Seriously I started reading this because the title made me laugh by the second chapter I knew that if there was a patreon to get more chapters I would be clicking on it so I could binge more than the 20 chapters that had been posted. Several hours later I'm at the last posted chapter and I soon as I finish this review I'll be heading over there.
Noct's storytelling is not only captivating he has the ability to infuse humor without going for the easy joke. I love the truly adult mind living in a child's body and not getting sucked into the lure of the lowest common denominator.
If you are hesitating ... don't. This story is worth every moment you spend reading it. - 1Bob20bob1Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love this story, it does have the slight cliche of mc struggling but always coming out on top at the end and honestly that just enhances the story’s trashiness. - ArilliusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The title says it all. I've never liked cultivation before reading this book. Honestly, I really want to find more like this right now.
Style
For style we're going to go straight into a simple answer. He really just nails the style of this story. It really does feel like a trash to treasure sort of story except it's just more trash at the end. It's fun trash. At times it even kind of feels like brain rot but like in a good way, and then at times it surprises you with how deep it can sometimes be.
Story
The story is also really good. It's consistently good too. You get a lot of what you want out of progression fantasy with this story, hitting all the right beats for growth and strength and even remembering the obscure things that characters are doing and then bringing it back in the long run. It doesn't always hold your hand with that, but I kind of appreciate that, and it gives you enough so that you understand how and why characters doing what as far as growth and power.
For the story in terms of interpersonal stuff, I would say that this also nails a very interesting balance that isekai normally fails, and that's having the character be a level of mature that is warranted for their age, and then as that character gets more freedom exploring who they are just beyond being an intelligent character. How they interact with others and motivations and general plots hit really well. I didn't think some plot points would actually work as well as they did, and while I will not say it's perfect, it is still definitely worth a five.
Character
I said a lot in story for this already but the characters are consistent, spot on, interesting, diverse of thought and motivation, and hit a great balance of gray morality that doesn't feel just like assholes. I hesitate to even use the word gray for the morality because it's more that motivations, actions and beliefs tend to be surprisingly deep so it doesn't even feel like it's a play on morality, except when it's very specifically co - DaithiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Fantastic read. Hooks you from page 1. I don't usually review stories with this few chapters. But. This story is fantastic. The main character is well thought out and its a wonderful reinterpretation of the trope. The MC does not get Over Powered too fast instead the learning and growth continues. The trash theme is very well done and the author clearly put time into it. I highly recommend you give this short read a try.
And best of luck to the author please continue writing for a long time to come! - Dao_of_BibliomaniaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is amazing! I love it! It is a completely unique with a fantastic premise that has never been seen before! It is full of creativity and just I cannot describe how good it is! It is a diamond in the rough! One must simply try it to understand how great it truly is!
- DeybrekRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is legitimately one of my favorite stories on RoyalRoad, and one completely deserving of five stars. Not just for the character work and the sense of humor, those are great; Rather because this story also has a neat take on Paths. Paths, in this story, appear to function in the way a personal approach to some kind of greater Dao might work in other, more traditional stories. When working towards your Path, you appear to gain insights and bonuses. And Rhys, our main character, has the Path of Trash. This is cleverly used multiple, multiple times, to make an MC with a truly unique powerset and outlook.
- CayRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0i'm not sure if this story should be considered gold or trash. but whichever way it is, it's a pleasure to read.
i'd highly recommend it to anyone chronically on RR, or just a weirdo. if there's a part of you that loves trashy nerdy overdone settings- fantasy, xianxia, 'system', weak-to-strong, isekie, fic, slow burns, etc - you'll probably love it. - IndigoSharpeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Five out of Five. Top tier trash would eat again! Solid character work, good pacing, and an interesting world. Altogether a very, very, very, trashy and enjoyable experience. I was expecting something that would be a bit too jokey and was pleasantly surprised to find something endearing, sharp, and witty.
- JFrog55Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Noct has had some other fantastic works and I'm excited to see where this one goes. The premise sounds a bit silly, but we don't dwell on it for very long and the story gets moving quickly. Each chapter has good length and it feels like I can sink into the story rather than getting a little thousand-word nibble before having to wait for the next release.
Style: 5/5
The first 5 chapters have done an excellent job in grounding the MC in the new world and his circumstances instead of going crazy with stats and blue boxes. It's an excellent baseline with which a cool system can be built but not be the main focus of the story.
Story: 5/5
It's a bit premature but I like the beginning. Like Noct's other works, the premise is funny and simple, and all the promise is delivered the via execution.
Grammar: 5/5
No notes, well-written and proofread as always. The prose is concise and effective, and doesn't meander like some other authors'.
Characters: 5/5
The MC is solid, has some layers to his character. I actually like the sidekick a lot more, he's got way more depth than I expected and I hope that we keep finding more. - LoganQRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It plays on tropes in new creative ways, while never letting the MC feel too overpowered. I've enjoyed every step of the journey so far. Give this book a try, it's pretty good and there's a character for everyone to enjoy.
"For a book with a trashy main character, it's damn good."
