Description
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
Amy Wachlund is a failure of a Mage.
Forced to act as a ward of a small rural village due to a contract, any hope of making the most of her life has been lost to the endless ridicule of those she protects. The government refuses her pleas to send a replacement and she’s running herself into debt without the village’s support.
This would be her life until the day she died, fated to never spread her wings and fly.
That is until she stumbles upon something odd in the woods. A strangely forgotten Mage Tower, dilapidated and overgrown, seemingly the source of a strange magical phenomenon. It is there her fate is forever changed, as she learns about the lost School of Mages who called themselves Wizards.
What to expect:
Path of Wizardry is a slow-burn mix of progression, slice of life, and mystery though there are definitely moments of action mixed in. Most importantly, Amy will experience heavy character development over the course of the story, helped along by a cast of supporting and (hopefully) interesting characters. As I know some readers do not like it, there is planned romance (no harem) later on in the story though it is not a massive focus.

- 3BlindMiceRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm usually not one for reviews, but since this is a new story I'll give one.
The main character is well written and complex, though way more wimpy than I usually prefer. She's kinda scared of everyone and let's everyone walk all over her, even little kids.
The side characters are essentially nonexistent, still just paper cutouts waiting for personality except for her familiar, the primordial cat, apparently.
Setting is good and developing well in a direction with room for limited growth, but unless higher worlds exist in this universe, it's always going to be a relatively small setting with one smallish world and nothing else. I expect there may be since gods apparently did exist in the past
I like it so far, wish there were more chapters - SkootchinPooterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Excellent story so far, just taking off. Like all good power systems, this one confuses the hell out of me. I'm sure we will learn more as we go, and I actually quite like the way it's unfolding and what we've learned about it so far, as well.
The plot itself so far is perhaps slow to evolve, but suffers not at all for that, being only 56 chapters in, anyways. It seems true adversity has found our MC at this stage, though, and things are cooking up in a big way.
Much mystery and rediscovery of recent history awaits, along with some introductions to the movers and shakers of this world.
Do recommend! - SmiteGoldRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm really loving the story so far. The magic system is especially interesting in my opinion and there have been some long term mysteries set to solve. Amy is a great protagonist and I hope we see more of William in the future. The pacing is kinda slow but that's my only "issue" with the story. 10/10!
- floopy15Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0By what i have read so far the story is very gud and deffinately has promise for its future. the story has an intriguing plot line, which also leads to haveing great characters to follow along this plot line. I do recomend this to anyone who wants a read while they have the spare time.
- DeoxyriboseRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I think this story is really good, enjoy the characters (the whole two of them), and I like the story hidden within so far. But, I would like it for the story to begin to change, since this village setting, and the people within it, are rather limiting aspects of this book, and a big reason why I can only give the story 4 stars, as of current. The pacing is also rather slow and I hope the pace is picked up soon. The magic system is really intriguing and I hope to see it fleshed out further. There are many little things inside the story that I personally enjoy, like the cooking scene and the tower scene at the beginning, which is why I give the style 5 stars. On the topic of characters, I like Amy. She feels like a person, most of the time, and not only has tons of things she's good and bad at, but is clearly a unique individual in this world. This makes her stand out and not just an everyman. On Felin, he's cool, I guess. I like his hidden backstory and I also really like how his character plays off Amy. The rest of the 'characters' are really just nothing burgers. Maria is Amy's friend, the kids are Amy's bullies, and the mayor who's name I've forgotten is the mayor. Outside of the two MCs, everyone else feels shallow and empty. The grammar and usage of words is good, but there are small typos in certain chapters. Overall, a solid read so far, and I can't wait to see the next chapters and volumes and see what they bring!
- Emilia of EmblinRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I like the story so far. The pacing is decent and some interesting mysteries have been established. I look forward to getting to know more of the world and what happened to the wizards and why esoteric illusion has been forgotten.
I've rated the story 4.5/5 for now, since I like what's been written so far and it shows promise for what's to come. I look forward to reading what this world and magic system has to offer.
