Description

A veteran healer who once gave up on the world, now trying to save it one ripple at a time.

An oceanic monster now trapped in gemstone, still dreaming of owning the stars.

When Leod, a newly minted Sage, buys a 'domesticated' dungeon core from a travelling merchant, he expects a mildly useful magical homesteading tool to help him in his new life.

Instead, he is soul-bound to a chaotic, hungry, and intelligent creature who refuses to be tamed.

As they forge an unlikely partnership in the forgotten town of Fallowhold, both must decide: Is it better to stay safe in a cage? Or to risk everything trying to become more than they could have been alone?

When the kingdom begins to collapse around them, they'll find out if their ideals can survive the fires of war.

Very much enjoying this slice of life, coming of age, mid fantasy story.
This story is about a character coming from a orphan street rat who was able to convert a role as a magic field medic into a rural scribe/doctor training who finds his assigned town to be more complicated than he expected. MC has some war and abandonment trauma that is explored through his growing relationship with his new dungeon core that has the soul of an octopus who is becoming enlightened through their connection.
Worst part of the story is the decision to use alternate spellings with no apparent reason. Man is myn and since we have demihumyns this is more relevant than I first expected. Crowmyn, salamandermyn, panthermyn, catmyn, etc. also the chapters from the octocore have a stylizing that can be hard to read where eVerY cOupLE oF lEtTers ArE cAPitAliZed.
Title doesn't describe the story at all. There is only one dungeon core that matters, sold to MC in the opening. Maybe we will see dungeon cores sold, but I doubt it 60 chapters in.
Anyways, first bit is travelling to the town. Lots of one off characters who wouldn't have been given the time of day in a more streamlined story. It's been fun to MC later tell stories about stuff you've read. I wouldn't mind those being more expanded, it's interesting for me to note what is being left out or highlighted. Next is being given a house complete with old useful boxes as well as house warming gifts from generous kind neighbors. Really the ultimate fantasy. Then it's a burgeoning romance with the neighboring daughter, exploring the dead dungeon below the town, and preparing to negotiate with the guild that is trying to take over the town.
If you can handle the slow rural pace, I'd say it's worth a shot. Octocore for the new rural Lawyer Doc has been a good read.

The writing is good, and the world building is being delivered in a smart, well-paced manner which tantalizes and makes me excited to see what comes next, and what unfolds. The protagonist is fun to read. Capable and relatable, and I am intrigued by the design core, and what the outcome of that will be.

Liked everything about this story to where I got to, however hate the aspect of the namings to be alternative for no reason at all and put me off enough for me to drop the story
humyn , snakemyn everythingmyn, its exhaustive as my mind keeps backtracking the wording everytime i see it

I found the story to be quite enjoyable. I started it wasn't too sure about it for the first 5 to 10 chapters (not sure but somewhere in there it picked up) and then the story took off and I read it through to the end of book 1. There is some action spiced throughout the book and kept me involved.

this is a five star story with one major flaw. The jumbled upper and lower case text representing Nix's communications and thoughts is so hard to follow that you lose track of the message just trying to make out the words. I have finally stopped trying to follow and skip those parts. This makes it sometimes difficult to get the whole picture.  It would make the story so much easier to read and make it flow smoother if he was just represented with another color or font. Its a great story so far that could be better with this change.

This story expertly follows the journey of this young hero. Not a man by the blade, but a man of action nonetheless. Along with his journey of not only gaining a home but finding his place in a world on the knife edge of disaster.
I greatly commend the stories foreshadowing events of the past and possible events of the future. A decent attention could see all the plot threads along with the careful way they have been laid out.
I have just finished chapter 39 of book two, I wait eagerly and anticipation to see the full journey of this tale.
