This may be an early review, but it’s clear to see
This will be a another masterpiece of fantasy
It draws you in right from the start with its alluring style
Prose like this only appears on here once in a while
The style of Firebrand feels a bit traditional but new
The pacing and the formatting all feel just perfect too
The author doesn’t waste a word, it’s skillfully concise
But still the atmosphere and worldbuilding are really nice
The story is just getting started, but it has a hook
Magic schools will draw most people in to any book
Based on how it’s shaping up, I think it’s pretty good
It’s a great first chapter to build off of, knock on wood!
The magic system is one of my favourite these days
Using basic elements in new creative ways
The world that Martel lives in is an unforgiving land
And it seems he’s gone through trials we don’t yet understand
The characters so far are likeable and so unique
They all have their own way of talking every time they speak
The main character is still a mystery, it’s true
But even the side characters quickly grow on you
The grammar is just perfect, it’s professionally done
I’d be shocked if there were typoes found by anyone
Quill has quite the language skills, I’m already impressed
That helps this web novel to stand out among the rest
In conclusion, go jump into this new adventure
You’ll enjoy it more than reading this review, I’m sure
I hope this bard has done some justice to Quill’s work of art
Let’s all sing the story of the Firebrand known as Mart

I've read one of the authors other fictions on royal road before, and honestly I was excited when I saw that they released another fiction and they have not disappointed my expectations.
My recommendation is to read it, the story is great and the world and characters feel fleshed out and the system of magic in the world feels familiar while still being different enough that you don't know everything. The grammar is pretty great too, and every sentence flows together without any issues. All in all good job Quill.

If slow(er) burn and numbers not going brrr  are not for you, dont read this, it's probably not for you.
I've been reading it since the early days and the author is really consistent with chapter releases.  Each chapter feels short but the cliffhangers, if any don't leave you frustrated. Somehow I'm satisfied with each chapter, perhaps it's the consistency of the chapters, knowing the next one is coming.
Style wise, it fits well into those fantasy books that last over multiple books. There's no rush. There are different arcs with a long arc in one place but an evolution in the character.
Grammar is great, rarely see a typo. Have no complaints
Storywise and character wise, I can see some people not liking elements of it. The character is a bit of a country bumpkin and a clueless and the story follows this mindset. There are no romances, even if there are hints and it suits a character who isn't really knowledgeable of these things. That suits me. Some people may find this frustrating. The supporting characters are well fleshed out but bear in mind the POV is from the main character with lack of awareness so there's not a deep analysis of the supporting characters and some elements are taken at face value and generally  the characters don't change dramatically. For me this makes sense, it's not over a long period of time, the character has a limited social skills. Again some people can find this frustrating.
I understand it might not be your cup of tea, if it isn't please read the reviews and be nice. I don't get why people would criticise it being a slow burn... When it's a slow burn story.

Martel is a boy who enlists in a magic school, a bit later than he should have, with younger students and an frightening aptitude for fire.
A very simple premise. A main character in a magic school and hidden powers. A story like many others, a dime in a dozen. You can't throw a rock without hitting a story with a similar idea within it.
But not all stories are written equally, and the experience and talent of the author shows well in this one.
The thing with simple settings written well is when an author explores them in a manner that allows them to flesh out through the simplicity into complexity, and we see this happening here. The wide cast of characters interactions with one another, the simple plot that blooms out into multiple others, and the very likeable but similarly simple main character.
Everything from the increasing cast of characters to the lore and prose help carry such a simple story into a more interesting realm, in a slow paced relaxed manner -- in the time of this review, at least. The story carries itself through action and scenes well.
If you are looking for a powerful recommendation, you will never regret this being the one.

Writing is superb so far, as authors previous works promised.
The hero is still at the start of his journey so its not clear what will happen, but the revealed information hints at a well thought out world and system of magic.
And for readers that like character sheets, author provides them in chapter notes.

Pretty well written comfort read, plot is slowly picking up but you can see threads of a larger one. My only issue being that the MC makes kinda naive decisions but beyond that there's not much issue with the plot. Cant wait for more :)

Kind of a slow-ish start as a young teen gets his feet wet at the Magic Academy.
The quality of writing is solid however and promises a rousing tale as we progress further into the story!
Updates are frequent too. This review also needs fifty words so here are a few to pad that stat...

As of this review, I've yet to see a single missed beat. Great pacing, well-written characters and most likely on track to be one of the best books with in the 'magic academy' group, if not even the fantasy and progression tags aswell.
I'm especially fond of characters being introduced, they're introduced when they need to be and are fleshed out perfectly, likewise, as need be. Neither too little, nor too much.
Well worth a read, it's been a real joy, like warm applecider on a cold day.

I'm personally very pleased with this story. his pace of improvement feels more keen to real life than the massive op jumps that happen in many stories. The story chapters are short and update regularly, which makes it a very pleasant little read to do on a regular basis. MC e is altruistic to the point that it causes him problems, but he's a teenager, a teenager from rural town now in the big city. his flaw with that is pointed out by his friend eleanor, so it's not as though people around him think his behavior is reasonable.reliable tiered magic system, interesting concept of people who get magic being random, rather than genetic. Some other cool features about magic and how to boost it or diminish it.

A really good and simple story, with clear and precise characters' devolpement.
Good english, and very readable too.
There are signs of the bigger picture from the first chapter and the beauty of it is how organic to the story of Martel it is.
I love how the narrator is absent from the narrative: too often there are comments in the narration of a story here on royal road that feel like you are reading the take of a very overly drammatic narrator, more then the narration of a story.(sorry for saying narrator too many times)
Overall, if the story keeps going as it has been it can reach a top spot in terms of quality on this platform.
