- VevcdfRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0classic cultivation story but no plot armour, random BS, face slapping, idiot MC ect.
Imagine a cultivation story that acually makes sense with charcters desicions.
MC is an old reincarnater, this is not new, but with the exception of reverend instanity, this is one of the few stories where MC actually acts it, an old guy who thinks of time in decades and centuries rather than hours and days is not going to start bickering with some random child, which MC does not, he understands people and cements himself as easy to get along with so he can slightly and slowly profit off it, as he should.
Only complaint is that this current ARC is beginning to drag, hope they get out the farm soon. - dotblueRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Cultivating Insanity takes the traditional Xianxia genre and maintains the traditional Chinese mythologies while also elevating the story with a clever MC and competent side characters. I really liked the story and would recommend it to anyone looking to read a new Xianxia story.
Style wise, the story is smooth and easy on the eyes. There are occasional phrases that need a second read, but that's mostly because they're translated Chinese phrases.
Story is where this story shines. It adds a new layer of complexity on the traditional Xianxia world and everything is logical to a certain extent. There's still the standard Xianxia elements of trying to gather more resources but that's broken up by actually competent characters instead of just face slapping.
Grammar wise, there are a couple of mistakes here and there. It could probably take another pass on the editing front.
Characters is once again where the story does really well. Everyone in the story feels real and genuine instead of silo cutouts meant to fulfill a specific role. Whether it's the villain or supporting side characters, they're all real and have their own motivations. Some are more intense while others are laid back.
Overall, this is a really good xianxia novel and potentially something that will define the genre for years to come. - InslayerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Xun realised that he is in a dog eat dog world after his death. Waking up in another body and realising his folly, his plans for the future haven't changed.
With a destroyed talent he has to think on his feet and work harder than he did in his previous life if he wants to succeed.
His cultivation is interesting and the way he goes about solving his problems shows that you can take everything from a man but his experience.
He's not the strongest, nor the weakest, but I would sooner anger a devil than him.
If you were planning on reading a cultivation Xianxia story, search no longer for you've found the perfect gem. - MaMM0nRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Xianxia story with classic elements and character, while foregoing clichés, with crafty MC with an approach geared towards long-term planning, and well written at that. So a 5 star is a must. It would have been at the top of Webnovel but let's not talk about that abhorrent website with sub-par writing. Only thing worse than that is Wattpad😂
- Astral CrystalRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style: The style is great, it's easy to understand what's happening and the time skips and alternate povs are done well.
Story: The story is great, it's very fun and entertaining but I feel a bit confused as for what's it's trying to go for. The first arc of the story reminds me of The Promised Neverland in a way, where the mc has to scheme, prepare and plot to survive against a foe much more powerful than him. After that though the story takes a bit of a shift into a more lighthearted part, it even has farm development and chickens. There's still scheaming and dark aspects since even in the more comedic parts there is still the cruelty of the cultivation world present. And as the synopsis mentions the mc is not a lone wolf, he has a group of friends and they get a bigger focus than before since in the firts arc we basically only had mcs perspective, I didn't see the friends coming at all. Should have probably read the synopsis closer since it mentions the mc is not a lone wolf. Anyway I love the story so far but I feel a bit conflicted on what's it's trying to be, the mc is still plots, schemes and manipulates but the group of friends takes a big focus as well. Their growth is as equally important as the mcs, so I guess it might be scheaming with friends? This is new to me since most scheaming mcs I've seen are alone, so I guess that's why I'm a bit confused at what's the story is going for. The cultivation system is also well thought out and is more unique than the usual ones. Anyway I still really like it and I'm excited to see what happens next.
Grammar: The grammar is excellent, I don't remember seeing any errors. And from what the comments show any errors that do appear are corrected.
Character: The characters are very complex in this story especially the mc. The mc is very morally complex and he's great I like him, he's scheaming, manipulative and will throw random people under the bus if it means he survives or advances his plans. But he's also very caring a - imraefiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Prose is acceptable. Pacing can be a bit off, but it's not that detrimental to the storytelling. Some of the lore exposition is a bit awkward in how it's slotted into the text (campfire storytelling), but I can easily overlook it. The system is interesting and generally aligns with an experienced readers' conception of hierarchy, with some cosmetic changes.
The best part of this story is the characters. The author gives nuance to the standard cultivation stereotypes and demonstrates significant skill in making the reader want to learn more about them. There are multiple dimensions to the different players that are a delight to experience. It's indicative of an author who has thought deeply about both their story and interpersonal dynamics in a way that others with an exclusively Anglophonic perspective may not be able to match.
I look forward to reading more and would be willing to support the author on Patreon, should they choose to start one. - SolrimsbzRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A great cultivation story that in my opinion is paced just right. Since the author found a way to make even the stuff the mc does at such a low level interesting thanks to his unique thought process compared to the other disciples. Not a lot of action but that's to be expected since I was looking for a MC that would think through his problems rather than challenge the heavens every other chapter. Overall a very well written story with no noticable grammar or spelling mistakes.
- NoTime..Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5So far i am enjoying this story.
Mc has common sense and seems to think and plan out his actions before doing them, This is extremely rare in these types of stories and this change has caused me to like this story quite a bit.
My only worry so far is that i feel like progression will be extremely slow. So unless you like being here for perhaps hundreds of chapters this story may not be for you - Melon MonsterRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Honestly speaking, it's good so far. I don't understand some of the low reviews. You'll like this if you're looking for a main character that's grayish morality wise. He is neither particularly upstanding nor particularly heartless, as far as Xianxia protagonists go. There are people whom he genuinely cares about, but he also doesn't shy away from solving his problems with violence and scheming.
Some of the other reviews seem to have expected a more upstanding main character. All I have to say to that is that for a novel that was inspired by Reverend Insanity, the main character is honestly a saint in comparison. - AllMagesRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Basic Xianxia reincarnation with a few twists.
At first, I liked the chracterisation of the MC and the reasoning for him ignoring everything except the path to immortality.
Then, I liked the handicaps he was saddled with to make things interesting.
After that, I kinda disliked some of the more ruthless stuff the MC pulled, but could appreciate the brains he demonstrated while doing it.
Right now, I hunger for more chapters.
Honestly, my only critique is that the advancement-system that is in place seems to revolve mainly around the 5-element lore of chinese mysticism, whereas Xianxia gives you space to cultivate and make use of so much more. It also seems fairly basic in the methods of advancement, with throwing Energy into the dantian being the mainstay, while body gets only mentioned tangentially and mind is not mentioned yet.
If the author expands on what is in place I'll gladly give 5 stars.
