Very well written, grabs you from the first page and just makes you want more!
Keep up the awesome work! - majorsilver99Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Just as the author warns, this book has a slow start, but once SJ makes it to the starter town, things quickly get more interesting. The world is complex, but the author clearly explains things as SJ comes upon them.
As for Dave, he seems very antagonistic towards our heroin at first, but with good reason. As the story progresses you see that Dave and the various other AIs have every right to despise Legionnaires and the chaos they bring. SJ just isn't like the rest.
Overall, an enjoyable read that I look forward to on my breaks. - maxwellauthorRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0An awesome story that I’m loving! The unique spin on a Fae along with the personal interactions make this a joy to read. And those battles! The author does a great job of pulling you into the moment and making you want to just keep going page after page. I look forward to where this story will go next!
- Mungo73Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Love it!
- Perfect speed: no rushing, but sub-plots are resolved within a few chapters, giving a sense of achievement
- Funny / witty
- Not using the usual stereotypes for races or plot resolution
- A feeling of lightheartedness
- Characters do undergo a personal development, e.g., the AI - Class: JonathonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's brilliant.
You know when you read a story on Royal Road and it's good except for...
There's none of that here.
Everything about One flew over the dragon's nest is throughly thought out, carefully considered and just straight up enjoyable. This is a story that accepts and works with tropes, but stays original regardless. It's easy to read, it's funny to read, without being cringy (ok mostly without being cringy... the AI sometimes does Dad jokes), and it's intelligent.
And that's the thing.
I read some other reviews, even the authors own synopsis, that says it starts slow. I didn't think it started slow, I thought it started like an isekai would actually start. Maybe it started how I think I would start if I was in the MC's position. Maybe 'slow' is relative. If you're enjoying the story, what does it matter?
That aside, once you get into the world of Amathea you aren't going to be disappointed. You'll get everything from termites to dragons in a few heart-stopping chapters. You'll get an MC who's good at contract law, might have been a different race if she'd had longer to think about it, and shouldn't be the class she picked, but is anyway. Aka: she's as relatable in her second life as any of us are in our first.
You're going to love it. - SaibinuRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I like stories with a female or non-human MC. I get both here.
But I don't want to highlight that right now. One of the strengths of the story is that it moves many characters at once. All are memorable and elaborated in detail. I know who or what each character is just by seeing their name. The author builds the characters and their motivations very well. This is something few people know.
The story is interesting, sometimes provides a bit of a slice-of-life feeling, but still doesn't break in its continuity.
We really see the way of life of the MC, which changes together with the town and its inhabitants. As if we were witnessing a hidden city-building story.
The author's writing style is very close to me. I like the third person point of view.
Even in spite of the many characters, it is easy to follow, because the characters are alive, moving, dynamic and unique. Therefore, the reader does not get lost in the multitude of caracteristics. The reader can get excited for all of them.
I really liked this novel. I hope I can read many more adventures of SJ and his friends. - Samantha NelsonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is a fun one, though it's a slower cup of tea.
Containing a chunk of slice of like, you'll find there is no hurry.
Much like myself, a gamer, she takes her precious time.
An avatar must be perfect; poor appearance is a crime.
Still, she's left the starting zone and headed off for more,
I'm looking forward to the journey as she's heading for a door.
Now for all those wondering, the system reigns supreme
with items, quests, and classes, and everything between.
The style is what you wish of it. A clean litrpg.
There's really not much more to say. There's no problem I could see.
The grammar is quite readable. Mistakes are rarely seen.
I'm sure you'll have no problem, looking at the screen.
The story is more slice of life mixed with discovery.
The villains are all out of view at least they are to me.
Still, the framework is impressive. I'm sure it will go far
so long as you're in for the haul as so many of us are.
The protag and the system are sitting in the front.
The system's a bit snarky, but it's fun and not too much.
The characters are refreshing. We're finally adding more.
I'm curious to learn about them all and add a bit of lore.
So come and join the dear SJ on her quest for something new.
Gather round and listen in. I think this one's for you. - phn11xRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I think I found the story over the "recommended for you" section on the page and boy was it worth clicking on that button!
This is one of the most wholesome stories I've read so far in this genre, and I can’t wait to read more about SJ, Dave and the world of Amathera. It just checks all the boxes for me. An inteligent MC, a fun AI friend, gods, Bob, and all the other things you expect in a fantasy world.
We're still in the starting town 50 chapters in, so I'm expecting a long ride and from the looks of it, the author is ready to deliver ;)
Style:
Sure, the setting is your standard fantasy world with all the species you would expect. But the fact that the MC counts as malware, as she didn’t sign the terms and conditions, brings it's own unique touch to the story and leads to the one or other advantage or problem. (Finally something different from the stereotypical "Hi, I'm an all powerful god, I like your hairstyle, here be OP!")
Story:
I thought about cutting a half star at the story rating as the story is slow, like really slow so far. But it would be unfair to the author, as it's more than once mentioned in the description. Plus, so far all the chapters feel like they belong, and there are no unnecessary fillers in my opinion.
Grammar:
Nothing major besides the one or other typo which the author fixes as soon as someone spots it.
Charakter:
Probably also belonging to the style part, but I really like that the MC can switch between two different fae forms. It's the first time I see the fae charakter portrayed like this, and it just feels right.
Other than that, the MC is acting intelligent, Dave is the best with his jokes and unique personality, and the side charakters are well written and have a life besides the interactions with the MC. - Magius SwiftscaleRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0**Disclaimer - The reviewer is an author friend**
I took a good long look at this one, and I'm a sucker for odd-couple stories. This one hit all the checkboxes for me--a girl thrown into a world she didn't expect, and rejecting a system of control on herself, and being paired with a snarky, slightly eccentric AI.
While this is still early in its life, there are already indications that life is about to get pretty crazy for SJ and Dave, in ways they never thought possible. The strongest draw of this so far is their slightly dysfunctional, and hilarious relationship. I just love some of Dave's reactions when SJ kind of implodes his world, and he responds in turn by being slightly less than helpful at times, but also extremely helpful in critical moments. I can only imagine the rapport they've built so far will continue to grow. This is the heart of the story so far, and it's a very solid core.
The world of Amathera is still in the training zone, but there's already enough lore about the nature of the world itself that leave me intrigued and wanting more. Will SJ keep to her noble intentions of trying to bring good in the world, or will the inherent nature of her class win out? I'll be tuning into this one for sure!
