how do they work in a world that clearly isn't a game, and doesn't have indepth cyborg augmentations?
Throughout the story so far, there have been tonal issues with CelestOS' dialogue, varying between manipulative "Reyes must be cold now", coldly corporate, and cartoonishly "You must complete the survey prior to fabrication commencing" level of corporate.
But the bigger problem to me is formatting and missed details. First: CelestOS' dialogue should be handled in a blue box if it's a HUD message, or bolded dialogue if it's from some form of helmet communicator. Using "CelestOS: [Dialogue]" is pretty weird to read. Secondly: For a substantial part of the story so far, the CelestOS drone has been following the main character, even kilometers away from the crashed escape pod, with this only being clearly stated when it uses its drone to pick up sand. Missed details like this can pile up.
Other than these issues, the story is fine. I like the alien world, although the explanations on what it looks like in terms of scenery are split apart across multiple paragraphs, failing to form a clear picture in my mind of most locations. - Ratchet_SlyRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Everything about this book's premise is right up my alley. The start was engaging and set up the characters involved well enough that the reader can tell the what/why of the events happening.
Unfortunately that is as far as the good goes. It has a few scenes of resource collection, crafting, and adversity being overcome, but at the cost of a terrible chaotic neutral AI companion and hard to stomach narrative pacing.
On the subject of the AI, which I feel the crux of the issue sits, I have a few gripes.
First, the AI's personality overpowers everything in this story. It's to the point that the MC is entirely one dimensional. Every emotion, every action, every reaction is dependent on the AI and its antics, to the point that I find myself skipping several paragraphs of THE SAME dialogue every chapter with the repetitive back and forth between the "MC AI" and it's human foil. It's the same every chapter. Without fail.
Second, when the MC does have some form of independence narratively, it's always "OH NO!! MARIA!!!!!"
To the authors credit, it's apparent they are using all this to set up for something else later on, but damn is it impossible to stick around for the pay off. Yes we know we are supposed to be frustrated with the AI, but why has every chapter since the crash been almost literally been copy/pasted.
TO THE AUTHOR: I don't often leave reviews, muchless long form ones, but feel compelled to in this case. You have a promising story in your hands. It's pacing and terrible AI companion is holding it back. I'm not saying change it's personality, but you have to balance it out somehow with everything else.
Goodluck, try to keep motivated. - WhiteGringoRoyal Road★★★ 3.0....but I can't. The stupid computer thing, CelestOS, is completly infuriating. I am afraid that the humor doesn't really land with me the 15th time. I was hoping that it would be a background thing but its practically a second MC. Just always there. Which is a shame cause the crafting survival portion seems really interesting and what I had read up to this point was good. Unfortunately the computer ruined it for me and i couldn't keep going.
