- OmniLightningRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5A must-read for those who like tower climb stories. Has a good mix of action and world-building. Introduces the first floor in a unique way, administering a test that quickly becomes a competition. Features an intelligent and cunning MC who quickly learns to use his unique talents against the more experienced and trained competitors.
Style: Moves at a good pace, thoroughly explaining events and fleshing out characters as it goes. Has a good balance of martial arts and magic, making the fight scenes lively. Doesn’t take the usual route where everything goes the MC’s way, giving the story a more realistic approach.
Grammar: Some issues toward the beginning that need addressing, but nothing too distracting.
Character: Charters are unique and believable. MC has little experience with others and is thrust into a situation where he is forced to quickly learn about the world about him and how to analyze people in a way he has never had to before.
Story: A gripping, slow start. Pulls readers into the life of an MC who was isolated from others and trained his entire life to use magic. Has a unique approach to the integration of LitRPG moments such as a system, without it being intrusive or overpowering the main story. - VillainryRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The blend of a unique magic system, an intriguing world, and well-developed characters makes it really compelling. The story mixes slower character moments with high-tension action, and this keeps you hooked. It has the potential to be a must-read in the progression fantasy genre.
Story: The story is captivating. It starts off with August living in a hut, and you see how he develops his skills in using arcane for maintenance. Things change when a Lord shows up and takes him to the Tower. The pacing is well done: it starts with a slower pace, and it focuses on character and world-building. The story really picks up when August is inside the tower. The first trial in the tower is a great hook, throwing the characters straight into the deep end.
Style: The writing style here is pretty engaging. It's easy to read, but the author does a great job of adding details that really make the world come alive. For instance, the way August uses his arcane for things like fixing the roof or dealing with bugs isn't just a flashy display of magic, but a practical, everyday thing. The descriptions are clear without being too descriptive, painting a vivid picture without slowing you down. When the story moves into the Tower, the atmosphere changes, going from a quiet, rustic feel to a more tense and uncertain one. You see the world through August's eyes as he experiences it for the first time, which really draws you in.
Grammar: The grammar and punctuation are consistently well done in the excerpts, without any issues that pull you out of the story.
Characters: The characters here are very well-written. August is a typical main character who you want to root for. He's naive but resourceful and his view of arcane as a tool makes him really stand out. Seven is also a great character. The fact that she's an automaton brings a unique angle, and her logic contrasts with August's naiveté. You are immediately curious about her past and her motivations. Orlan is an interesting character as we - ArthicernRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Endurance Mage is a story about an orphan hermit mage named August whose only experience with the world is the forest around his shack and the teacher who abandoned him. Something that changes when a friend of his teacher invites him to climb the tower.
This story contains the classic games and challenges style of Shonen stories, with August slowly learning more about magic as he competes against the games and fights within the tower to climb higher. Which while interesting and something that many popular stories do, didn't quite capture my interest in the long run. The frequent games while interesting in some ways making the entire thing a little too formulaic for me.
By contrast the story's main characters however did catch my interest such as the construct Seven who everyone -including herself- insists is not a person even as August slowly helps her learn to be human. A process that functions as an interesting mirror into August's own development after so much social isolation.
All in all, while this story wasn't quite to my tastes if you are a fan of stories such as Hunter x Hunter or Tower of God then I'm sure you'll enjoy this story as well.
