- Blind_WatcherRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0An interesting blend of Sci-fi and fantasy. Seems to hit its stride around chapter eight, after the majority of the exposition is dealt with. I liked the minimalist Litrpg elements as a nice change of pace from other stories I have been reading recently.
Definitely worth checking out if you are looking for sometihng different. - KwokatronRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This novel is great, feels very refreshing to have such a different kind of story written so well.
The story is cohesive, the characters feel alive and even though we know little of the world, it feels as if it's very fleshed out and easy to imagine. Hopefully this review is what puts this novel into rising stars because by god it belongs there. - blueinthewaterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The universe feels extremely deep as we've only skimmed the surface so far, but you can tell it's one where the author either clearly intimately knows the setting they're writting in, or has a solid vision of where they want to take it. I look forwards to learning more of 281's past and how he came to be. The dark undertone of their origins and its possible implications really keep you hooked as they churn in your head and you read along, eagar to watch them succeed and hoping they finally get closure.
I'm loving the character and story progression, even if the story slows down a little as it nears the current hiatus point, but it feels natural as our MCs make it out of a very long day and the reader gets to catch a break with them.
For the writting itself, it reads as a very well blended fantasy/scifi story that has a touch of LitRPG which gives the magic system a little flair without feeling overbearing. If i had to put it simply; it's a story with genres, not genres with a story set in them. - nerdy_asian27Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I had a funny thing going on where I decided to read this story while listening to some metal as background music. Safe to say that it really enhanced my immersion, especially by how wonderfully the author was able to implement fluid descriptions to some very awesome action scenes that take place!
Style 5/5: My reading experience sailed by pretty smoothly. As I had also previously mentioned, the actions scenes for this story were well crafted and thoroughly described. Like holy crap I was on the edge of my seat for some of them! The style is awesome!
Grammar 5/5: No errors. Plain and simple. Take a 5!
Story 4/5: Yeah...I'm not entirely sold on the story just yet. Perhaps it's due to the fact that I've only read up to the first 10 chapters so there might be some bias here and there. However, from as far as I read, I'm very unsure as to where the story would go. Some parts happened a bit too quickly without much development, and as much as I praise the action scenes in this narrative, I was never really able to catch a breather. If I ever get back to the story at a later time, then I might be willing to change my score. But for now, you get yourself a solid 4!
Character 5/5: Everyone in this story has a personality that I find quite charming and often times humorous. I thoroughly enjoyed the chapters with eX-0704 and Disco Menace. Their interactions were TOP NOTCH! I even won't go deep into this because I encourage people to read for themselves how entertaining their dynamic was. Also the whole clone dilemma really adds a sense of intrigue and morality within our protagonists. Great freaking characters all around.
Overall, this fiction is solid and very great in many aspects. The fact that this story made it to Rising Stars is very well deserved. If you ever have the time, please give this story a read! - slc9150Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is highkey my favorite story. It’s action packed with intriguing characters. We have two dragon bois that go on an adventure together in search of the one-piece (friendship), despite their icey interiors.
They’re ice magic users which is pretty funny because in this story, they’re reptiles that don’t like the cold and want sun on their scales. eX-0281 is the best. He is a 4 dimensional, extremely well rounded character. The dragons have a well designed flaw in that they have impulsive lizard brains, and make rash in-character decisions which lead them into trouble (in the best of ways). As someone who absolutely despises stupid characters, I really enjoy these dragon bois!
The story is well paced, lots of action but also so well written that you get a sense of the setting and characters in the midst of the adventure. It feels like a realistic mission to escape the city (not Tarkov) and the megacorporation because they have complications at multiple points. The setting is insanely interesting. We go from an underground city to a radioactive landscape where there’s magical mutant creatures running around.
Finally, the grammar in this story is perfect as far as I can tell. In conclusion, if you have not read this story yet, then you are missing out because this is seriously the best story on the site. - Consistent MilkRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Very unassuming title with a pretty generic name and a not-so-interesting synopsis(quite enthralling now as it was edited later) - at least in my personal opinion. Then why the five? Simple, I was just completely wrong. Quite a cognitive dissonance this one.
After reading the first chapter it felt anything but generic. In the second chapter we have our MC sub-dragon soldier fighting with his clone, and then planning something 'interesting' with another one of his clones. A very interesting and comedic scenario. Overall, it was interesting, unexpected, and funny. Highly recommend giving it a chance. - CruisusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Managed to read up to chapter 34 in about 4-5 hours, which is good. For me that means it's probably sitting at about the equivelent of 180-230 pages.
Seems to be really well edited.
The characters seem to be well fleshed out.
All in all I'm looking forward to more, and it's definitely one to keep an eye on. - D.C.VeilingRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Only five chapters in, and I'm already hooked!
Sub-Dragon Soldier is a mix of Fantasy, LitRPG and Sci-fi with plenty of action and humour right off the bat.
There is also a nice story twist coming early on, so I won't go into summarising the story here (I wouldn't want to spoiler this). But I can tell you what is awaiting you in general so far:
Nice flowing style and no grammar issues (so far)
Fantasy and magic elements as well as a sci-fi/suburban setting (felt a lot like Final Fantasy VII for me )
Characters that gripped me from the start and really made me want to get to know them better
LitRPG elements in proper doses (we are not getting flooded with stat sheets and it only adds to the atmosphere of the setting.
I can recommend this to anyone who likes either of the genres – just give it a try! - DzztRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is my first review so bear with me.
Style: I love it. Everything flows well and the back and forth between characters is great. I never find myself getting hung up on anything or being particularly confused at any point. The gamelit system is lightweight from what I've seen, but that lets other aspects of the story shine.
Story: The story shows a lot of promise. My favorite aspect is the world building and the author has really set up an interesting world to explore. There is just enough of a mystery to keep me reading from chapter to chapter. I'm excited to see what direction the story is going in and what the world has to offer.
Character: The characters are great. The author doesn't shy away from designing characters with negative traits and uses those characters effectively. The dialogue has been really fun to read and witnessing the characters interact is always a joy.
I find that writing good characters is one of the most difficult aspects of designing a story and the author here appears to have put in a lot of effort to make their characters interesting and diverse.
Grammar: The author has a significantly better grasp of grammar than I do. - HexenblumeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style: The style is great! It has good descriptions of the actions and scenery that the author is trying to make the reader imagine. I have trouble with visualizing, but the clear and simple descriptions in this book helps me imagine everything with ease. The first chapter does really well to hook readers with its high energy and fun atmosphere, it's action-packed and leaves you with questions regarding who certain people are.
Grammar: I'm not an English teacher and English is my second language so 5/5 cause I'm not qualified.
Characters: First chapter and I already know who my favorite character will be. The characters are written very well and they all have their own fun little quirks. Their personalities are super likeable and I think their communication and dialogue with each other is fun. I love how they talk, it fit them perfectly and it's almost like I can hear their voice, so props to the author for that! They gave the characters distinct voices in-line with their characterization and personalities, which is, in my opinion, very difficult!
Story: I mean… it's dragons, fantasy, and LitRPG, three of the best things (in my humble opinion) all combined into one! The story is great, it has the perfect mix of action and dragons with machine and sci-fi stuff, but also lore and actual plot movement. It doesn't get too deep into the action, nor does it get boring with it being story 24/7, it's a good balance of both that will keep you interested and hitting that next chapter button!
Im not a big fan of sci-fi, so for a book to hook a non-sci-fi reader's attention, and keep it there despite said reader having the attention span of a drowning goldfish with short-term-memory loss, it must be super special! Absolutely recommend this for Sci-Fi readers. And definitely for LitRPG ones, the skill names and the whole system for the RPG part of the book is done well and cleanly.
