🥔 potato of joy for you - chuzpahRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story got me hooked from the first chapter. Pizza Do does an excellent job of immersing the readers into his dystopian world. This unique story contains cyberpunk, military sci-fi, and LitRPG stats. Even the items found in Dan's world have stats. I found myself creating a spreadsheet to keep track of everything. I especially like how Dan adapts, gets out of his comfort zone and does what it takes to accomplish the mission.
If you're not used to LitRPG, don't worry. The stats are an integral part of the story. The world is described well, and I can see his apartment and his walks with Kate. The characters are believable, and I thought about the story while waiting for new chapters. The hacking scenes could have been more involved. In one scene, Dan's HUD informs him that a vehicle is unlocked, and he gets a "hacking complete" system message. A missed opportunity to not include more details or have Dan be more actively involved in the hack.
Prepare to be surprised! This fast-paced, engaging sci-fi LitRPG is a rollercoaster ride of unexpected plot twists. It's a prime example of the genre at its best and is definitely a book worth checking out. Trust me, you won't regret it. - WorldEater12Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5After reading a lot of He Who Fights with Monsters, I tried branching out to find more LitRPGs. I soon discovered there's a whole other world out there full of tons of variations and interpretations within the genre.
I randomly found this story from mindlessly scrolling through this site and was pleasantly surprised. This story is a lot more dystopian and cyberpunk-ish compared to HWFWM and the transition between the MC living in his regular life to being thrown into a new world of stats, levels, and unlocking new gear felt like a fresh take on the genre.
After reading the first 20 chapters in an afternoon, I can confidently say that I'm hooked and will be eagerly waiting for more and more chapters. Happy to see Pizza Do announcing a book 2 and beyond! - Lan HuynhRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0A super exciting new fiction from a new author.
Dan Orion is a unique protagonist in the genre. While other MCs live a boring menial life before being sucked into the system, Dan over here is living in a dump of a city where he’s dealing with gangsters harassing him. He has a much more harsh backstory compared to most MCs in the LitRPG space.
Will be following this to see how the story progresses! - BoredOwlRoyal Road★ 0.5The writing quality isn't bad along with everything else with the exception of the characterisation, this is by far the most one dimensional character I've ever seen.
Every single chapter there's at least one or two references to him growing up in a tough place, no hobbies, no skills other than the vague street fighting experience.
Ignoring the cardinal writing sin of repeating the same thing over and over and over and over again, the only discussions had are about either where he grew up with no context (with the same lines almost verbatim), or boring attempts at humour during combat arcs or training.
And that's this entire story summed up, completely predictable and boring in character interactions because it's practically copy and pasted. You don't even need to give your characters a full backstory, just add something other than I grew up in a bad place at the bare minimum.
