Description
For dragons, those who dominate the food chain, growth is always a troublesome time. Left to fend for oneself with only a library of memories passed down as their inheritance, no fate is worse than being a failure before birth.
What can a small mutated hatchling do in such snowy outskirts? With few options besides magic, the Nexus provides a quick source of power, but that does not mean his enemies were without strength. Levels and stats are available to all in this dragon eat dragon wor-

- 1Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0TL;DR : There is no overarching plot yet, and I'm pretty far into this. The book revolves around a very odd dragon getting stronger. I really enjoy reading this, despite the odd premises.
Style : The style is brisk enough that I have not felt bored at all, despite some repetitive scenes. Some things aren't explained well, leaving me confused even after a scene ends.
Story : The entire plot so far is a dragon made of ice cream trying to survive in a LitRPG world, by learning magic, killing things, and eating things. It's an awesome never-ending blend of tangible progression.
Grammer : Grammer and technical aspects are never perfect, and while I certainly noticed a decent amount of issues, there was nothing severly impacting my ability to read the story and understand what was intended.
Character : The story starts with the birth of the character, so I do appreciate the systems implemented to make sure the dragon is able to gain intelligence despite being alone. Stories are always much more interesting if the main character is capable of complex thoughts, you get to peer into their thought process without a dramatic shift in tone. Otherwise, his actions and thoughts seem quite reasonable for his circumstances, nothing comes off as contrived to move along the story.
Overall : It's purely progression and evolution. This format probably won't appeal to everyone, but I find it extremely enjoyable. At the very least, if you enjoy LitRPG as a genre, I reccomend giving it a try! - Chaos JesterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A slow paced and entertaining mixture of slice of life and progression that is just as sweet as the mixture of vanilla and chocolate ice cream.
Typically around here, you either get a slice of life story that is a bit slow paced but fun, or you get a progression fantasy where the main character blitzes through their paces becoming overpowered. In A New Kind of Freak, bananalloy manages to combine the two to give the audience what I always thought progression was going to be: grinding through levels and achievement to show each stage of growth. I can see why some wouldn't like this style, but bananalloy never claimed otherwise, and the execution of it is well done.
Gramatically, I didn't notice any issues. I saw some suggested edits in the comments, and from what I can tell, they were fixed. Aside from that, I didn't recognize any typos, structual issues, or weird syntax errors.
The story itself (at least this early) is an interesting take on progression, fantasy, dragons, and litrpg in general. There is enough information as the story goes on to keep an audience interested, without hammering lore after lore over the reader's head. It is slow paced, as mentioned before, but that goes hand in hand with what the author is trying to achieve, so I would make sure that you're in the mood for a slower paced story.
The ice cream dragon (who as of where I am in the story, does not have a name) is an interesting character. From the jump, they are simultaneously discouraged from their existence and determined to rise above it. It works perfectly within the concept of the story.
Overall, this may not be an action packed fanservice-y story, but it is fun and intriguing, and gives up more variety around these parts. - CristianBoyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's cute. It's literpg. It's an ice-cream dragon. What's not to love?
We all need some cute in litrpg our lives after all the bloodshed all those other litrpgs have and this is what you need.
And hey, bananalloy is great. Vanilla ice cream is geat, but chocolate is objectively better. He agreed.
On another note,it's legit fun. Just give it a read. Prologue's nice too. - DanayRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm enjoying the story so far. It is a very unique premise and the world building has been internally consistent. The MC is cute and funny without being annoyingly naive which I've had a problem with in other stories. It has a few alternate character viewpoints which provide important additional information. Altogether it is still early in the story but it has the potential to be great.
- ElementalFireflyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I honestly enjoyed reading every chapter, the pov only changed to help flesh out the world building which by the way is incredibly detailed! The only thing i can say irked me a little is the whole ice-cream body thing hasnt really changed since the wafer scales but that could be being done for a reason 10/10
- cheesypotato96Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0My last review spoiled too much and there has since been a title change. Still a five star book you should read and enjoy. You're in for a sweet surprise reading about this dragon. So get reading. Like now. Must i go on? Too bad. Read it. Now. It's a DRAGON BOOK!
- tkaliusRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I've read to 43 through the Patreon.
The beginning was a bit weak, and I can understand why people think the ice cream aspect seemed like a pointless gimmick, but the author seems to be doing ok at actually addressing that in near chapter 28. Not giving any spoilers, there's some really cool things he could do with it, and i'm actually shocked he hasn't committed more to it and this aspect not brought to the story sooner.
While the story is very slow in the early chapters, it starts to pick up to almost a sprinting pace. I get the impression the author is overreacting to feedback from his readers. So my main criticism is just the pacing, and I expect it will take him a little bit to find his stride.
But even then, i'm still enjoying the read. - Arka Ie LaqRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0TLDR: Fun story about a literally walking ice cream dragon in a interesting world (or worlds?) governed by a system called The Nexus.
Disclaimer: As the review were written, there is currently 40 chapter availible. The review would be edited as the story progressed.
Onward to the real review then. The novel start about a dragon egg abandoned on a mountains range close to a human city. While cultural thing, the dragon egg should have been placed on a place far away from sapient races habitat so that the hatcling could mature peacefully. Being a really weak mutated dragon however made one of its parent decided that it should be put out of it's misery as early as possible. Unbeknown to the pair of dragon, that very mutation is also it's strenght.
Born as the weakest dragon in history due to his mutation, the MC is determined to be strong enough to be recognised as a proud member of the dragon race. A grand goal for a walking ice cream obviously.
Now if you read one of the review here, you might find someone said it was merely pointless gimmick. "It's a dragon made of ice cream. Which doesn't add much to the story, so it's a gimmick that has no point." I quote. Are we reading the same novel i wonder. The mutation was what made him really, really fragile. You could literally lick him until he dissappear. However it also what made him able to assimilate other's bloodline. Know that normal dragon and other creature such as human can do the same but in more limited way and required The Nexus, the system help.
Other review said that the system barely matter. It is clearly wrong because obviously the MC case is rare enough The Nexus itself made a quest for it and can even be talked directly about his mutation from time to time too. Not only that, it is through the system that the MC know about the assimilation progress of his bloodline. As for the other stuff said reviewer mentioned has been adressed by the author since i can't find them although i do agree the author could - yuplustRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Very action, survival and evolution packed emm soft? xianxia story.
Mc is a youngling, a dragon with an ice cream body possesing a magical taste and severe weaknesses. Dont worry youll love him even as young as he Is.
Theres plot but i didnt care much at the start. Now im intrigued by how this thing will go. - EdLincolnRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0This is a standard Monster Evolution story, and like many it can be a bit Murder-Hobo-ish. The cool thing about this is it introduces multiple different mechanisms for gaining power...which makes the Progression more varied interesting. Unfortunately, as it goes on even the author loses track of the methods the MC is using to gain power, wiith the result some plot threads are forgotten.
