Luke's talent for fixing things is going to get him in trouble. When a necktie-wearing orc walks into the magitek exosuit repair bay and demands the best rune mechanic on Earth, Luke is "volunteered" for interspecies employment. Five years after a failed alien invasion, Earth maintains a fragile peace and a tense trade with orcs, elves, and dwarves. Now Luke, a former combatant, has to leave Earth and work for the very orcs he once battled, repairing advanced magic mech suits for monster hunters. Then he straps into one of the monster-hunting suits himself and discovers he has a taste for danger—and profit. With a handpicked crew of battle-hardened monster slayers, Luke dives into deadly missions, eager to amass his fortune one valuable monster core at a time. But the System of the World has other plans. It gives Luke a powerful magic class, making him a player in a far greater game. His new abilities put a target on his back. Navigating ever-growing monster threats, secretive elvish plots, enigmatic "men in black," and cutthroat corporations, Luke’s only hope is to get stronger than anyone seeking to use him. They want a pawn, but he plans on clearing the board. What to expect: -Epic monster fights with mechs -Slow power growth -Housecat antics. -No Harem -Fantasy magic politics -Home every night -Release schedule is Monday, Wednesday, Friday

The MC has a day job in a magic realm but comes home every night to his own place and his cat. After a dozen or so chapters I would say the pace of the story is excellent, the characterisation is primarily focused on the likeable MC but the other humans and the aliens he encounters are sketched in well, the plot is a work in progress - I can't tell whether his passions for his rune crafting will lose out to monster killing but both hold my interest, and finally the worldbuilding aspects of the story have been handled really well. The author is tackling a bite-sized chunk of an alien world and doing it well.

So how do you write a story that is about aliens, ie Orc, dwarfs and Elves... monsters, crafting and yes Hunting...
Well, read this great story and find a good impression of one. There are lots of stories that start strong and taper off but this one is going strong has a bit of romance to make it real and is better written than this review.

Fun engaging story so far.  I love the unique magitech twist with the MC starting out as a technician but quickly evolving into a  frontline combatant.  The magic system is interesting and not a rehash of anything else I’ve read. I like where this story seems to be going, and am looking forward to the ride.
    Also,  Rescue cat … neat!

It has a very interesting premise. The world-building is familiar but with a nice spin on it. The characters are fun (loving Jinx!).
No, it isn’t perfect, but I don’t rate for perfection. I rate for entertainment, and what’s been released so far had me skipping over my followed releases to find out what happens next with Luke. Now, I’ve got another one added to that list!

This story is like Iron Man, but without the flying (for now). Our protagonist is freakishly talented at combining both magic and technology to make suits and weapons. Takes care of his cat and mundane real world stuff while he's not in the other world engraving runes and ripping apart monsters. Every power up of his is well-earned, it does not come out of the blue.Give it a read. Maybe we'll get to see Luke soar through the skies at some point.

I’ve tried about 5 new novels on kindle unlimited in the last week, and couldn’t finish 4 of them bc they just weren’t very good, despite having a high rating. This story though is really great!  A nice balance of character depth, humor, action, crafting, system, action, and slice.reads well with grammar, and is just lots of fun. Looking forward to reading more for sure!!

I really liked this book because it’s just a good, enjoyable read without trying too hard. The progression feels very natural and immersive. You can actually follow how the character improves step by step, and it never feels rushed or unrealistic.
One thing that stood out to me was how normal everything feels at times. The mundane, everyday activities are shown in a very genuine way, and even the mistakes the character makes feel real. It’s not like the main character is perfect—they mess up, learn, and move forward. That makes it easy to relate to, even though the story has monsters and fantasy elements.
I also liked how the book balances regular life with the monster-hunting side. It doesn’t completely forget about the normal world, which makes the story feel more grounded. Because of that, the fantasy parts feel more impactful instead of over-the-top.
The writing is simple and easy to follow, which actually works in its favor. It keeps you engaged without making things complicated. You can just sit and enjoy the story without overthinking anything.
And honestly, I loved the cat, Jinx 🥰❤️. It added a fun and wholesome touch that made the story even better for me.
Overall, it’s not overly complex, but that’s exactly why it works. It’s relatable, engaging, and just a really fun read.

Excellent work, I really enjoy the characters, the magic, the system, and the overall writing.
I’m excited to see more of Allen and Vanessa and how their classes work. It will also be fun to see how everything with SPEAR will work out!
Please keep writing and I’ll be ready for every new chapter!

I’ve read a lot of urban fantasy and portal stories, but this one is something special. The worldbuilding here is absolutely top-tier—layered, creative, and truly immersive. Magic tech, political tension between Earth and Kalibutan, and an amazing blend of sci-fi and fantasy concepts. It all feels grounded and fresh at the same time.Luke is a fantastic protagonist. He’s competent but not overpowered, and his relationship with Jinx—the cat with magical prosthetics—is both hilarious and heartwarming. His moral compass, his stubbornness, and his sense of humor make him instantly likable. I also appreciated the nuanced depiction of disability without falling into tired tropes. The pacing is excellent, balancing quiet personal moments with intense action. The mana core wreck scene had real stakes, and the hydra fight? Absolutely thrilling. I loved how the story gradually revealed how the magic system and social hierarchies work without infodumping. Also, the character interactions are a highlight. The mechanic crew has great energy—quirky but believable—and the naga runewright Kruro is already a standout character. This story deserves all five stars. It has heart, danger, humor, and imagination. If the rest of the book lives up to this start, it’s going to be an instant favorite. Highly recommended for fans of inventive, character-driven fantasy.

This story hits a fantastic blend of grounded sci-fi-fantasy, blue-collar grit, and smart worldbuilding. Luke is a genuinely likable underdog protagonist a one-legged rune mechanic with a magic cat and a past that won’t stay quiet. The portal tech, mana-infused gear, alien politics, and class system feel immersive and believable. There’s real heart behind the action, especially in Luke’s bond with Jinx and his stubborn refusal to be sidelined.Dialogue is snappy and natural, with great character voice. The banter with the mech crew is fun, and the scenes with Kruro are tense and compelling. The pacing is tight despite the chapter’s length nothing feels like filler.
