Fate Weaver's Legacy [LitRPG with stream chat]

Description
“Chat! Help! I’ve been isekai’d!”
Those were the first words I said after the system granted me a skill that supposedly streamed everything I did back to Earth.
I still had no idea why I’d hatched from an egg as my old Vcuber model, nor why this other world was so eerily devoid of life, but hey! At least I had chat to keep me company now.
Still, I just wished the dungeons in this world weren’t so… weird. Seriously.
Killer robots assembling themselves from a crashed spaceship?
Sentient towels in a water park’s locker room trying to smother me?
An office building filled with zombies in suits and flying staplers?!
What even is this?!

- FaquarlRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a great read, one of the most entertaining and original that I've seen, the premise is not only original, but well executed, managing to capture the feel of an streamer's chat without cluttering the story with a bombardment of emotes and other things that a real chat has. Also manages its protagonist well, and this in spite of being the only character truly present, the chatters manage to fulfill the roles of the supporting cast remarkably well even if they can't directly affect anything apart from commenting. Overall and enjoyable and very much recommended read in my opinion.

Thanks BC for the story. - TheShadowSlayer_Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Fate Weaver’s Legacy (specifically Arc 1: Desolation) is a fantastic book. The main gimmick we are hooked on (the streamer chat) is fun, interesting, and feels like an actual chat window you’d read from a stream. The System is streamlined, light on numbers, and full of interesting combinations and synergies. That, combined with the “Daily Grind”/SCP vibe we get from the world gives us a wonderful mix of entertainment that had me binge the whole series in a single day.
Now, for those advance review requirements.
Stylistically, there’s not much to say. It’s first person fixed POV, so we are forced to learn about the (many) mysteries alongside all the characters, which I for one approve of. Chat dialog is inserted diegetically when relevant, and doesn’t steal the show. More often than not, it feels like the protagonist is having normal conversations with people just out of sight as she speculated and strategizes with them. System text is short and coherent, lacking any massive text walls or rows of numbers.
In regards to the grammar, everything flows smoothly. People talk like people, narration concisely describes settings without falling into purple prose, and everything just reads well. I never had any issues on this front.
In terms of story, we get a bit of a mix. The world the protagonist is dropped into is chillingly empty and weirdly artificial, and we have very few clues to who put her there or why. We follow her around as she explores weird space-bending dungeons, similar in vibe to something from the SCP Foundation. It’s just her and her chat, who slowly realize she’s not RPing as she explores, cries, fights, and gets ever closer to a total breakdown.
As for the characters, we have an interesting setup. Technically, the only full character is our protagonist, Nana. She’s a deep, complex person with many issues but a willingness to push forward, and an incredibly authentic balance of mental-breakdown-to-enjoying-magic ratio. In the first arc, every single other - Zenopath (AEV)Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall I really enjoyed this novel. Is the twist that the protagonist has some sort of connection back to the real world via a (Not) Twitch stream an important aspect of the story plotwise? Not really.
What it does do however is allow the author to have his/her cake and eat it too. Basically you have a lone survivor type LitRPG which are always fairly entertaining combined with enough dialog and character interaction to keep things interesting without relying on much inner monolog. Basically the MC has an ever present source of human interaction abeit in limited form. It sort of reminds me of novels where the MC has an invisible system helper or ghost companion. Maybe because of the constant attention the MC seems a little more prone to mild mental breakdowns than usual, but that makes him/her more relatable, I guess. Maybe having the chat watching all the time makes it harder to process the usual existential crisis any Isekai protag goes through. The chat ability also serves to flesh out the MC's personality as a regular guy/girl who wants to go back to his/her life. Other than that, there's hints that eventually the MC will be able to use the chat for more than just company, as there are upgrades that might make this odd ability more useful than occasionally offering advice and mapping.
Independently from the streamer twist the overall story is good. It has well-written prose, fairly good action scenes, and various mysterious elements aside from the obvious one of why did the system gave the MC a chat ability. In short, this novel is a very enjoyable read, am looking forward to seeing where it goes.
P.S. The MC was male but reincarnated female. This has little impact on story but did leave me uncertain about which pronoun I should use. If he/she does go back, will he/she get old body back? Unclear. - LunavieRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5So far I am loving this so much. Maybe its because of all the streamers i watch but it has me hooked. The chatters feel like real chatters. It pulled me into the world. Only did 4.5 stars because sometimes the world isnt fully painted and i have to add details myself. i cant wait to read more!
