Optimizing Your Isekai - Progression Fantasy w/ Slice-of-Life and Biz Building Elements

Description
Terry Carver was just a regular, middling business operations consultant, living a ho-hum life traveling to random places every week to mildly help companies do business better. And then someone pulled his soul from Earth and stuffed it into a hulking body with an exceptionally bad haircut.
That body also happens to be an exact copy of another transmigrator who has caused alotof trouble.
Now, he’s trying to make his way in a world where it’s fights instead of flights, rifts instead of reports, political power plays instead of PowerPoints, and actual magic instead of Magic the Gathering.
Leveraging his strong understanding of business and rational approach to dealing with people, Terry’s building out a powerbase based on personal, political, and financial strength.
What to expect:
Rational, reasonable, and multi-dimensional characters (including flaws), especially MC
Slow-burn story that accelerates to medium-burn over time
A comprehensive and comprehensible progression system
(Hopefully) humorous writing, especially dialogue, that doesn't interfere with the story/storytelling
Long chapters – 4K word minimum – released at 10am EST Monday and Thursday
Elements of business, slice-of-life, empire-building, delving and combat, and progression/cultivation (not xianxia style)
Pretty darn good grammar (hopefully as I line edit three series each w/ 10K+ followers)
Rare alternate PoV scenes (always start with same scene MC is in); first alt PoV chapter (necessary!) at ~1.2K pages and no other alt PoV chapters planned
Absolutely no harem, but yes to light romantic background cosmic radiation 😅
No power fantasy, weak to not-so-weak; power isn't only personal but financial and political
System inspired by a lot of things including Path of Ascension with some dreaded math (I've got the spreadsheets!). Tyranny of rank is a bit reversed with it being far more important at low Tiers. Writing style influenced by slice of life + comedy + character-driven progression fantasy series.

- McBlasterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A slightly different take on the isekai'd progression fantasy.
MC isn't starting off with an OP skill or ability. Rather he gets the capability to utilize a mana essence that is causing the local area issues for the delving community.
Problem is, when you are useful to some, you are a hindrance to others or seen as a tool to be exploited by the powerful.
Coming to a new world, finding your feet and the lay of the land isn't the easiest. Roadblocks, schemes and good intentions will find you bouncing all over the place... That is unless you have previous knowledge that'll help you navigate such machinations.
Finding trustworthy friends or acquaintances willing to help you gain the knowledge or find some backing is a must.
A really good mix of political manoeuvering/dealings, dungeon delving, wealth gathering and power growth. Set in a slice of life atmosphere.
But there is also a story behind how Terry arrived on this world, we are learning this a bit at a time.
There are quite a few characters to get to know, luckily Splootasaur has been kind enough to give us some nice chunky chapters and has deliver an appropriately paced story that I hope you'll enjoy reading as much as I am. - HerrFaulRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Through chapter 5, this is a bog standard isekai romp with a mix of LitRPG and cultivation tropes, similar in style to Path of Ascension.
It sets itself apart with a lightly tongue in cheek tone toward the genre and its tropes, distinct and memorable characters, and an MC doing his best to apply corporate business jargon to pulp fantasy adventure. Worth a read, looking forward to more. - jenjen12341234Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0No character screens or LitRPG heavy elements so far, but enough hunting at elements that it might pop up in the future.
The writing is very good, and the story flows well so far. Some of the explanations on tiers and cultivation and spells etc are missing a bit but it is still quite early in the story.
Potentially all the women seem a bit too flirty and interested in the MC, especially since at 18 he would be more boy than man for women in their mind to late 20s. - NomikosRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5So I found this story from the recommendation on Path of Ascension, where the cultivation element takes strong influence, but it is not a copycat story, let me be clear from the start.
Honestly only 'low' score, due to personal preference, is the style. Not because the flow is strange or anything like that, it's only that the strange 'censorship' is a bit grating. Not because I believe a story needs swear words, but if you want to avoid them there are better ways (look out Choose Your Apocalypse for example on RR).
In this story we have a substitution of english words with 'native' ones. So, for example jebbie = fuck. Then we have substitution for: shit, bullshit, dick, etc. Funny at the beginning, but after a while it becomes confusing as hell. I had to search a bit to write the title of the review. Also the english words are explicitly mentioned at least once (to make the reader understand) so that defeats the point.
Ok ranting done, characters are quite well written, grammar is pretty spot on and I want to know what is gonna happen next so overall a great experience!
Still not 200 words??? Still not 200 words??? Still not 200 words??? Still not 200 words??? - DCdictatorRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I want to begin this review by saying explicitly that I am enjoying the story, I think it shows a lot of promise, and that I am basically its target demographic.
The author is clearly aware of some worldbuilding issues that have cropped up in other stories and has taken steps to mitigate their influence on the long run of this one.
Generally: the worldbuilding is sound and interesting and I'm interested in seeing where the story goes from here. There are, however, flaws.
The flaws are common and fixable but they exist:
1. Too much worldbuilding at the same time. There's a run of like 5 chapters that is entirely describing how the world functions but without in story examples to really tie them to. As a result, that information doesn't really stick and those chapters are a bit of a slog. In general, I think it would work better if the information were tied to explicit events.
2. Too many characters are introduced simultaneously, and it can be difficult to track who is who. Additionally, many of the side characters have very little to distinguish them from each other - adding to confusion.
3. Tone can be inconsistent. It's a little hard to determine the seriousness of given episodes i.e. the main character seems to be in serious danger but is not acting like someone in serious danger at some points. This is sort of in-keeping with his general existence but it would be nice if there were a greater separation between what is serious and what is not.
4. There are lots of references to other stories that I find fun because I've read the other stories, but if you don't know who "Klee-Pak" is, for instance, those references are going to be confusing. Moreover, and I'm not sure how true this is, but it feels like the story assumes a lot of background information on the part of the reader, and spends time explaining how this story is different without explaining the baseline.
5. A lot of other minor quibbles. Events are a bit unfocused. There hasn't been a lot of description - DragonKRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Start a little slow, but def picks up over time, esp as MC finds their footing.
The lack of easy wins and more capable existing characters gives the world a good lived-in feel with depth.
I look forward to seeing the MC grow and adapt, and get a haircut. :P

He must navigate a bizarre new reality, overcome perilous encounters, and decide whether to embrace his newfound magical abilities to build a new life or simply survive.
His initial experiences are marked by surreal encounters, from a battle with a flour-wielding squirrel to a confrontation with a hippo-dinosaur hybrid. He relies on his wit and resourcefulness to survive, demonstrating a surprising adaptability despite his initial cynicism. Upon reaching a bustling city, he undergoes a Core Ignition ceremony, revealing a unique "null affinity" that sets him apart from the native population.
This null affinity presents both a challenge and an opportunity. He receives a significant sum of money from the summoners confiscated funds, allowing him to purchase essential supplies and an AAI chip. He seeks guidance from experienced fighters, learning about cultivation, combat strategies, and the complexities of the world's magic system. His training is interrupted by a near-fatal ambush, highlighting the constant dangers he faces.
Reader Review: "Optimizing Your Isekai" offers a fresh and engaging take on the isekai genre. The cynical protagonist, Terry, is a welcome change from the typical overpowered hero. The blend of fantasy adventure and realistic character struggles creates a compelling narrative. While some pacing issues and contrived coincidences could be addressed, the story's strengths—vivid world-building, engaging plot, and well-developed protagonist—make it a worthwhile read for fans of progression fantasy and isekai.
Conclusion: "Optimizing Your Isekai" demonstrates considerable potential. The author's voice is distinct and engaging, characterized by a cynical and humorous tone, informal diction, and a fast-paced narrative style. The use of vivid imagery and descriptive language creates a strong sense of atmosphere. While some aspects of the style - perversityRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The author is really talented, and is good at interactions.
Over all the story I stop of the line, and I enjoy most of his characters.
Not a big fan of some aspects of the world, and even though they are public and talked about, it's not thrown in the readers face too badly. Not entirely sure what the point of the story is atm, other than bad things 'appening, but.... /shrug It is fun to tag along. The story is slow paced, and luckily the story isn't slap full of combat.
The thing I dislike the most (other than some specific actions that trigger my negativity.) is in the later half of the current story, the author fills half to a third of the chapter with some filler crap from a story talked about in the story, and after trying to read the first few of them. I skip every single one, which to me makes the entire thing a waste of time, and effort (the fore-word or what ever you wanna call it. Not the story. AND that's why it's 4.5 not a 5 review.)
Also this is very much a cultivation story, western cultivation, not eastern (because eastern cultivation is crap.) this is also the only story I am reading atm that is based on cultivation. Which just points at the fact that this is a well written story IMPO.
I'll stop rambling now. LOL - stridekerRoyal Road★★ 2.0This book had a wonderful title and I really wanted it to be amazing. It wasn’t, but as a caveat, I only read the first couple of chapters. It had a little bit too much humor. This prevented the tone from really being able to immerse me. And then things started being a little bit too easy for the protagonist. But again, it’s possible that this really grows into its own, and if I ever see that it makes it to Kindle unlimited, I’ll give it another shot
- Storm170Royal Road★★ 2.0MC consistently is a mixture of arrogant and stupid, the entire arc of his bond being hurt and him refusing to own up to being the one responsible for it happening was enough to lead me to drop the series. Hope the author can adjust his character voices in the future to make them less unappealing.
