Description

The Salamandras have declined over the centuries. The once powerful mageknight lineage has degraded, becoming a weak, poor family. With their final source of income gone, the patriarch’s brother staged a coup. He sold his brother and sister-in-law into slavery, and cast his nephew into the depleted manarium mines.

Newstar, once a noble heir, now reduced to nothing more than a grimy slave, has toiled for three years for scraps of food and meager survival, tormented by guilt. However, the stars align, bringing hope and opportunity. Can the young man escape his fate and endure the perilous journey to restore his noble family to their former glory, maybe help them rise to even greater heights?

This is a rewrite with the original's problems fixed.

If you’re an avid reader, listener, watcher, or consumer of media in general, then you have encountered some various rendition of the same tropes in nearly every story.  Our chosen one starts off in an unhappy life, if content, then something happens and it pulls them away from their life and their journey to heroism and power begins, they find a mentor, then mentor promptly dies or disappears and the hero tragically goes on blah blah, yadda yadda… there’s more examples of common fantasy tropes than the hero’s journey, but all that say… this story has had very few of them. The expectations that you have from previous experience will mid direct you. The story zags where you zig. The big bad is a pathetic foot note, the brute is actually genius looking for a fresh start, the hero knows they’re being taken for a ride but can’t find the bit that leads them down another’s chosen path.
tldr: the story is not what you’re going to expect and every turn so far has felt fair but unexpected. Worth your time.

This story is so underrated i can't emphasize enough how good it is . This story has depth from its worldbuilding to its characters . Newt grows from a socially ignorant teen  to a Warrior . Newt is kind and brave he tries to embrace these ideals as much as he can but doesn't waste his time when death is guaranteed . He struggles with his disconnect with those that have lower lifespan than him especially his family . As not everyone can reach high enough realm or even awaken . Its a story about a boy who struggles against the world and its impossible odds . There is mystery there is death and there is fighting and tiny bit rommance in later chapters

Newt is one of the best written teenagers in the genre. Despite his obvious advantages, he is human. He is awkward, prone to rash decisions, seeking validation and at time arrogant. He also grows.
It is rare when an author promises character growth on the story page that they deliver it on this level. The character growth is believable. He acts and behaves his age, but it's clear he is learning. He is becoming better and wiser.
It's also great to read a cultivation based story with nuanced characters outside of the MC's family and love interests.

Cultivation. A magma dragon that teaches. It is what it says it is. I like this fiction because it is like vanilla ice-cream with strawberry syrup on it. It does the basics well while adding a bit of excitement on the top. Just right!
Also, the MC is the right balance of clueless and genius. His life is in danger regularly, but he also spends significant time crafting his cultivation. If feel that many cultivation stories don't focus on the actual cultivation enough.

This could have been a lot better of a story. The author does not make enough grammar or spelling errors to be noticeable or jarring. The problem comes writing style - what I mean by that is this: The author doesn't delineate between scene changes within a chapter creating a annoyance to the reader. The writing style is smooth enough but boring. It is the lack demarcation that causes to the reading experience to be less than it could be. The first chapter is particularly bad - so much "happens" within the first chapter that is not written - it leaves the reader struggling to piece together the choppiness of the writing - of what is occurring to the character - while on the very first page of the book so to speak - trying to get into the immersion of the chapter while the the authors writing style does its very best to kick the reader out the the immersion. Additionally the MC pretty boring. This coupled with the choppy writing style does not create a story structure that easily pulls in the reader. The author would be very well served by going back and re-working a lot of the earlier chapters, adding additional detail, smoothing out scene changes, clearly delineating between the real world and the MC's internal world.
