Magical Physics: A Dungeon Core Progression Fantasy
Community Rating
Description
Dungeon. The word conjures images of a place of danger, of terrifying mobs and legendary loot. The word itself is both whispered in the night, told by mothers to frighten children, and the word bellowed from the lips of mighty Adventures as they set off to plunder and loot in search of the ultimate score.
But Granite doesn't know anything about that, at least not yet. All he knows is that his Dungeon Whisp wants him to set up a dungeon, kill as many people as he can, and give ludicrous amounts loot to those who survive. Sounds easy, as long as he can stop his dungeon from exploding.
Repeatedly.
After all, a dungeon is supposed to have spike pit traps and ravenous mobs. Giving Piggy Commandoes liquid hydrogen/oxygen grenades and mana accelerators with zilch idea of what will happen is not something a responsible, sane, or successful dungeon would do, right?
Join Granite as he struggles to find a balance between the mana he's made of, the physics that holds it all together, and the kittens that keep murdering everybody.
Fair warning: If you don't like detailed explanations of how dungeon mechanics work, this book might not be for you.

- keeganashleyliveRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0While this is not typically a genre I read (honestly, I didn’t even know it existed---opps!), I really enjoyed this story. It's unexpectedly hooking. The first paragraph wowed me and pulled me right into both the story and the main character---just in a few sentences!
This story really shines in worldbuilding and the depth of emotion of the main character. I feel both are done very well. You get a clear view of this very creative world the author has constructed, and you're there hanging out with an extremely likable and relatable MC as they discover it for themselves. The character, also, struggles with their world in a really believable way which I enjoyed. Well done.
I didn't see any glaring grammatical errors, and I very much liked the flowing style of the writing. This story has a very "whole" feeling about it; it's very fleshed-out feeling, especially with the world. I don't know if this is due to what seems to be a very well-thought-out aspect or if this genre typically has different elements that are just expected. I really enjoyed this read. Give it a go even if you're not into the particular niche; the story and characters are worth it. - Eric VanderlipRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Lord of Physics is the story of Granite, a sentient Dungeon Core which a penchant for physics (and firery combustion), determined to make best dungeon he can as he navigates the problems Dungeon Cores face.
Style: The perspective is consistent and smooth. Dialogue feels natural. The text is a tad verbose at parts, with unnecessary details spelled out. (Hopefully this review is out of date and a round of condensing has elevate the story to its full potential.)
Story: Conversation and events flow naturally together. Motivations and actions make sense. Great care has been given to the worldbuilding, especially the physics. Watching Granite fumble his way to a functional dungeon, dealing with eruptions and various problems, drives the narrative forward.
Grammar: Excellent. My need to edit (for grammar reason) went mostly unfulfilled. The only issue is that the perspective does swap back and forth between first person and third person perspective in a way that can be jarring sometimes.
Character: Granite makes likeable protagonist, somewhat-clumbsy protagonist, and Ryia an excellent sidekick/guide. The non-dungeon related cast also feel fleshed out and developed. No issues here.
Conclusion: I recommend the Lord of Physics because of the strength of its protagonist and the quality of its story. It's a nice and relaxing dungeon core adventure, filled with non-relaxing things you'd expect (explosions, violent deaths, vicious traps, etc). Definitively a fun read. - YatoGodRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0First of all let me say this, interesting concept and near perfect execution. I started this story a while back and waited with anticipation for each update. The amazing blend of physics and dungeon - diving told from the POV of a dungeon boss is really interesting and a fresh approach as well.
Even though the writing style is a bit tedious to read at times, the author's grammar and writing style coupled to produce a wonderful reading experience that would make anyone want more.
The story is well paced and produces a lot of twists and surprises along the way with the ocassional humour and also a bit of suspense.
The grammar was excellent and really easy to read except a few typos scattered here and there but they don't present a huge problem.
And finally the characters. Granite and Ryia produce one of the most fun duos I have read about in the recent times, but the interecations between them and also the development of other characters does need a bit of an effort.
But overall this was a very nice read and I wish the author all the very best.
PS: Waiting for the next update.... - IslandwriterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0First I'd like to note that I'm not the biggest fan of Dungeon Core books. The genre was cool the first time i read it, but I knew it wasn't for me. Despite that, even I can appreciate the time and thought the author has put into his rendition of the genre.
Filled with wit, emotion, and science, Lord of physics delivers in its titles promise. You'll OoooOoo and Ahhh at the way the author describes the operations his dungeon evokes to get the results it wants.
Style: The author at first seems hesitant to include his own flare, but as the story goes along an explosion of style hits the reader. Pacing is also solid as well.
Character: The MC and his wisp are delight to read about as they fight, laugh, and grow with one another. The introduction of several other characters are well done letting us in on the workings of the world as a whole.
Grammer: Besides a misspelling every once in a while thr Grammer is solid.
Final thoughts: The story is a well researched, well developed, and extremely enjoyable adventure one should experience for themselves!
Story: Personally when I read/listen to a dungeon core book I like seeing adventures a bit more than we have been, but that doesn't take away from the intelligent deliberate story telling at play. - Jastin LuxRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I think my favorite thing about this story is that it does world building and characters right.
Sometimes authors that are good at one are not good at the other. This story has both. The world building is through and detailed, but it does not come at the expense of the characters. I expecially enjoyed the interactions between Granite and Ryia (his guide). I feel confident these characters will continue to develop.
The pacing and writing quality are also good. I never thought the story was dragging or that it felt rushed.
I also liked the perseptive of the adventurers and am looking forward to seeing more of them going forward. - Luca DRRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I like when authors take their time to come up with original ways to spin a trope. And here, we see it in action. The story starts off slow, but it gradually builds up while setting the tone for what comes next. We are introduced to our protagonist (Granite, a sentient dungeon core) and his way of thinking, which will eventually shape all adventures to come. We are then gradually introduced to other characters, the players of the world, the power system and its rules. We are then shown that - luckily - physics still has something to say even when powerful cultivators can move mountains with their hands. And, the core being a physics core, we are all rooting for it.
there are plenty of magical elements, and plenty of OP mc times. At the same time, the power level is balanced well and we get struggle and gratification instead of some washed down power fantasy. The characters are good and they interact well, showing growing complexity as time goes on.
grammar is good. There are mistakes here and there, and some weird formatting but the author fixes them as soon as they are pointed out to him
style is where i have something to say. I dont know it it's a deliberate choice, but often times we see the narration switch from 3rd person limited, to 1st person subjective without rhyme or reason. I would understand if it happened across different parts of the story, separated by line markers or even in different paragraphs. But here it happens in the same paragraph at times, making me wonder if perhaps it was just an oversight.
I willa await clarification on that point, and recalculate the style score accordingly. If it stays the same, as you can see, the score will be 4.5 stars. It's not bad and i like it, but it takes a while to get used to and it's a bit jarring at first - Confused GooseRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Have you ever wondered what kind of shenanigans could a protagonists pull of only he though for 5 minutes before using magic?

Actual review:
So far, very fun story! There are some grammatical errors, but nothing too agredious.
Main premise of the story, beside the fact that it's the dungeon core, is magic interacting with the world and it's physics.
Characters are pretty interesting and the fact that the core is not a human (this is not an Isekai, i think) feels nice. We get to poke some fun at a society and some of the ironic/strange things we've all come to accept, well author does, we just get to giggle at it. - PenguinsAreScaryRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5First of all: This story hits a few of my pet peeves, so I might not be as objective as I am trying to be: This story is using US customary units for absolutely no in universe reason (if an American is isekai-ed by truck-kun, sure, use your units. If this is a completely different world, no!). I am European. Feet are to walk with, not to measure with. In addition, it uses that weird F to SSS scale for cultivator strength. Which... doesn't work if there is no cap to skills like w/ a system. For more info, please check our discussion in the comments ;) In addition, I guess, I am just squeamish about the historic meaning of SS.
Grammar, spelling, punctuation and other mechanical parts of the story: Are okay. There were the occasional glitches, especially in regard to missing spaces after punctuation, but I pointed these out. As seen by the use of US customary units, it was likely written by an English native speaker of Liberia or the USA.
Style: Didn't get in the way. I am honest, I am not a literary critic. If it in some way messes with my screenreader or my reading comprehension, I notice it, otherwise, it tends to be an unobtrusive background feature.
Characters: In general, the characters are okay. Sometimes the protagonist seems a bit inconsistent (yearning for knowledge so much that he agrees to a pact for it, but then seemingly not caring about it classes substances into exploding and boring), but then, so are we sometimes. The protagonist seems to have ethics in it though and not be cruel. Some of the delvers though are grating, though I am going to assume that this is for character growth.
Story score: With a loud, trumpetted "baraaag", the elephant in the room demands attention:
There is a divide between what I expected according to the blurb and title (the title was adjusted though). I didn't expect this to have cultivation elements. I didn't initially expect there to be a high emphasis on magic as opposed to physics. The new title makes it clearer though th - ZatyaIstenRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Well, this story is off to a good start. As a fan of fantasy and progression stories with a strong interest in science, I may be somewhat biased in this review, but I will try to be as objective as possible and provide the most accurate review.
Firstly, the story. The story starts very interestingly and it quickly grabbed my attention. It moves quickly but in a pleasant way, not to the extent that I have to pay close attention to keep up with what's happening. Unfortunately, although this speed is enjoyable and it certainly captivates readers, the backgrounds of the characters are slowly revealed. The idea is also quite good; it's not like many generic stories where there's magic and then goodbye, but the author tries to explain it with great detail and science, which made me even more invested in the story. Granit's slow development and learning about the existence of the Dungeon Core were also entertaining to read, as well as the interactions between Ryia and Granit. The characters are still quite flat, but what am I talking about when only the 5th chapter has been written, or more accurately, posted online? Based on what I've read so far, there will surely be plenty of character development, and hopefully, great things will come out of their relationship, even though poor Ryia was flung into the jungle at the end of chapter 5.
The grammar and its usage were perfect for me. There were a few typos, if I recall correctly, in chapter 3: you wrote "Grant" instead of "Granit," but if that was intentional, then it's okay, I just thought I'd mention it. It is easily understandable and easy to follow throughout the story, and it really enhances the story, making it much more desirable to read. Since I am not a native English speaker, I cannot provide more details, but I can say that if a non-native English speaker with somewhat 'limited' language skills can understand the text well, then you're on the right track!
I highly recommend this story to anyone who enjoys this ge - Delectablebooklover8Royal Road★★★★ 4.0This is quite the interesting story. We start from the perspective of a dungeon's curiosity leading them to play with the properties of matter (liquid, solid, gas, etc) into interacting with said dungeon's energy/mana to create some Explosive results (by accident?) via physics. 😏 Both figuratively And Literally. 😂 It's fun to see how surprised he is by the world around him and how his actions would casually affect the lives of his creations (and later on everyone else lol)= an ant's claw causing a dungeon wide explosion or just realizing that his creations needed air to breath 😂. There's also not a lot of monster growth or exposition, expect for a few kitties, but there Is Lots of traps and the like to be had due to Granite's concentration on experimenting with the physical world via magic. And, from what I'm remembering, the dungeon lay out isn't over emphasized. A brief mention on how a floor looks and we're off to a different perspective. Almost as if Granite sees the layout of his floors as an after thought. And while there Is some politicking going on in the background; it's not the usual "Who owns the area around the dungeon" that we see in so many other dungeon stories lol. The politics show us how this world reacts to his very existence in general and hint (for more) towards where all that could lead... There's more to be had there but knowing all the players in the game isn't always fun lol. Overall this is a great story. I'd like to see more fleshing out of the characters and the story as a whole via character growth and the like. But otherwise, it's a really good read! 😊
