...so Clive discovers on a night to remember. From hopeful new restaurant owner, to desperately fleeing demons and all manner of creatures. To survive, he’s going to need some serious help from friends, both old and new as he is portaled into a deeply troubled world full of magic and prejudice.
There is greatness, there is wonder, yet there is shame and despair in equal measure.
Despite attempts to be virtuous, more often than not it is anger, fear and lust that drive our all too human protagonists.
They are weak in a world full of strength and all they have is their determ… belligerence to stay alive.
While power will come, it will not always come easy.

- hotdog247Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a fun read. I enjoy reading about all the characters and the world is developed and makes sense. It's one of those serials where you can't wait for the next chapter to come out. I think this is one of the better stories on Royalroad. I'm surprised more people haven't picked this up. I hope this series continues for a while and I have downloaded the kindle version that just came out. Keep up the great job author!

The best thing about this writing in my opinion is the humor, there's just something about it that kills me.
I hope you keep the series going for a long while - glenncccRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a very well written and very funny story. For me the star of the show is how the MC Clive and his mates take the p#ss out of each other, and make jokes even when they are in tight situations with the bad guys, typical British humour and very funny. The story is still developing at this point, but is coming together well and is nicely paced. The characters are finding their feet and are working well together. Overall, this is looking like a great read and is definitely one to follow.
- grimmashadowRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a gripping story with some inconsistencies in detail and grammar they make it clear no one is editing this before it comes out. That said, if you can look past the issues it’s a fantastic yarn. The audiobook is great!
The main character is absolutely flawed and satisfyingly OP, if you’re into that. The entire story seems like it was plotted out ahead of time, and there’s an ending in sight.
My only issues are that it’s somewhat hard to read due to plot holes, grammatical errors and stray quotation marks/lack thereof. I hope the author invests in a good copy editor or grammarly before getting to the next story. That said, I will read it or listen on audiobook because I’m invested in hearing more about this world!
Regarding plot holes, the author introduces a character with lots of foreboding and we never hear of him again, sometimes stat point math seems off, certain parts of the magic system are frustratingly vague (is neutral neuma something anyone can use or is it a combination of all neumas?) and some characters are old enough to remember historical events that are later described as preceding their lifespan.
In summary, this is a great premise and an entertaining read that needs a full editing in order to be truly epic. It has the potential to be as good as the best of them, but some gaps and inconsistency in details bumps it down a few notches. Still a fantastic read I recommend for anyone who can be forgiving. - CiainaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Pretty wild ride.
People from our moder sensibities thrown into a MASSIVELY different setting. If you thought you knew violent culture shock, you are probably right.
But since in that case you are probably in a cell in some Asian country, you cannot disprove so this is the safest alternative!!!
Give it a try!! - Dimitrios GkirgkirisRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0You know it's good when you see a Baatazu demon on chapter 1!
I love the premise and Clive is a breath of fresh air compared to the majority of MCs in other stories who are the typical edgelords.
Formatting can also be kinda hit or miss with LitRPG but this one's solid.
I can't wait to see where this is going ^_^ - Hado_99_UserRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Honestly, I came to this novel like I do on any other novel on this site with a big grain of salt. And I can tell you I ate that piece of salt and I'm sitting here for the rest of this novel. Because this novel is just a chef kiss of everything I didn't even know I wanted!
If your looking for a good read then you Definitely found the right place, and his upload speed is pretty good as well so that's a big plus as well heh. - MattMcCormickRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've been reading since volume one and become very fond of Clive, who with his rough edges and flaws is a big step above the standard issue LitRPG protagonist.
You know what else this series has, a plan. No writing for patreon here. I'll miss Clive when he is gone but I'm glad we won't suffer through needless padding. - TimKaiverRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Very easy to get into this story. We see conflict right away with enough worldbuilding and high stakes to keep me interested in what will happen next and how the main character will survive. Interesting twists on the apocalypse rpg with the quest being a mysterious recipe book. I really like the main character. He's not perfect but is a fighter and will likely prove himself resourceful. It's interesting that they can't see their stats right away, but then can read upgrades. Funny moments in the dialogue and in the exchange with friends about the sock weapon. Chapter length lends well to binge reading. I like the demon freak ninja because he seems like a credible threat, has cool powers and is also kinda scary. Nice descriptions throughout including the demons face. I am intrigued at when we will see the woman again and how the tension will remain with how powerful she is at that high level. So far so good as she was just there shortly, but I wouldn't want her saving them too frequently/ though I'm sure that's not the plan. The setup has solid traditional role playing game post apocalyptic tropes for beginner skills but is also unique as they have to be creative with what they have. I like that they can advance quickly at the start of the story based on prior experience in some areas. That will help move it along quickly to some epic butt kicking , or butt sock rocking, if I may.
- VeryAnonymousDudeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0As a previous reviewer said, this novel quickly becomes the highlight of the day when it is updated. This is due in equal parts to writing style, and the way the characters and story is developed.
Story
The story seems well planned out. Perceived danger to the main character & Co progresses nicely with character/faction power growth, while the author lays the groundwork in foreshadowing future threats and increases in power.
The skill/power development of the main character is sufficiently new and inventive to be interesting, while still giving you the feeling that the author knows where further progress i headed.
The author does a good jobb of keeping the reader aware of the big-picture plot developments and threats while still keeping most of the focus on more current affairs. You wont open a new chapter on Wednesday and be greeted with a "meanwhile elsewhere" chapter in stead of the continuation from Tuesday that you were looking forward to.
Character
The story's characters are in my opinion all well written. Each character is unique and consistent in their personality, while still showing growth. So far in the story several characters have shifted from antagonists to allies and vice versa, and this has been done very well. Characters shift in organic ways as oposed to having sudden changes of heart when the story calls for it. Another sign of a well planned novel.
Style
The story is very character-focused. Big things are happening everywhere at all times, but the reader learns most things through character interactions instead of naration, flashbacks, "meanwhile-elsewhere's" etc. which does a lot to keep the story flowing without the reader being joltet from one scene to the next.
Grammar
One comment and one comment only:
Proofreading for open (and double-closed) quotation marks please!
Otherwise spotless as far as i can tell.
Summary
Some stories need to sit in storage for a while so we can binge read a larger number of chapters. For myself this is so I can get
