Description
Cursed. Royal. …Currently unemployed. Princess Seventra of House Veil was once the kingdom’s most notorious gambler—until a bitter rival framed her for cheating and her family cast her aside like a bad habit. Now she’s exiled, bitter, and desperate for revenge. But Seven isn’t done playing. When she traces her rival to Lucky Mining Corporation, a corrupt corporate empire of contracts, greed, and dice shards, Seven takes a job there to find evidence to clear her name. Beneath the gold lies something darker—vanished miners, buried magic, and a conspiracy that ties back to her own bloodline. Armed with a gambling problem, a wise-cracking slime, and a lawyer-turned-miner, she’s ready to play dirty. But the deeper she digs, the clearer it becomes: her curse isn’t a flaw—it’s a weapon. And if fate won’t play fair, she’ll load the dice herself. What to Expect: - Fantasy with my take on light LitRPG and progression elements.- Starts rough/serious for the MC and grows more comedic as the story goes on.- Slow build from failure to competence. Early chapters focus on struggle and setup before power growth kicks in.- Some light HUDs throughout, mostly related to the dice. What Not To Expect: - No walls of blue windows, level-up screens, etc. Use of such objects is light. - No instant wins all the time. MC WILL lose sometimes. - In case the first point wasn't clear, NO system.

- CervineComedyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Seven is a delightfully flawed protagonist that I find myself rooting for just as much as I face palm at her decisions. Added to this is the fascinating setting and the nature of the dice. I binge read everything that was available in one go, and as a person who loved dice games, I’m eagerly looking forward to more!
The writing style sets the mood perfectly, with the right level of description and pacing. The use of grammar is also spot on and I didn’t spot any errors or typos. I’d personally say that this quality of writing this early in the story is a fantastic sign of things to come
The characters all feel distinct and have their own voices which helps with the flow of the story.
the focus on gambling is a nice touch, given the nature of the dice, and I feel it serves as a good metaphor for Seven’s struggles. It gives her solid motivation, and an simultaneous internal and external conflict to overcome.
I find the story, as I’ve said before, very well done snd can see myself easily coming back regularly to follow Seven’s journey into whatever shenaniganery shes going to find inevitably herself.
Keep up the good work! - ElectrikBlueRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Review of the first part of the story before she arrives at LMC.
Story and Style: I quite like how it's structured, you've got a crescendo, mysterious investigation where you see the pieces move across the board. It shines particularly in its dialogues and the sense of symbolism. Along with solid descriptions, it's easy to get a sense of this universe. The back and forth between characters, especially sprinkled with world-building, is efficient and draws you in.
The concept of powered dice and the way they work really feels unique to me and seems to tread in HxH or Jojo grounds with people each having unique styles.
The blend between fantasy and more sci-fi-sounding concepts is great, with the giant arenas for Beggar's Chance and the magic-powered effects. They layer the story and give it a really cool aspect.
Grammar: Do tend to dislike some sentences that are a bit drawn in their grammatical structures, but overall, it's really well written.
Character: The MC, Seven, cool name btw, immediately stands out. She's relatable and funny, but not outright insecure, even through the tough situations and the shit that's thrown at her, she holds her head high. The way we meet the characters along the way is well done, even if apparently, I still have yet to meet the real supporting characters, but they all felt dense and interesting.
Overall, looking forward to reading more. Would be surprised if it didn't perform very well as time goes by, seeing as it has already made a good following base. - GhostcatRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0When a person's fascinations override sense, the signs are there but they've dulled the rational implications of a fall, the consequences make for a good story. Seventra is a cool name. Just sayin'. She's got drive, ambition, and an unusual affliction that does some serious plot-driving. Too bad her ambition is somewhat misguided, at first, and yet, isn't that what stories do? Set up imperfect heroes that will hopefully gain redemption by the end?
The concept of mined stone turned into dice used for both magic and power is pretty unique. It ties into the idea of a society that seems to treat luck as a god of sorts. In this story, gambling doesn't have as much stigma, since the world is built around it, and yet it also shows the blurry lines of going too far in a society that thrives on metaphors of luck and risk.
Style: Good readability, not a lot of flowery prose, but a few strong, hard-hitting lines that give some satisfaction in every chapter.
Grammar: Good. Sentence structure is strong. Few tweaks need to be made to make this ready for sales.
Story: Good. A few things are left more to the reader's imagination than I'd personally prefer, but that could be, like I said, personal. Overall, Seven's been through some stuff and hit a few unexpected twists, so it's been satisfying to this point.
Character: Seventra. She embodies the spirit of an addict with a good heart but questionable morals. If you enjoy a character like that, Seven is for you. She has a small cast of friends and family that don't spend much time doing more than being momentary foils at this point in her journey, but this little lone wolf might yet find herself something to attach to.
If you like a heroine with a fire in her heart and an urge to compete, despite the wisdom of playing, this might be the story for you. - NyxarisRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really like Seven. Sometimes she pisses me off, but that’s part of why I’m so invested in her. I want her to succeed. I want her to find her footing, reclaim her power as a princess, and actually get a good life after everything she’s been through. It’s not often that I feel this connected to a character, but the way Gabs wrote her made it impossible not to care. Seven is flawed, stubborn, emotional, and super messy, but that's what connects with me as a reader and what brings her as a person to life.
The worldbuilding is also really strong. It’s immersive without being too overwhelming, and every chapter pulls you in. I found myself lingering on small details just because they made the world feel so alive. I’m genuinely excited and anxious to see how Seven tries to get her life back, and what Gabs has planned for her moving forward.
As always with Gab’s work, you get a story that’s not only engaging but also cleanly written, with good prose, an deeply interesting character you can't help but connect with. The style here is a bit different from her other works, so just keep that in mind going in. Personally, I prefer her style in Ashes, which is why I took off half a star but that’s my personal perspective. Overall, this is a captivating and fun read. - rhekkeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0People are often more defined by their failures and vices than their successes and virtues. It's difficult to write a character with deep, systemic flaws, and even more so to make them key to the character's motivations and actions. Fortune Favors the Fall succeeds at both.
The main character, Seven, is defined by her addiction to gambling. However, it's not just layered on her character; as the story progresses, we see it reflected in how she sees the world, how it drives her interactions with other characters and how it influences her morals and judgement. Conversely, we also learn more about how events of her past led to her flaw developing; the author skillfully weaves how it came to be in an organic fashion.
The supporting characters are also well written, with motivations of their own often not dependent on what Seven wants or is doing. Seven is not powerful, is not politically important, and is not highly skilled outside of her particular strengths.
The plot conflicts are also both driven by and respond to Seven's own decisions, to both successes and failures. The magic built into this setting is interesting, with hints of a deeper framework not yet revealed. The nature on how the antagonists function is chillingly accurate and believable.
The villains' use of debt slavery draws deeply on the both company towns of the past and predatory loan practices of today.
All in all, this is a story which offers a fascinating but believable setting and a wonderfully executed flawed main character.
