Description

The world needs a hero, or at least the spirits stuck protecting it want one. There are dragons that need slaying, wars that need fighting, and there's always goblins lurking. You need power to make a difference, and those that seek it become players in the great game of the spirits. Mostly they enjoy granting boons to adventurers and sending them on quests to vanquish evil. Mostly.

Sometimes, evil comes looking for you whether you asked for it or not, and not all of the spirits play by the rules.

Memory Shards is a heroic fantasy story with LitRPG elements. Rather than stats continuously going up, progression comes from a diversification of skills and abilities. The story takes some inspiration from games like the Legend of Zelda series, but at the end of the day steel and guts are what's needed to win fights.

The first novel's worth of content is fully written.

Assuming you come across this review by the time this work has had a fair number of chapters uploaded, you won't regret giving it a try.

The beginning of Memory Shards has really pulled me in. Krake has a solid writing style, descriptive but not overdone, that brings you into the world without getting bogged down. While it's too early to really know the characters well, I like the ones who have been introduced thus far. And, of course, I'm intrigued about where a few things are headed. What sort of blessing will Ricky obtain? How will he be pulled into the wider world? And what do the mysterious travelers want in his village? I look forward to finding out.
