Description

Monsters lurk in the night, but what if something else hunted them?

An incident in his childhood left Velik an outcast with a racial subtype that thrives at night and unique class called[The Black Fang], which focuses on just one thing: killing monsters. He’s good at finding them, and he’s good at slaying them. For ten years, he’s been gaining levels and sharpening his skills on the thousands of monsters infesting the wild lands of the frontier. For ten years, he’s kept a lonely stretch of towns safe.

Despite his efforts, this year has seen an explosion in the monster population, so much that he’s no longer capable of protecting everyone by himself. This draws the interest of another monster hunter, one that’s professionally licensed, but he seems more interested in investigating Velik than anything else. At least with him there, Velik is free to finally explore the mysteries of the deep wood, where he believes the source of all monsters resides.

Every answer he finds leads to new questions, and not even Velik himself knows the truth of what happened on that fateful day. One thing’s for sure: not even the monsters are safe in the dark.

Genuinely intriguing is probably the best way to describe how it felt to read this novel so far. From the first chapter to the most recent, my intrigue hasn't faltered. When it starts is probably the biggest factor for this but far from the only one.
There's the mystery of who the main character is mixed with hints of what he's done but you're never outright told these things. It's a discovery of the past threaded with a progression fantasy in a way that is immensely pleasing to read.
Style wise, it feels like an experienced author with the word choice to match. It doesn't throw out big words just for fun, but uses a variety of different ways to describe what happens. My mind doesn't pick up any repeated words while reading nor does it find any ones that stick out like the author was looking through a thesaurus.
Story, the plot development builds with every new chapter and it never feels dull. It always has something rolling ahead no matter if the chapter is from a side character's POV. It also holds those POVs together really well.
Grammar, as stated above, it feels like the writing of an experienced author. It doesn't have any large grammar issues or spelling mistakes that I've seen.
Character, this is where I feel the fiction does best. It finds a way to make nearly every character at least a little bit interesting. Even if you're only here for the main character and numbers go up, it finds a way to pull in different side characters in a way that isn't paper thin. It also has these characters feel distinctive, which is rare.

The pacing and writing is well done. The plot is interesting and keeps me coming back each new post. The characters are fleshed out. What else could a person ask for?
In my opinion it is a good solid, fun read. Would recommend this book to others if you are looking for something good to read.

This work has it all, whether it is the full-on action with epic fights with enough description to add you to the party or the funny and often very awkward interactions with the main character or even the adventures, intrigues and mysteries. In short, it is a great work, that I strongly recommend.
I like the style and I find it well balanced. The author sometimes changes the point of view but always in a manageable amount and for a good reason which benefits the story. They also make sure that the reader can keep up the pace.
The story is great. No spoiler here but I can say it has been a pleasure to follow along with the adventures of Velik. Very naturally, I found myself empathetic to his struggles and frustrations. I wanted to know how he would evolve as a character in a challenging world. Of course, not everything are roses and rainbows and I found myself frustrated a few times but at the end of the day, I can say I enjoyed it nonetheless.
Velik is awesome. The rest of the characters. That is a tough one. Some characters are really hard to get used to and not gonna lie, a good part of them are jerks in my opinion.
But at the same time, it makes the story realistic in a weird way. Like, not everyone has to like you and be your best friend which can create friction when you have to collaborate if the situation demands it. Anyway, like I said previously, Velik is awesome and that is the most important.
I have nothing to complain about the grammar, everything was clear to me while reading.

Book 1 has just finished and was a blast! really good story and a satisfying conclusion. I am eagerly looking forward to the worldbuilding book 2 will bring. We will finally see the MC leave his "starting village" so to say, though he's already super strong I'm curious to see how much more powerful he'll become.

I've been reading this story and I will say its a wild ride!
A wrongfully outcasted feral monster hunting boy, Fleshy eldritch dungoens capable of creating baisiclly human mimics and the intense battlescenes to the world where slowly being introduced to...
Not to mention multiple mysterious still yet answered, and the uniquely deep characters we are getting know.
This story has me, waiting for what is yet to come.
    Here ill leave agift..
A dive into a dungeon, wrought only ruin and pain. Two boy's unknowing, aught of their actions, wandered deep.
Encountering a cursed core, their foolish naivety doomed them than. Their screams echoing in the dungeons halls, one soul consumed another changed forever more, there actions unleashing a horror.

Great story with actually good writing. I skipped sleep to binge read the current chapters in less than a day.
The author has a plot that keeps you hooked and waiting to see what happens next. The litrpg aspects are nothing new, but the author manages to tease you enough that you’re interested in how things will develop.
While I do wish the MC had more character development, it helps that he’s competent and the author doesn’t make him do dumb stuff for plot.
Book one was well worth the read. Looking forward to see how book two goes.

    Not an expert however:
Felt like it had a good flow
POV changes added a bit something to each chapter
Didn't give you all the answers straight away (hate that)
    Characters seem pretty good 👍
World has been given a lot of room to grow
System has a slightly different format than usual litrpg, slightly worried about only having 3 stats, but we'll have to see how it develops, story seems more skill oriented anyway
Just my quick rambled thoughts, seems very promising 👍

I have been through a fair few stories on Royal Roads. This is the best one I have read so far. There have been less thought out, less well written, and less interesting stories, that make it into publishers hands. This story has all the best traits to be on top. There is drama, suspense, mystery, and excitement. There are still standard tropes, but the tropes present are the ones we all look forward to. Solo jaded MC that grows to be more than the stain and shadow that he starts as, monsters flooding and expanding influence without restriction, and plenty more. While you start out years after the MC gets his powers, there is growth and the history is provided without constant exposition; well placed breadcrumbs that provide a richness to the story and to a degree the world. The MC while brooding and grim, isn't constantly in soliloquy. The host of supporting characters aren't specifically just plot threads or exposition, but feel alive in the world. The action is solid, but the author actively keeps it to a digestible level. Every time you learn something you had questions about, there are always new questions to be asked, but not to the level where you feel overwhelmed. I strongly suggest giving this one a read.

Book 1 is good...anything other than the biggest line of the storyline was hard to predict for me. It's like the pre-Saint War arc of Shadow Slave to a degree, yet also particularly better at that point.
Kinda glad MC is not overly genius at all times, panic judgements/decisions were real in Book 1
