This is a strange and fascinating debut. It feels like stepping into someone’s dream while it is still forming. Born From Nothingness is ambitious, a little chaotic, and packed with raw creativity. I liked it. I liked the story. I liked the Walkers. I liked the weirdness. The AI-assisted aspect didn’t bother me at all. There is still a human voice guiding the story.
That said, it often reads like the backstory was delivered before the actual story got a chance to start. It feels more like a mythologized overview than a narrative unfolding in real time. Chapters 2, 3, and 4 in particular have a formatting style that feels pasted in. Maybe it is an artistic choice. But for me, it broke the rhythm.
Still, the world itself is compelling. It has the tone of a darker, stranger version of Supernatural. The mythology is thick and sometimes a little slippery. But it works more often than not. Alex Walker is easily the strongest character. He is layered and interesting and feels like someone worth following.
This is not a perfect novel. But it is a bold and worthwhile start. The potential is there. With some refinements, this story could evolve into something really powerful. - LuposXRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I like the beginning it's not as cliche as the normal isekai schlop, the poem is a nice addition.
Overall, the world building is cool and has lots of potential, it is strongest element. I also like the direction the story is heading in.
A bit of criticism:
I feel like the author is a bit lacking in weaving it all together and building one coherent narrative, it feels like just many events happening after another without proper suspense being built, emotional impact, I would slow down the novel a bit and give the events more breathing room. Like how can I feel emotional invested, if I don't know anything about his family and him, it lacks emotional depth, the interpersonal.
