- James BailyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0You should read this. It is enjoyable. The first main character is evil. The second is good. It's so much fun as they.... uh spoilers? fight each other? And then~~fall in love tilde tildeAnyway. The style might be off putting for people who only like one pov, but I liked it.I have not noticed any grammatical mistakes. The most important characters are the main characters. There isn't much development for side characters...The story is delicious~Overall I rate it 98/100 as I have stories that I enjoy more than it.
- Bookman9Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I Love My Greatest Enemy is a real page-turner, diving into the juicy drama between our two main characters.Style: The way the story switches between Armand and Eris's perspectives keeps things fresh and gives us a peek into their minds. The flashbacks are very compelling. They filled in all the gaps in our protagonists' thought processes.Story: The love-hate relationship between Armand and Eris is the real spice of the story, driving the plot forward in all the right ways. You can practically feel the tension between them as they uncover the bigger mystery as to why things turn out the way they are from Prologue onwards.Character: Eris is a total boss with her detective-like skills and sharp mind, while Armand brings a whole other level of complexity. He's not afraid to get his hands dirty if it means doing some good, and that adds a whole other layer of intrigue to the mix. And let's not forget about those misunderstandings! They're like the cherry on top, pushing the story in unexpected directions.Grammar: There is nothing to say here. perfect 5/5. No mistakes that detract readers from fully immersing themselves in the story.Overall, The Rivalry between Armand and Eris is a seriously fun read, blending mystery, romance, and a whole lot of drama into one addictive package. Give it a go!
- Abraham-DeWittRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall: This is a great political romance story. When reading it, you can see a realistic relationship form between two people. As the relationship forms, however, the two characters attempt to subtly manipulate the relationship into one where they get what they want. The story can be a bit heavy on the exposition sometimes, but that's made up for by the interesting world building.
Style: The author has a good writing style. You really get a good view into the characters' inner thoughts and motivations with the way the author writes. I like the author often switches perspectives while still maintaining narrative cohesion. I felt as though there was a bit too much exposition in some places, but that's ultimately a minor complaint. A story like this is naturally heavy on exposition.
Grammar: There were no grammatical errors as far as I could tell.
Story: I think the plot is the best aspect of this story. The story knows what it's about and where it's going. You know from the beginning that this is a love story between the two main characters. I like seeing the mental games between the two MCs. While the main romantic plot is going on, there are a number of smaller political plots occurring. I also like how the author set up a bunch of plot threads that I'm sure will be used in the future.
Character: The characters are engaging, and their motivations are easy to understand. I especially like the interactions between the two main characters and seeing them attempt to outmaneuver the other while they come closer to forming a relationship. Some of the side characters can seem a bit shallow at times, but that's just the nature of having a big cast. - Crown0Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a story about two cutthroat enemies who both regressed to their because of some spoiler reasons but turns out they love each other!? Surprise!!
Style: To be honest, the style is little shaky for my taste. Everything is kinda moving too fast when they could have expanded on them a little more and pov shifts are also not my favourite thing when they are present in the same chapter. How the first few chapters were a bit bare bones bother me but hey it's first few chapters anyway the author improves. Also in chapter 2 or 3 our FML thinks about her enemies, like every single one of them. Please, I don't need all of theirs description right now! You can just have her recall their names and then you can expand on them in later date. They seem pretty important to be forgotten but their descriptions are definitely forgotten when they are actually enters the story. That's all the complaints on style so it gets a bit of less score than others.
Story: It is what I expected it to be. It didn't betray what it promised and I want to know more about world building. The fact that this is not the usual copy pasted mediaeval europe alone makes me wonder more about it. I want to see more of it.
Grammar: No problem here for me.
Characters: They are good. Both of our protagonists have their distinct personality and room for lot of development. A lot more than what I'm comfortable with to be honest. It becomes harder to redeem them satisfactorily but if well done it can be awesome.
That mostly covers almost everything about my opinion on this story. - DabossUnberogenRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story is quite unique for this site, and is quite interesting in its depiction of gritty court intrigue. I liked the realism of the political systems within the book, and its general theme was well executed and well written. In addition, it actually has well written flashbacks, which are weaved into the story, which is a rarity on this site. However, enough preamble. Onto the review.
The style was good, and was concisely written. It wasn't flowery prose, nor was it barebones. It got the job done, which is all that matters. The breaks between segments were a bit jarring at first, but I got used to it.
The grammar was well done, and I did not seen any errors so far. Well done here.
The story was one of this book's strong suits, and I thought that it was very well written. I liked the low fantasy nature of the story, and it was quite well done. As mentioned earlier, the descriptions of courtly intrigue were a highlight of the novel.
The characters were richly designed, realistic, and quite well written. They all interacted with the world and each other in a compelling and intriguing manner. The story is definitely a character driven one, and this is one of its strengths.
Overall, well done. - DarkodiaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story presents a gripping tale of Armand Richelieu Concord, haunted by tragic memories and embroiled in a complex relationship with his enemy, Eris. The narrative skillfully weaves Armand's past and present, depicting his journey through immense loss, including the death of his family to the Orlock Plague and his challenging upbringing under the manipulative Regent Mortimer. In a dramatic twist, Armand turns back time to save Eris, only to find himself entangled in her schemes for power and survival.
Character development is a strong suit of the story, particularly in showcasing Armand's resilience and Eris's cunning nature. Their interactions, marked by a blend of mutual respect, antagonism, and an underlying complexity in their feelings, drive the plot. The author effectively uses flashbacks to build depth, revealing layers of their personalities and the harsh realities of their world.
The story excels in its portrayal of a dark, medieval setting, replete with political intrigue, betrayal, and a grim struggle for power. Overall, the story is a compelling read for those who enjoy intricate character-driven narratives set in a rich, historical fantasy world. Its exploration of themes like power, revenge, and the blurred lines between heroism and villainy offers much for the reader to ponder. - DimensionalWriter27Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style: The POV switch between the two main characters helps to make the story feel dynamic while giving an inside view into their thought process. The flashbacks that show the contrasts and similarities between the two leads are a highlight.
Story: A returner story, but this time its two people with excessive amounts of mental baggage instead of just one, with both of them working together, but out of their own self-interests to prevent one of the first major disasters in the story. With the only reason why any of the two would put up with this charade for any significant amount of time is that not doing so would be like giving up in both lead's minds.
Character: OH BOY, where do I even start...if I had to summarize the relationship between Eris and Armand it would be something like Romeo and Juliet, but Shakespeare took crack in the middle of writing it and that caused an absolute trainwreck that's SOMEHOW still on track and I absolutely love every second of it.
Grammar: English isn't my first language so take it with a grain of salt, but there were no errors here on my end, or at least I didn't see any. - El profe RyoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This review may be seen as too generous, but, I like this fiction and I want to encourage new readers to enjoy it.
Style. We begin with a little shortcoming, this fictions is full of dialogue and inside monologues, we live the story through the eyes of the characters. This makes every chapter personal and engaging, the reader ends up caring and paying attention, its full of historical references and even to the original depictions of clasic monsters. I am sadly not giving a perfect score because at the beginning, the dialogues sound unnatural, it lasts very shortly, though.
Story. This story is simply great, interesting, engaging, complex, I was promised a romance, and I got much more, I have rewritten this paragraph and decided to just leave it like this, I was filling it with spoilers. The cunning schemes, the supernatural elements, the mistery, the betrayals, the lore and scenery, I loved it all.
Character. I hate Eris, I get mad with Armand every two chapters, It should be enough to say, the depht of the characters is evident from the start, when a writer is capable to make you feel something deep for the characters you know they are well written. Even if what you feels is a burning hatred. Or a sincere concern.
Grammar. I didn't find any mistakes. Then again, I wasn't looking for them. Too engaged int he story.
Give it a chance, if you are the kind of reader who rejects a story because the cover depicts a romance, think again. You are losing a great chance to enjoy one of the best stories I read recently. - Eli'sPencilRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Story and CharactersSo far this is one of my favorite stories on here. I can one hundred percent see this as an anime and I’d be down for it. In a way, it sort of reminds me of Love is War, one of my favorite anime to watch. Without giving too much away, the two main characters are basically playing romance chess with each other to reach their end goal. Eris, the female lead, is amazing. She definitely steals the show.GrammarThe grammar is great as well. The only issue I have is the way the author does line breaks. I’m not sure how it is done, but there’s a line break feature. You don’t need to spam dashes on Royal Road. That’s all the negatives though. It’s a great read. I’ll be following along as the story progresses.StyleThe style of writing sort of reminds me of how a story like Death Note would be interpreted as a novel. I love how the characters spend almost entire chapters just thinking and planning, which makes the characters even more likable because I get to truly understand their motivations. It's a very fun read, I urge anyone to check it out.
- KLeo GertsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0"I Only Love My Greatest Enemy" is a refreshingly sharp and intelligent fantasy set in a richly imagined Early Modern world. This is not a story of swords and dragons, but of diplomacy, betrayal, shifting alliances, and a forbidden connection that defies reason. The author skillfully blends romance and politics into a narrative that feels both elegant and dangerous.
The strength of this story lies in its atmosphere and pacing. Courtly intrigue is handled with impressive realism, and the stakes feel high without needing to resort to spectacle. The world is layered with historical texture, from its political structures to its social customs, all delivered with confidence and clarity. While the first few chapters may overwhelm with names and references, readers can easily focus on the central thread of the plot without getting lost.
Dialogue plays a major role, shaping the tone and rhythm of the story. Through it, the tension builds naturally, and the relationships evolve with believable subtlety. Exposition is occasionally front-loaded, particularly in Chapter 2, but it doesn’t detract from the story’s forward momentum.
Thank you to the author for delivering such a compelling and romantic tale. "I Only Love My Greatest Enemy" is a sophisticated, emotionally resonant journey that stands out in its genre.👏
