Description
Luna has always wanted to be an Earth Guardian, but she knows it's far too late to have been chosen. It's a fool's dream anyway. The reality of battling monsters every few days to protect the human race is somewhat less 'Saturday morning cartoon' and somewhat more 'child soldier war story.' But that allure of magic always called to her... and one day, she's given an offer to have everything she's ever dreamed of. She promptly says no, because the offer is from one of the most obviously evil women Luna has ever seen in her life. She's pining, not stupid. Get out of here with that blatant monkey's paw crap. Unfortunately, it turns out obviously evil women don't take to being told 'no' all that well. The next thing Luna knows, she's waking up in a robotic body, unable to speak and bound to follow the whims of the monster she tried to reject. How can she find freedom when her every thought is bound in servitude? Will any of the Earth Guardians she's now being forced to fight realize she's in need of help, or are all of them far too busy with their own problems—including but very much not limited to saving the world? And if she does get saved... is there any chance she could keep the robot body?

- Flowing ReflectionsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Thundamoo continues to write extremely interesting and deep characters.
Magical Mechanical Heart follows Luna a depressed ADHD transgender lesbian suddenly trapped into a mechanical body, used to serve as a slave to an unstable villainous magical girl.
However compared to being the life she used to have, this one isn't all that bad, a body that resembles her gender and a mind suddenly free of executive dysfunction and able to burn off unwanted emotions as fuel.
Every character seems to be stuck in their own personal hell, much like Luna is, but our MC isn't ready to just give up and desperately fights for the happiness of herself and the people around her.
The story thus sets out a very well grounded story on how to become happier and connect with others, even if everything has gone to hell. - AboreusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've read all Thundamoo's books and I like this one the most. The story is fun and intense. The Characters feel alive and change and adapt to their circumstances. The main character's dilemma is thoroughly horrifying, yet it doesn't devolve into suffer porn. The world carries hidden mysteries that make so much sense with the power system. Simply put, if you have read any of Thundermoo's previous books, I can highly recommend this one.
- AmateurHourRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Thundamoo is at it again, prepare for body horror, a new and horrific flavor of mind control, apocalypses, and automated alerts to not think about boobsAuthor continues to build on their signature style of xenofic crossed with disaster lesbian inner monologue. Dialogue flows naturally as a result of strong character work, and said characters and their environment are well detailed and evocative. Maintains a natural flow despite the often tech-term heavy descriptions inherit a mechanical MC, worldbuilding is on a nice organic drip-feed.Like the authors other works, this will not be for everyone. Anyone deeply unsettled by loss of agency / free will should make sure they're in a very good headspace or give this a pass. While it's to be expected that the MC will eventually regain some semblance of freedom, the initial chapters may be taxingTo those who continue on you'll find a gorgeous story centered around the concept of personhood (in particular quote-unquote 'AI' personhood), examinations of the problems of informed consent inherit to the magical girl genre, and 'lesser evil' ethics. Also a robots who maybe used to be human crushing on otter girls who only want them for their body (because they're a mechanical engineer)
- 5StarsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is little girl torture simulator 0.9, and none of any of this is ok :pFun fact, the MC’s robotic body is a custom-built alien torture prison from an extinct species designed to prevent that occupant from communicating, force them to obey orders, while being fuelled by their emotional horror, fear and sadness, anger etc which it burns as fuel.Kind of a, we made this robot soldier powered by the mental anguish of our enemies as they kill their former loved one’s sort of deal.Speaking of, in a world where emotions are consumed to power magic, none of the magical girls are picked for their emotional stability, as the story progresses you get a few more PoV’s and see more people coping with the horror of the world and their existence. So, yep, horror, all of the relationships are some variants of broken or abusive, but there is also care, love, fear, hope and the whole roller coaster is packed with very broken people trying to cope and make connections with each other and grow as people like stunted trees desperately seeking towards some form of light.Things do get better, there is resolution and growth, or at least moves in those directions at my current chapter, the MC finds ways around some of the restrictions relatively quickly story wise, while still being trapped in an abusive, but not evil, web of people just trying to work shit out.The Story is good, the characters are solid, its written well and if a psychological body horror magical girl story with hints of the eldritch is your thing, well then, you are in for a treat.
- Apannr1Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Like always Thundamoo blows us away with her writing and it seems better than ever. Expect to laugh, cry, go aaaaaaw and ponder things both great and small. Give it a read as soon as you can. And once you’ve done that and become a fan. Go ahead to read all the other series as well.
- BFDynamoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Really great series! The emotional impact of the end of the second book is incredible and left me wanting to immediately start reading from the beginning again.
Characters are well differentiated with varying motivations, attitudes, and abilities. The parts of the story I found most interesting were conflicts between those characters stemming from their personalities or world view clashing, though the physical and magical combat scenes were well done too. - Black AutumnRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Once again Thundamoo brings the sweet sweet taste of psychological trauma and emotional scarring. We love it, we enjoy it, everything Thundamoo writes is gold.Magical Girl Mechanical Heart gives Midoka Magica: Puella Magi, and Sailor moon vibes with a hearty dash of trauma™ it even uses the feelings wheel in an ingenious way.
- DewsifferRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This book is genuinely amazing, the characters are nuanced, experience growth, and have immense trauma as is standard for child soldiers. The story keeps you hooked with the several ongoing mysteries, interesting character growth, and intense feels. The style is in depth without getting bogged down, no winded exposition just chunky chapters filled with content. All in all I would highly recommend you give it a shot.
- AodhfynRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Genre-wise, I would pitch this as a more sci-fi-leaning magical girl piece, with elements of political and fantasy mystery.
It's incredibly good. Specifically, the characters are incredible, which is the element I care most about. The main character has a compelling inner voice that I find both very unique and compelling. But some of the side-characters are currently competing for favorite. The plot is compelling, but I obviously can't speak to the end since it's ongoing right now. And it's a bit of a mystery, so I don't feel I can say more than that I find it engaging right now. Thundamoo's prose is, as usual, quite good. They lean more towards robust narration in the main character's voice, but that works extra well in this story. - GazhackRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Characters feel well thought out and layered, and author clearly does research into mental health issues to give insight into a range of issues. It's helped me see some things about myself too I otherwise might not have. Give the story a try, you've nothing to loose and much to gain. The story is an interesting view on the genre and does an excellent job of helping the reader inside the views of all sides, making it a rich tapestry of colour instead of just straight forward good vs evil. The magical systems are complex and consistent, and are described in a way you can easily see it.
